Wow. I drive with audio off in my local area and on when traveling. If it's gone that's going to be annoying.
Don't worry, we've maybe just not been clear. In iOS 15, you now have: full nav audio, nav incidents only, no nav audio. In iOS 14, you had, in addition, the option to adjust the volume of the full nav audio between 3 levels - independent of the music audio volume. Now it's not possible to adjust that using the UI.
Some users have suggested adjusting the car stereo volume while Siri speaks, but this doesn't work on older systems, so now we're left with incredibly quiet nav audio which can't be heard over our music.

Yeah. When they changed to their new "base" look and new night mode and such, I started experiencing far more minor hiccups on CarPlay. Much of these never went away, even through iOS 14.

Has anyone else on CarPlay experienced audio issues when first starting or ending your route? At the very start or end of navigation, Siri's message is getting cut off for the first second or two. For example:

"Head north on Union Street" comes out sounding like "..d north on Union Street."

"Arrived at Home!" comes out sounding like "..ved at Home!"

During the route, everything is fine.
I've experienced this on iOS 13/14. I don't have a CarPlay car, only rentals, which has been a while.

One issue I've been having recently is a message in my heads up display saying "Calculating route", this despite me not requesting anything navigation-wise. This is a BMW on wireless CarPlay. If I then plug in a route and cancel it, the message goes away.

I'm on the iOS public beta. While I think it may be related to something in Maps, not ruling out BMW software as that was also updated relatively recently.

Does your BMW allow for CarPlay navigation info to be displayed on your heads up display on the "second stream" as Apple puts it?

In addition to the main 10.25in screen, the CarPlay maps data also appears on the digital instrument display and in the heads up display. What I'm noticing recently is the middle of the instrument display, which normally shows the current map by default, appears blank and then the heads up display starts to show "Calculating route".

I recently came from a 2017 Audi, which, if recall correctly, would refuse to show map data on the virtual cockpit when using Waze and Google Maps, instead showing some weird compass image.

Here you go...digital dash, not HUD, but I'm guessing the HUD shows the same basic turn info to match the digital dash.

EDIT: and just saw on a Bimmer thread that Apple Maps as shown below was added to the digital dash and HUD as shown below in an update issued by BMW exactly a year ago.

I bought my VW Atlas with the digital dash in hopes that they would include at least SOME of the CarPlay features. At a minimum, I was hoping I could see what song is playing/album artwork in one of the sections instead of "Apple CarPlay"...so lame considering Apple has given manufacturers the option to add this for at least 2 years now.

I'm hoping Genesis adds this soon.

Thanks! You hit the nail on the head: the vehicle development cycle is just about 24 months, so makes sense that we're starting to see this now. The Audi (corporate sibling of VW) MMI system on my '20 Q3 does show the album artwork in the big driver-centered cockpit display. They're getting there...

Well when I punch in a route, yes, it will show next turn(s). But the situation I'm reporting is when I haven't requested directions the HUD will show "Calculating route". The digital dash, which someone else posted a picture of, will be blank. What used to happen, and again I don't know if this is iOS 15 or a recent BMW software update, is that the HUD wouldn't say "Calculating route" and the center of the digital dash would show a map. (There are different options you can do for the center of the digital dash. The one I selected is to show a map, which also indicates what street you're traveling on)

I'll try to get some pictures to illustrate this.

The digital dash for VW is actually really great and configurable...and when you use their map, it takes up the whole dash. But...blech...

Projected holographically onto a view screen. A/R elements will display on the windscreen.

Mark my words!
Actually, there will be no windshield...it will be one giant display that shows you what is going on outside via cameras while also being able to display dash and car info anywhere on the screen. And when you are parked, you can use it to watch movies, TV...anything!!

The coolest thing, no one can see you inside!

And some nudnik will buy one and then complain he can't use Google Maps in it.

I’d use the Feedback app to report a beta bug. It would be cool if you could test it with 14.6 to be sure, but I’m guessing that’s difficult at this point.

When will the detailed roads come to all of America? I know nothing is confirmed but is there any good guess? I’m from Michigan and I sadly see me waiting a couple years before I get to see detailed roads on Apple Maps.

It’s mentioned as an iOS 15 feature, so best case scenario is this Fall for all of the USA.

Only SF, LA and NYC will have the additional POI/elevation/tree details.

But detailed street info like crosswalks, bike lanes, 3D highway interchange is all part of the general release according to the iOS 15 feature page.

And as I stated earlier, I also think they will release LookAround for the rest of the US at the same time.

What I’m wondering is if other updated countries will also get the detailed road info at the same time.

Philadelphia, Washington DC, and San Diego will also have the new fancy 3D maps by the end of the year according to the WWDC video
