Apple Maps Thread - iOS 15

Well, this type of stuff seems to usually server side and its not unusual for them to roll it out to select users for a short time. Guess she's one of the lucky ones!
And having it in the routing pop up is probably an iOS 15 thing I’m guessing, so looks like you guys are all up to date considering you are still on iOS 14.
iOS 14.8 dropped today.
Yesterday while driving home from New Jersey, I experienced something that’s never happened before…I lost the directions box while navigating! It was only showing the exit number and the distance to the exit. I tried cancelling the route, changing the view, leaving and returning to CarPlay…nothing worked. The directions you would normally see in there were still spoken aloud by Siri, however.
It came back on its own around two direction changes later. I wonder if this was a glitch, or if somehow the text side of the directions is missing for that area of the New Jersey Turnpike. I’m leaning towards glitch, because of how jacked up looking the “secondary” directions box looked just before getting onto the Turnpike.

It sounds like not many Asian regions getting map updates except for Japan.
HK even got no schedule for data collection !
Wow…they added more detailed poi’s to Los Angeles.

love the simplistic non cluttered view of the buildings, streets. Moreover the shading and lighting to give structures depth is subtle but very effective!
I hope business tags would have a similar kind of depth to show a business is located behind a poi vs labelled across the pOi.
Every country will get an update at some point, but outside of China a(mainland) nd Japan, Apple’s market share is extremely low, so it is not a priority at this point.
Did a drive from Ventura to Simi Valley last evening. Had this happen for a second time now. Transferring from the 101 S to the 23 N, the display was correct, the directions were correct, however the voice went silent. Stayed that way till just before I arrived at my destination.

That’s a weird one to happen twice…sounds like a data error and not just a glitch/bug. I would report that one.
Really hopeful for a NYC update while I’m here and LookAround and detailed road release for the USA! If not today, later this week or next before the new phones are available.
Yes…I put in my personal request to the Maps team to fix.
Now, how about detailed maps???

I really think it will happen Monday.
The updated iOS15 page on Apple still mentions the street details option (separate from the enhanced cities update). We could even get NYC and London enhanced release on Monday as well, with Philly, DC and SD coming throughout the remainder of the year.
I’m still hoping for a NYC Pre-release by Thursday so I can get some video for my channel, but I’ll be back at least once a month moving forward.
Hoping you're right! If there were any challenges involved in releasing massive coverage areas at once, I'd hope Canada, Spain, and now Italy were enough to work them out!

I was just surprised how Independant CarPlay actually is and requires a delay to introduce the new Maps graphics/details. But yeah, it will be cool to have that all on the screen.

You bring up a good point about the independence. I thought it was tied to the phone, myself! So I wonder what the delay is about! Unless……………we aren’t going to see some massive release of something on Monday, and the “later this year” is going to coincide with that instead…….? Hmmm?

Nah…they were pretty clear during the WWDC about the detail coming out with iOS 15 (like it has with the beta already) and THEN coming to CarPlay a little later.
I’m sure it’s just a layout thing since there are some differences being added. Mirroring the info is one thing, but making it fit on the car screen in a certain way is another.

As for whether or not a large-scale Look Around release is going to happen Monday, I have a feeling one of the two of us is going to be eating crow...and it'll [hopefully] be me. As much as I hope it happens, I will admit I have doubts.
I'm noticing as of today that on iOS 14.8, Apple Maps is running 100% smooth once again on CarPlay. All road labels are back, too.
Perhaps now that the RC is out, with iOS 15 to launch next week, the behind the scenes sorcery has come to an end. For now.
