It’s mentioned as an iOS 15 feature, so best case scenario is this Fall for all of the USA.

Only SF, LA and NYC will have the additional POI/elevation/tree details.

But detailed street info like crosswalks, bike lanes, 3D highway interchange is all part of the general release according to the iOS 15 feature page.

And as I stated earlier, I also think they will release LookAround for the rest of the US at the same time.

What I’m wondering is if other updated countries will also get the detailed road info at the same time.

Makes sense...the "detailed streets" info is probably taken from the vehicles/Look Around footage. Not too much manual curating is probably necessary.

Then again...for those on the iOS 15 beta, it's currently limited to just San Francisco at the moment....

I don’t know what happened, but Apple Maps flipped a switch, and suddenly about seven months’ worth of road update requests I had sent in suddenly went live. I’m ecstatic.

Including this one, that I even sent them a drawing of, to correct the “path” that State Route 9A follows.

Among other changes newly implemented:

-The shield for the New York State Thruway now consistently appears along the entirety of that large section of I-87.

-When driving on New York City Interstate highways, the actual “name” of the highway now consistently appears while driving on it, instead of just the Interstate number. It used to always be that way pre-iOS 13, but became very inconsistent on the new maps.

Now that's some dedication. The people of Bronx County thank you!

I do hope MozMan is right. He brought up a good point about the "detailed streets" part NOT saying it's going to be limited to the cities that the elevation data is. Unless that was an unintentional omission, I hope this is how it plays out. Or a switch gets flipped at some point during the beta and then us beta testers can test it out before September. The elevation data is awesome, but I live in a flat area ? Apple could leave that part out of it for our area and you wouldn't really notice the difference between having it or not. I'll be perfectly satisfied with just the detailed streets!

Good point. My local is hills and dunes however due to the slope of the streets it is noticeable.
Hope it comes out as good as we hope.

Since we talked about Look Around, I found this interesting.

I live in an area where Look Around is not yet available (but IS available about 20 miles away). If you open the window in an area with Look Around and then move yourself to an area that doesn't have it, the window will say "Imagery is not available for this area". However, upon opening the Maps app on my Mac, I was able to, for a split second...click on the binoculars button. The Look Around window opens, but with this message instead of the "Imagery is not available" message.

Hmmmm...?

This probably means absolutely nothing, but the difference in wording caught my eye. It was this instead of "not available". Knowing how Apple is about detail, there's a small part of my mind wondering if this is a sign! Also interesting that after being able to recreate it a few times, I can't do it anymore.

It’s coming….I sense it…big update/preview within the next two weeks.
Here's hoping! I wouldn't think much about that screenshot I posted before, if I could still recreate it. But I can't seem to be able to do it anymore.

As Apple Maps keeps progressing, I am hoping someday AM will get backroad search accuracy improved.
Taking some visiting friends to a local bbq place this weekend I really like and I decided to look it up on AM ... whoa.
(I looked it up by address so I could pin it on AM) Interestingly both locations show the same address.
If I search by name I get the correct location. If I search by address I get the wrong one.

I have found that the address mistakes are typically transferred from incorrect local government info when setting up the map data. I submitted a correction...assuming you did as well.

Someone mentioned on Reddit, so sharing here. They’ve fixed the reporting page. Really nice to see everything I’ve submitted…even the number of speed traps, hazards, etc.

There is still the “ratings and photos” tab, but no thumbs up/down icons on POI’s…just Yelp still here in the USA.

Did you try a POI you‘ve been to (and possibly used Apple Pay at)? AFAIK it only shows up if the device detected you at the place to prevent fake reviews (e.g. verify you‘ve been there).
Then again, this seems to be one of the worst A/B tests Apple has ever conducted.

Tried them all...only get Yelp.

EDIT: Folks in other countries that have the review/photo option have said they are able to review places they have not been to.

Stupid meetings...I want to go for a drive so I can see if CarPlay has been adjusted. Not seeing 3D buildings while routing has started to really get under my skin.

New in beta 3. Commercial areas in night mode show up as a much more pleasant purple color. It used to be a bright orange that looked out of place (in my opinion).

Just noticed that! I like this change.

Also, a while back in the iOS 14 Maps Thread, I talked about how I reported bike paths on the map. (Both long-existing ones that aren't shown on the map...as well as ones that are brand new). Never heard back on those reports and do not see them added. However, while browsing through the reporting options in iOS 15, you have the "Add to Maps" option. In there, is a dedicated field to add "Bike or Walking Path". When doing so, for the field to add a photo, it says to add a photo of the path sign to help them review the report. Therein may lie an issue. I could go around town and take pictures of the paths themselves to include in the report...but none of them have any actual signs on the path stating that it's a bike or walking path. The only way around this that I can think of is the my town's website has an interactive map showing you all of the bike and walking paths. Wondering if including a photo of that will suffice. Will have to give that a try, because we have quite an extensive network of paths in my town and while some are displayed on the map...most aren't.
