I just messed around a bit with the pathetic POI data from the german Maps... which is borderline insane in terms of low quality in smaller cities or villages.

I actually spent 2h going through the village my girlfriend comes from, adding 30+ POI points (mostly business / restaurants) and also upgrading her dads car dealership business to also reflect stuff like car washing and gas station being included. I'll check how long it takes for them to add all the missing POI data... or if they bother at all, since all the POI nodes are more or less Yelp/Tripadvisor/Booking.com/Foursquare nodes and there is next to no custom Apple node I can make out. I think I reported my workplace being wrongly placed on the map approximately 20 times already over the last 3 years but the marker is still at a completely unrelated place... pretty sad.

Was also suprised to see, that only the iOS 15 POI reporter allows you to specify fractured opening hours (e.g. for restaurants it's something like 8 to 11am and 2 to 6 pm). iOS 14 / macOS 11 and below have an absolute X to Y selector. The iOS reporter seems to lack info fields like "placed in" or "includes place" linking mechanisms though.

Help needed!

Did Apple change the way pin drop labels in are edited? I like to drop pins on my property to label things like creek crossings, I noticed today in beta 3 that there is no way to edit the label it simply shows our address. I can name it on my custom guide maps but it does not change the label on the map. Any idea what the deal is?!?!?

Just tried it...you are correct.

I dropped a pin in the middle of a field so I could name it "Buried Treasure"....just comes up as the zip code for that spot.

Sending feedback about it now.

EDIT: I take that back…it DOES work. Seems like you just need to wait a few minutes for it to synch. I went in to take a screenshot and the original “zip code” designation was gone…just a pin showing.

Closed Maps and started again…went into my guides to pick it (named properly there) and selected it.

EDIT 2 : And then I went back in and couldn't find it in my Guide but the pin was still there (not marked)...but I think it is just a synching thing.

Got another „we fixed xyz“ notification for my workplace market (company marker) saying they adjusted the position to the one I reported but it‘s still at the wrong place…

Why do I even bother.

It typically takes until the next update before you see it.

Do we have any videos yet of what navigation looks like when driving through the new maps of San Francisco?

You can see a quick snippet in the first post from WWDC.

We don’t seem to have anyone on this thread though that lives there. And I REALLY can’t believe there aren’t any/more videos online.

Yeah, it's so bizarre. Not a single Apple fan who uses Apple Maps who lives in the San Francisco area who also tries out beta software and posts on Apple Maps forums?

Where are yooouuuuu

I scoured the internet…nothing.

Time to book a ticket to the west coast and drive around.

EDIT: Posted a thread on the main iOS 15 page asking for a video...we'll see if anyone responds.

Put in the fix for Cold Srings (great bbq) - quick fix turn around.

I sent in 6 reports on Thursday. Got notified about fixes for 4 of them about an hour ago. Definitely satisfied with the speed, especially considering these particular reports weren’t anything super critical. One of them was simply a report for a spelling error in a name!

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention this. I've discovered that when it comes to navigation directions, Apple Maps apparently reads from two data sources: one for the text that it displays in the directions box on the upper left of the screen, and one for what actually gets spoken aloud by Siri.

I learned this because I have encountered two distinct situations where what Siri announced out loud didn't match what was displayed on screen.

In the first instance, was an exit where the text box had one too many instances of the word "south", and Siri announced it the same way. I sent in a correction, and they corrected the directions box to remove the unneeded 'south', but Siri still announces it as though it was there!

In the other instance, was an exit directing motorists to the Tappan Zee Bridge over the Hudson River. The directions box was updated at some point to show the "new" name of the bridge, being the "Mario M. Cuomo Bridge" (blech), but in the directions, Siri still announces it as the Tappan Zee Bridge.

I've also noticed that Apple Maps seems to implement road updates far faster when reporting them through the Apple Maps website directly, rather than through the app.

Blech is correct. It’s the Tap. And only the Tap.

I have tried to look everywhere, especially YouTube to find a full fletched video on the new maps in San Francisco… and for some reason I can’t find a single video.

MozMan, since you’re on beta, you can check this out for me as well.

It’s not Maps related, but I am mentioning it here because the only reason I noticed is because I launch turn-by-turn on CarPlay by using my calendar events when they pop up on the CarPlay interface. Make sure you’re in light mode, go into the Calendar app, and take a look at the list and times of whatever events you have set. Does it look off to you? I went in to launch turn-by-turn from one of my calendar events and the text and colors are VERY faded. Not sure if it’s an issue with my screen or the beta. I wouldn’t have noticed if I didn’t tap on an event this morning and used the calendar app to launch directions in Maps.

I’ve noticed the faded text as well in CarPlay calendar.
Ok, so feedback report it is!

Now back to the topic of Maps…The 3D buildings are showing up slightly more often for me. Still not like it was in iOS 14 though, unfortunately
