Maybe he is talking about the keyboard that would be a little spacious or cramped with iOS 11. The on screen keyboard !

I havent had an ipad since i got rid of both of my ipad pros. To return, I would need a higher screen resolution and maybe a higher PPI than 264. I would also need at least mouse support or 3D touch; one or the other can help the so-called "pro" experience and a native file manager. I am willing to ignore the PPI if it doesn't increase but the rest will be make or break in terms of purchasing. Also, Apple really needs to decrease the size of the Apple pencil. I believe its too large and doesnt quite have that real pen feeling.

Sounds like your needs aren't that of a tablet to begin with.

Of course it will. A 10.5" iPad Pro would be a replacement for the 9.7" iPad Pro, not a replacement for the 9.7" iPad.

Shouldn't be difficult to see what they're doing:

12.9" iPad Pro
10.5" iPad Pro
9.7" iPad
7.9" iPad (this is the biggest unknown I'd say)
I'm so glad that people are finally understanding this, you seem to understand it perfectly. I couldn't stand the 'why is Apple complicating the lineup' complaints when the first rumors of the 10.5" emerged. It was clear then that it would be based on the 7.9" display height and would replace the 9.7" Pro.

its 99% we see macbook pro 15" and ipad pro 12.9" at WWDC...the delivers is from 6June. And since the 12.9" is updated we can now be sure that the 10.5" is here. So we get at least 3 hardware updates at WWDC
Of course the 10.5" will be present, and they have no reason not to also update the 13" MBP with the 15". The 10.5" was set for a release in the first half of the year, originally being March - the 12.9" release is actually based on the 10.5" not the other way around. But yeah, it looks to be an exciting event for hardware. Personally the Siri Speaker is at the bottom of my excitement list along with watchOS 4.

You are right. They can do that. Although, I wouldn't understand the rationale. With the iPhone, is the bigger that gets the higher specs. This way (refreshed 12.9, new 10.5) it's the smaller one to be better. I know it happened with the 9.7 Pro, but I think it was just because it was rolled out later. In the eventuality of one event, I would expect the 12.9 at least to get 3D touch as well.

I am with you with the disappearance of the physical home button. A localised haptic engine could work easily. I am prone to think that the 3.5mm will disappear as well to achieve water resistance.
Yeah the only spec differences may be the clock speed of the processor as well as the better/louder speakers on the 12.9".
By disappearance of the physical home button, do you mean a move to a taptic home button or a removal altogether? Based on my information, I believe it will retain a home button and I am truly hoping it's a taptic one because it allows for customisation, better water-proofing, but more importantly I don't think it would come alone without 3D touch. The thickness increase could be partly due to 3D Touch - I hope that is the case as I would like to see it on an iPad. The headphone jack will stay this year.

You'll get the ppi increase. Like you, i'm hoping for 3D touch, mouse support, and a native file manager.
I agree that they should decrease the size of the pencil, and make it attach to the iPad as well as inductively charge from the iPad. But as for comparisons, there's a reason they didn't call it an 'Apple Pen'. People are comparing it to the size of a pen when they should be comparing it to pencils - where Apple clearly got their inspiration from.

Curious why you mention this - didn't the 6s get thicker than the 6 because of the addition of 3D Touch?

Though while I love 3D Touch on the iPhone, I have a hard time picturing using it on a larger screen that isn't always being supported directly behind like an iphone is.

It sure seems like 3D touch would be useless in many vertical use cases like when connected to the Smart Keyboard.

Yeah, although checking it I realise that the change was only .2mm, and the iPad 10.5" is .3mm thicker than the 9.7" so it's possible - i'll correct this on my post.

I can see it working because it is still sturdy when holding it with 1 hand, maybe setting the pressure sensitivity lower would make it easier. Although when using a smart cover stand it would just fall back regardless of the sensitivity.

It is very much a 'pro' feature. I think a lot of people didn't like the added complexity on an iPhone, but users seem to be begging for more functionality with iPad Pro. It could be useful for the keyboard trackpad, drag and drop, positioning a PiP window anywhere on the screen, as well as generally speeding up actions, not to mention game enhancements so I really hope we do see it.

I think that is a high possibility that Apple is going to release 2 new IPad Pro models at WWDC:IPad Pro 2 10.5 inch , IPad Pro 2 12.9 inch

Ipad Line up :
Ipad 2017
IPad Pro 2 10.5
IPad Pro 2 12.9
IPad Pro 1 12.9
Maybe an new IPad Mini ???

IPad Mini 4 and IPad Pro 9.7 will be removed from the iPad line up. 12.9 iPad Pro Will remain as the 12.9 Low cost model. IPad 2017 the low cost 9.7

I don't think (well I truly hope) that they don't go back to numbering again. I think the iPad (2017) release in March was a pretty good sign that they're going to an iPad + iPad Pro lineup.

But do agree that we'll likely see new Pro 10.5 and 12.9.

Pre-ordering question: I'm thinking about going with B&H if I like what the iPP 2 12.9" comes out to be since I live in Cali, are there any downsides to that (I guess in terms of how long it will take to get the order, etc.)?

1.5 year old . Not 2

IPad Pro 12.9 will be two years old in September.
That must have new tech attitude is just not as relevant other than bragging rights any more for most applications. Especially a tablet where a little thinner, a little faster, slightly better screen and bold new colors are the new tech.

Of course, I don't know why people are considering the possibility that there won't be a new 12.9". There will be. As for the mini, I don't expect it to be removed from the lineup so quickly, if at all. Despite reported sales, Apple could still update it with spec bumps or even implement other features. I am really hoping they do.
