this just started with the 16 july beta. mail is not coming in; i'll see something like "downloading messages; 9 messages" bottom left of the window, but... nothing comes in. so i quit mail, reopen it, and then my mail comes in (including mail i've previously gotten).

any ideas? feel like there's something i can do about this, but.. don't know what it is 🤔

fwiw: have rebuild mail folders. disabled both accounts (both are POP accounts), turned off wifi. re-enabled everything. rebooted. reindexed...

mail does come in to my iphone. so, the problem is with the app, since both account have the same problem, and this started right afte installing the new beta; so right now, the only way i can get to my mail is to quit & reopen the app.

EDIT: switched wifi networks; unplugged, replugged router. after any of the above things, mail comes in... once. then it's back to being stuck at 'downloading'.

still looking for suggestions...

I'm having the same problem on beta 3
sorry! but good to know, so likely something in the beta, and not just some random moment in the universe.

meanwhile, i keep at it, but nothing helps. i have reported it, and may try torturing apple support monday (they occasionally will help with things, betas notwithstanding).

anyone else?

I actually have to restart my MBA to get Mail to work again. Reported (of course) and hoping for a new beta soon.
quitting the app & re-opening doesn't work? i tried a lot of things, i think changing the 'check for new mail' setting in preferences helped a little...

EDIT: unless this is an issue for a LOT of people, i doubt we'll see a maintenance fix, and we'll have to wait for the next beta cycle 😔

Same problem here with Beta 3. Thought it was because the laptop timed out and logged me out during the update.
Re-installed Beta 3 and that has not resolved the issue. Have to open another desktop to be able to force close Mail.
So Mail is now totally unresponsive.
Reported and see by the report the issue has been reported by less than 10.
Hoping for a quick resolution. Luckily I can get mail on my phone, but prefer the laptop.

hopefully, a quick resolution, but again, my guess is... next beta cycle. either way, have worked out a system; i quit mail, open it periodically to catch up, then quit it again. my plan is to... spend less time in email for now... which may not be a bad thing.. 🤔

I do seem to get new mail, but right now the message at bottom left (about once a second) is flicking between "Checking for mail" and "No new messages".

There is something not quite right in fetching mail. Maybe due to the new downloading of images in the background.

Try turning off the all the new stuff in Preferences > Privacy.

I left feedback under number FB9352606. Maybe if we combine them?

Leave new feedback? Not sure if we can combine them but if we all leave new feedback with the same number? I have "none" at similar lol.
am sure that 'none' is not up-to-date.

those numbers are assigned when we submit a new report, we can't assign them ourselves. we just need everyone with the issue to do a feedback form; am sure apple is, at least, aware of the problem by now. we'll see what happens next.

you have 26gb of data on your yahoo server storage? i have nothing on my email server (everything deletes after i download email, and both my email accounts are POP accounts).

meanwhile, the general problem persists, and periodically, mail will just beachball, and i have to force quit. if that keeps happening, i have to reboot. why are betas so beta-like? 🤔 🤣

I don't think that is actually the emails themselves, that is stored somewhere else, right?

ah, the joys of log files, etc. i went thru this some years ago with crashplan... what fun. r

ight now, am enjoying having a lot of the same email coming in when i re-open the mail app. but will this cure me of running betas? not a chance

have you changed anything? nothing's better here...
macOS 12.0 (21A5284e)

No the only thing I did was got through the activity monitor and force close mail there as suggested.
Microsoft Office is the only program that updated, plus I ran CleanMyMac a few times as normal.
That does do a few tidy up processes though
