I saw a comment over on the subreddit r/applemaps that says that you now can freely search when you add a stop along a route that you already have started. This has also been a highly requested feature.

But you could always do that (and still have to do that) with Siri, right?

Now you can just do it multiple times along the same route as well as before you start the route.

My understanding is that you can do it with the keyboard instead of using Siri now. I’m not on the beta so I can’t confirm though. I edited my original post to make it more clear.

Apple mentioned Chicago was going to be getting the detailed city experience this year.

The million $$$ question (a rhetorical one since none of us have this answer) I have that worries me a bit…will I actually get it? 😂 I missed out on Look Around by less than 20 miles. However, if I remember correctly…the cities that have gotten the detailed city experience so far…the detailed area covered more area than Look Around did, and then Look Around was expanded in that area to match it. This might be an all or nothing for me here! Fingers crossed!

However, if it only covers Chicago’s current Look Around coverage…I will miss out at home but will still be able to get some of the experience on my drive to work since a portion of my drive would be in the coverage area. I guess that would tide me over a bit!

I’ll try it now….got a nice Audi as a rental car.

I’m parked…so it brings up the keyboard to search, but I’m sure it disappears once I start moving making Siri the only option still.

Well… My first beta issue with Maps… It’s basically frozen in position as I’m driving from Orlando to Palm Coast. I’m not sure what’s going on, but it must be beta related, as it simply does not want to move on the map, even though I have a destinations selected… I guess it could be CarPlay related as well… Going to unplug my phone now to see.

Edit - unplugging and plugging back in, seems to have fixed it, although it worked fine with the phone by itself, so it’s definitely a syncing with CarPlay issue or a memory issue or something else beta related

i remember having this issue in a past ios15 beta and it was also in an audi - it was an issue with the beta/gps signal. haven't tried carplay with ios16 yet, but hope I don't get this issue. man is it annoying! lol

Yep…this is a late model rental, so who knows. My Audi at home uses an Android module I installed and worked just fine.

I’m not sure it is GPS though as it seemed to announce the turns as I entered my parent’s neighborhood despite the image being stuck.

We’ll see how it does tomorrow on my drive back to Orlando.

So I’m in Maps and looking around Chicago. For the most part in other cities that have the detailed city experience, buildings that are extra detailed are the ones that get the custom models when the detailed experience comes (barring a few: CN Tower in Toronto is an example I’ve heard). Looking at what stands to get custom models in Chicago…I’m looking forward to seeing how it turns out! There’s quite a few landmarks in Chicago that already have extra detail and therefore likely to get the extra custom model when Chicago is updated. Millennium Park comes to mind as one I think could turn out pretty cool!

Another is Museum Campus. (Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, Adler Planetarium, and Soldier Field). It looks like the whole campus could get those custom models. Each of those locations already have a more detailed model as is. Of course I’m more excited about Wrigley Field 😂

Regardless, Chicago looks like it has a LOT of potential for the ”extra detail” custom models!

One Millennium Park also has a more detailed model at the moment! It’s a condo building, so I don’t know if that will end up getting a custom model as well.

I have this problem with 15 sometimes. Instead of unplugging try moving out of CarPlay to something like the cars Infotainment menu or radio station control and then back to CarPlay.

I should note...it worked perfectly on my drive back to the airport last night...not a single glitch.

Thanks for the screenshots. Do you mind confirming a couple more questions:
1. Can you add anything as the next stop or just from those categories?
2. Can you reorder stops or just remove them?

1. You could always add anything...even before...by either typing in when you are stopped or just asking Siri. The categories are only nice as they default typically along your route.
2. You have the ability to delete or re-order as you wish when you select "edit stops". Works very well!

Good to know. Now if only Apple to let you set whether you have a gas or electric car. It’s silly to have one of those default categories be a gas station ⛽️ when you can’t use one.

Can someone test if France is already updated in iOS 16?
I'm going on holiday to France this summer so it would be nice if the Maps are already updated. Then I will install the Beta on my iPhone. ;)

You will hear that as soon as folks there have access to the pre-release. No one has said that France is in testing yet, but since it was specifically mentioned, there is a chance it could go into testing soon with wide release in September.
