I'm not going to judge something without seeing it, but with all the rumors and with the iOS 8 presentation I'm afraid we are not going to have a revolution here.

This portion of your post just completely confuses me.....

What more are you looking for from them? They will finally enter the larger display market, iOS 8 is bringing a whole slew of new, great features - many of which will address some of the most widely cited concerns on these forums.....

I'm just somewhat at a loss for what people are expecting. What more is there to do? And more specifically - what is Android and WP doing that iOS isn't? I use all three....I don't see it.

That sums up how I feel when I read the criticism here. People just don't know what they want. I haven't been blown away by anything Samsung, Sony, HTC etc have produced in the last 2 years yet Apple are expected to produce something revolutionary? I think people place high expectations before launch just so it justifies having a dig when it hasn't lived up to outlandish expectations.

If Apple isn't doing anything exciting for people, then vote with your wallets and buy what does, what difference should it make to any body else? I expect a larger iPhone, the great features Apple have adopted for iOS 8. My only demand is better quality finishes to the device itself and no easy scratches.

Completely agree. Not sure why announcements have to be made as if leaving the iPhone is some huge deal.

iOS 8 ticks off 2 of my 3 issues with iOS - and I have the sneaking suspicion the third will be taken care of as well, though we don't full know how iCloud Drive will be integrated.

Couple that with a 4.7" display option, and all my needs have been met. Not sure what else Apple could do at this point save coming up with something no one has ever thought about before.

And those types of things only happen once in a blue moon.....the iWatch will likely be that something (hopefully not done similarly to what we've seen thus far.....).

Great points....I think people expect great things from Apple. I think it comes from past products. Me personally......I am excited to see what the IP6 has to offer. It will be a day one purchase for me.

Its a lack of perspective from excitement junkies who want a revolution every 5 mins. They want someone to walk on Apple's stage, say 'one more thing' and remove a black cloth to cure their boredom.

Guess what? if a revolution happened every 5 mins it would no longer be a revolution but rather its mere iteration and evolution.

The smartphone market has peaked. Let me repeat that again; The. Smartphone. Market. Has. Peaked.

The sooner people realise this and embrace it the better off they'll be.

No one is 'innovating' its just more of the same. Bigger screen, bigger battery, bigger CPU and bigger RAM. Because the market has played out and the next fight is wearables, home and keeping existing users locked in.

I for one i'm looking forward to Yosemite, iOS 8 and iPhone 6 because this year there have actually been significant changes to the status quo.

The rest of you feel free to go to the other platforms for your fix. I hear the G3 has a QHD display. Now THAT is innovation.

Not everyone knows me, for sure, but I'm a quite active forum member.
And surely I can define myself like a true passion at Apple user.
My first Apple experience are dated 1989, with Macintosh. The complete switch from windows environment dated 2005 when I purchased the iMac Intel powered , followed a few months after by a white MacBook 13". Never had regrets. Never look back.
Quite naturally I bought my first iPhone in 2008, the iPhone 3G (the original iPhone wasn't available in Europe), and since then I owned every iPhone's iteration, including my actual iPhone 5S.
Due to my job I need to have with me a second phone, so I basically tried every other interesting products (I'm a really tech enthusiast), but my primary phone was and is the iPhone. I also have an iPad, actually every single version except for the iPad 3 (when I decided to switch from my previous iPad 2, Apple released the 4). And a MacBook Pro 15". And a Mini. And a MacBook Air 11" (for my wife).
My home is permeated with a strong Apple ecosystem.
Well, for the first time in my recent life, I'm not sure my next flagship will be the iPhone 6.
Why ? I can't give you a direct answer. Am I satisfied by my iPhone 5S ? Yes .... and no.
It's a premium product. It's well designed, well manufactured, it has a top notch technology inside (I truly love how Apple caught all other vendors unprepared with the A7) ..... but it is somewhat "half baked".
The display is too small. Don't get me wrong, I need a compact primary phone (my secondary is a phablet), but this one is too small by any means. The missed the point after iPhone 5. That was the moment to make a change.
And this is related to iOS 7.
It was a new iOS, an innovation compared to every previous iteration, but is was not really innovative .... I don't know how to explain it. It was "more of the same" , just presented in a slightly different form.
Now we are waiting for the iPhone 6. We know it will sports a bigger display. We know there will be a phablet version.
But it will be "more of the same", nevertheless.
I'm not going to judge something without seeing it, but with all the rumors and with the iOS 8 presentation I'm afraid we are not going to have a revolution here.
I'm using Android and windows Phone 8.1 on a daily base (Nexus 7 and Lumia 1520), and while they have several defects (especially Android), they both are satisfying me more than iOS. WP 8.1 in my opinion is absolutely the best os out there (I'm speaking about the os, not the App Store ).
Now I'm debated, and I don't know what to do.
There are strong points in favor of iOS and iPhone (think about the App Store, by far better than any regardless what Android supporters are claiming), and the ecosystem I'm used to. But I'm not going to spend 730€ or more for the iPhone 6 if it won't satisfy my expectations.

How many of you share my feeling ?
What do you think about this ?

You are probably just bored.

I too started my "technological" life with Apple. The apple iic to be exact. Maybe not the first piece of technology I started with, as I had a ti-99, an Atari console, played with the various commodore computers..etc. But Apple was the first one to grab me. My "straying" came much earlier than now as mid mac cycle I switched to PC. Sure enough, after a few years I came back, and I now feel I'm here to stay. Why? as you, I'm not sure. but I know that there isn't anything out there that is a "must have" that I don't get from Apple and their eco-system. I don't hate android, I don't bash windows, they are fine and I'm sure they are a better for some, But I've yet to be truly let down by Apple, and I don't feel like an outsider looking in on technology so that's why I stay.

But if you are bored, or just curious. Go ahead and try it. Nothing at all wrong with that, Apple will always welcome you back if you choose to return. They've welcomed me back and I'm happy.

i feel the same as well and i switch to Sony. but one thing i did notice that Android updates are too frequent and there are plenty of apps but not foolproof. it ends up crashing and being rather unstable. initially i thought it was just me but ive heard from several Android users that that happens.

im planning on making the switch back to iphone once the 6 launch just for that problem. gives me a piece of mind

To be fair though, isn't it Tim Cook and Phil Schiller who said this year's lineup is going to be the best ever and most exciting new products, or something to that affect?

I agree with most of what you've said, but no one hypes Apple more than Apple.

Yeah pretty much. That's my point, I guess.

Btw, correction: It was eddy cue who said that this year would be the best product line up he's seen in 25 years.
That's quite a saying. How can people not get hyped up from rhetoric like that. Apple's renowned for this sort of rhetoric.

But again like I said I do agree with many points in the op I quoted.

Having had a lot of smartphones iPhones and stock android, its difficult to choose. I think Apple's good. The competition just caught up. Its all good either way/platform. BUT. The thing with phones is the cost vs durability. Then iPhone 5 series imo is flawed in design compared to other OEMS. Its too flimsy. At least with a nexus yr only out a couple hundred vs 6-7 hundred. Id say the apple prestige has woren off on me and a lot of other fans after the 4 series.

Im the same. Have 2 MacBooks, 2 iPads, iPhone 5, Apple TV and have owned other models of each over the years but I lost faith in the iPhone some time ago.

There isn't any denying that the iPhone is by far the most stable phone and this is because its so heavily controlled by Apple.

But I became both tired of the smaller size but more so, I got tired of all the things my iPhone could not do without jawbreaking, that i could do on android easily. ( But it does affect stability, naturally, to do so)

One example. I want to block annoying numbers calling me offering me free trips and other ones i don't want.

The best phone blocker I have seen so far was made for the iPhone called iBlacklist but you had to jailbreak it to use it, as Apple at that time would not let you block anyone.
You could set it in such a way that when a certain number was programmed, any time they called you, the line was always busy. But they could not be put through to your answering service. Why would I want a blocked caller to leave a message so I then have to spend time going in and deleting it?
It would be easier to answer the phone and hang up on them.

Enter Android and I can block whoever i wish.

Apple FINALLY comes with the ability to block phone calls BUT...LOL not as I have described above.
Any blocked caller rings your phone once and then automatically goes though to the answering service?

/sighs

So yes, Android. There are so many things you can do to your phone just as that i have never felt the need to mod it as one jailbreaks an iPhone. Its perfect as is and the Note puts the iPhone to shame, in my opinion.

Yes they might have initially copied Apple but now a days, I find Apple somewhat lacking. Is it because no one has what Steve Jobs had?
I don't know but suffice it to say the iPhone 6 leaves me cold and I am not one waiting for it to come out.
Now the Samsung Note 4 and you have peaked my interest :p

Not true on Apple blocked calls feature.

I have the iPhone with the blocked feature so not sure what you are suggesting isn't true?

You do not have the number of choices in how to block a call as one does in iBlacklist in a jailbroken iPhone.
They don't exist in the apple phone so I haven't any idea how you could say its not true??!!

----------

iPhones you can't beat for people that aren't very proficient with technical hardware. Its a great newbie phone I find.

My husband can't run a computer if his life depended on it and can't use my Samsung Note 3 as it is too complicated for him but he loves his iPhone and his iPad and thats all he needs.

It works, for him and he hasn't any surprises.............he loves it.

Me?
It bored me a few versions ago.

Your phone does not ring once and it blocks messages. I would say it's similar to Android but I rarely use my Android device anymore.

I remember Jon4Lakers seemed like a longtime iPhone user. His first unboxing vid was with the original iPhone. Now Rettinger is using OnePlus One has his daily driver. He started using Android probably around the same time I started using it around 2012, Jelly Bean/Project Buttah era. There was a time Android was an ugly duckling and everyone searched for an iPhone-killer. Nowadays, iPhone 5s isn't even Top 5 in anything except camera. No longer near the top in battery life, screen display, ppi, sound quality, etc. And iOS is still stale and restrictive even after iOS7!

Apple had already lost me a couple years ago. New things that iPhone 6/iOS8 will offer is generally nothing new to Android users. But in fairness with all these Chinese companies like Xiaomi and OnePlus offering far cheaper alternatives and are just as great, I'm starting to question if it even worth it to upgrade with another Android device. At least with iPhones and Sammy GNotes, they have higher resell value. Signing up for contracts seems pointless to me now with $300 flagships that are just as great. Why spend more unless you like throwing away money or love getting stuck on a 2-year contract. Only iPhones and GNotes are worth getting just you can sell it off to get a better and more practical Android device.

With near 85% global marketshare, it is generally an Android world we live in. Before, it was iPhone vs everything else. It was the gold standard. It had a target on its back. Now many Android OEM's are too busy trying to top each other. The big four - Samsung, HTC, LG, & Sony. Throw in Motorola and the many Chinese brands out there. Hardware/software has gotten much better. Crowded field. To me, Apple is only king to the 2nd most popular mobile OS out there. With OnePlus One vs Xiaomi Mi 4 vs Samsung Galaxy Note 4 vs Samsung Galaxy S5 vs Sony Xperia Z2 vs HTC One (M8) vs Motorola Moto X+1 vs Nexus X vs so on and so on, Apple iPhone 5s is just another face in the crowd.

It was when reviewers and the media STOPPED comparing any Android device vs iPhone is when Apple started to stumble. It was then that iPhones were no longer used as the measuring stick.

im not sure...

i think the search for the iphone killer still isnt over. samsung is at the forefront of it with the help of tizen and alpha-class phones...

meanwhile, the iphones are fixing their only minus, small screens

2015 will be interesting, especially for the geeks comparing 2nd gen 64bit a8 vs snapdragon 805. we'll see if apple is still the king of miniaturisation and what they will do with the larger phone

I wouldn't say that the screen size is the only downside of the iphone. The lack of functionality is a big issue, for me at least.
