I second this and I admit I was skeptical at first only because there have been many such assertions (not only regarding Apple or tech in general) without proof - but I was quickly disabused of this position.
 
Your gaming pc is meant to be plugged in 24x7 with a 1200 watt or higher quality power supply with all components running on high performance without overheating in a properly designed case with a powerful graphics card consuming a few hundred watts of power.

Quite different from a small electronic device powered by lithium ion battery where every minute of uptime is critical, even if it means performance reductions.

And as a side note, Windows 10 causes it powerful 2 year old laptop a noticeable drop in performance.

I am simply comparing flagship to flagship here. The highest performance PC is able to easily retain its performance for 5 years if not more at $2000 despite being used 24x7 and with no degradation of components. In case of an iPhone X which is half as powerful and costs $1200 the phone will be throttled in 1 year. Why are differing standards being used here?

PSU also loses its charge the more you use it so by this logic after 10 years the PC should be a throttles mess which doesn't happen. Heck it doesn't happen on my Nexus 5 from 2013.


I don't know about your Windows 10 laptop but my XPS 13 was Dell's highest performing ultra book with a high resolution screen from 2015 and it launched with Windows 8 and till now zero performance issues even on power saver mode. In fact it's become faster. Windows 10 integrated hibernate into boot even more efficiently than before and is even lighter on resources as it was designed with tablets in mind. Probably if you are using a mid range laptop it uses weaker components which is expected.

A more succinct and probably better summary of this thread, in particular at this point and really for a good while now would be this: why is this thread still going in the same repetitive circles?

Until and unless Apple brings that switch to iOS this will continue to go on.

I want my iPhone processor to be at max speed all the time. I don't care about battery life as long as it lasts 1 full day. My X lasts well into the next day

The analogy doesn’t make any sense to ME based on my reasons noted.

As far as windows 10 that is my anecdotal experience....laptop is slower for indeterminate reasons.

I also dont know what lasting all day means in your context. My 6s with a new battery under iOS 11.2.5 lasts almost a day and a half. Does that mean 36 hours of sot? No, it means for my usage patterns I can go one day from 8am to 12pm the next day before charging.

This issues will continue to go on even next year, when current iPhone 7 users will start experiencing throttling, or their phones turning off at 20%. Probably even some iPhone 8 users. This issues will not go away untill apple stops using cheap batteries.

Well, it can't really be a single user if people keep on responding to essentially the same things with essentially the same things over and over.

I use my money to hold a company accountable. Yes money, as in I won't pay for X because I think A company messed up.

+1, this ^ exactly. My 7 is in a drawer before the battery turns to crap until sold. In the grand scheme of things the mere pitance I have forked over to Apple over the years is the last they get. Taking me and my wallet elsewhere. Android, while certain people disparage that OS, they have maybe not tried it lately. Regarding phone sales Android sells more than Apple anyway so all those folks are enjoying it no matter what a certain poster has to say about it. I like all OS's and a fan of none more than the other. Use what you like. Regarding the lawsuits I don't think they are going to get much traction either. When my 6 year old Macbook conks out I won't be replacing it with another Apple procuct either. They're are way to many other good options that are much less expensive. Freedom is sweet!

I do not think withholding your money is the only way to do it. It is the most effective but can be the most damaging to a company as you could send them out of business (generally not specifically to Apple).

1. Voice your concerns to the company.
2. Share your concerns with current and potential customers.
3. If applicable restitution.
4. Exercise your consumer freedom to purchase elsewhere.

Lawsuits do more immediate good for the lawyers than the consumers but it does affect the company's bottom line and it also raises awareness so I support class action lawsuits if necessary.

Sure, if I’ve been aggrieved I certainly would do 1-4 and 5 sue.

But I personally haven’t been aggrieved even though I’m in the target population. But it does seem Apple does listen.

Let them take a moment to thank Apple for their humility and generosity while they waltz into an Apple Store and get the service done and enjoy their old iPhone's for another year.

Perhaps it's because every week Apple comes out with a new concession, so perhaps by stoking the fire for another few days the iPhone 6 Craigslist crowd will get a free iPhone X and a trip to Jamaica thrown in for good measure. They have their victory, you think they could just take their lap and let it go.

This is what happens when a company doesn't stick to the policies they've established and go off the reservation. It's now a beggar's banquet, Apple's worst customers asking for a handout and it's never going to be enough, they keep coming back for more. And as one of Apple's best customers, I'm now getting annoyed. Where's my handout? Where's my $50 freebie that by their policies it states I am not entitled to? Do I have to rally the millions of others who just spent $5,000 at an Apple store to upgrade their families to iPhone X's and wireless chargers and leather cases so we get some sort of financial aid too? The bread line should go both ways.

I'm not getting suckered back into an argument. I will just say, I for one bought an X prior to this information after trading in my 7+ because of the annoying lagging (with a 1 year old phone). This cost me $900+ after the trade in, I kept my 6+ which I use as a GPS on my motorcycle, that I have shown to be throttled in this thread. I had the 6+ battery replaced. How has Apple resolved my issue? Great, they will prevent this from happening, but how about give me my money back and give me my 7+ back... How many other people did this happen to?

And was throttling introduced because of unexpected shut downs with 6 and 6s? But throttling is due to degraded batteries in 6 and 6s meaning my then brand new iPhone 6s Plus already have degraded battery? From what I remember people were complaining of shut downs within a year of it’s release, we’re they not??

Apple tried to extend the life of old iPhone batteries. In the process some got upset because their phones were slowed. The solution is a fresh battery. Apple acquiesced and made it cheap and easy to get.

Doesn't get any simpler than that. For some reason, despite this great victory, people aren't satisfied. This isn't spin or extremism. If the people complaining simply walk into an Apple Store or any number of mall kiosks matching the $29 price, the issue is resolved.

All batteries degrade. Apple's definition of a degraded battery used to be a battery with 50% of its original capacity by the end of the warranty period (1 year standard, 2 years Apple Care). They changed the threshold over a year ago to be 80% of its original capacity putting more of a responsibility on Apple than it used to take.

The reason I think this is happening? I think Apple was trying to be too good to its customers. They kept reducing size and weight and increasing battery life. They put in faster processors to improve performance. Gotta give the people what they want. But the mistake? They allow hardware that's 3 generations old to run the latest iOS with the latest features. So someone with an iPhone 6 from September 2014 here in January 2018 using its original battery is a recipe for disaster.

iPhone 6 shipped with and was optimized for iOS 8. To think it's going to be some speed demon with all day battery life on iOS 11 is a lofty, misguided goal on Apple's part and sets a terrible expectation for it's entitled owners who apparently don't subscribe to the laws of physics and think a mobile handset is as unsophisticated as a clock radio. Apple should have cut them loose, froze iPhone 6 on iOS 9 or 10 and moved on.

One way of doing it that will certianly get you no where. You are one person amoungst millions. No company will change because you chose with your wallet. To say nothing to the fact that we are apple fans that wish for apple to improve. Voicing our concern and complaints is a proper way of making apple sit up and take notice. Which they have.

Certainly lawsuits are a good way of getting your voice heard, if they turn out in your favor.

To be fair, they can change things even without going to trial (let alone being judged in someone's favor).

Throttling is what is preventing your phone from crashing not prolonging your battery life. If your "old" iphone "needs" to run at max speed you can pretty much guarantee it will not make it through the day without rebooting multiple times.

I'm glad they will give the user the option to disable processor management in future iOS iterations.

Now I hope they can fix the muddled mess that is iOS11.
