Just realised I can use Look Around for the actual example!

Intersections like this appear as stop signs in Apple Maps, not as traffic lights (which they primarily are).
But the camera/AI must have decided it should be a stop sign instead
And I have no idea how to report it....

I’m sure this is happening because of the presence of the stop sign on the traffic signal pole. I would simply use the Maps reporting feature and submit the photo along with a short description that the stop sign is not the controlling feature here. Can’t believe they didn’t do this during processing.

I agree...enough reports of this and I would expect them to go back and look at nearly every stop sign.

Interesting. Where I live in the US, we have stop signs at all of our stoplight controlled intersections as well...but they're folded up. The only time the stop signs are ever open and visible is if there is a long duration power outage. Public works goes around town and opens all the stop signs.

So this isn't an issue we saw at intersections, but instead, it picked up on the stop signs we have on bike paths where they meet the road. I sent in a report about one of them (and included a picture showing the stop sign because bike path ones are much smaller...about the size of the ones your picture shows) and it was removed pretty quick. Which was good, because where the sign was showing up on the map...there was not actually a stop for vehicle traffic AT ALL! The sign only applied to the bike path.

Other than stop signs, I've reported stop lights as well (primarily when a new one was put up at an intersection). Those changes, in my experience, have been made VERY quickly.

Interesting. I've never heard of intersections with traffic lights AND stop signs.

Well, with a few exceptions, like right turns with a dedicated turn bay not governed by the traffic light, and the end of the turn bay has a stop sign (or in more cases, a yield).

I had this happen when I was in FL this past Spring, but it was a double stop sign showing up. One was for the road and the other was for the bike path next to it. It's amazing to realize how much Apple has relied on A.I. to process all of this.

So here's a weird issue with Apple Maps...

On my fully updated iPhone 11, when my phone goes into dark mode in the evening, my Apple Maps show up dark, as it should. So do Google Maps. No issues there.

On CarPlay, in dark mode, the top information bar showing the route/lanes/turning directions shows up in black (as it should in dark mode) and the bottom information bar arrival time/travel time/distance shows up in black (as it should in dark mode). But the actual MAP itself is still in "light mode."

Google Maps renders in CarPlay as it should

I've tried this in two different CarPlay settings - my own Coral Vision CarPlay tablet as well as my wife's OEM Toyota Rav4 CarPlay head unit. It displays the same in both, making me think it's something particular to my phone setup or a very weird bug.

My wife's XR renders the dark maps in dark mode as it should, on her phone and in CarPlay.

Any advice welcome.
Updating on my own post...

This is definitely a "my phone" issue as my work gave us the go-ahead to update our work iPhones to iOS15, and my work phone (an XR) correctly shows the night/dark mode version of Apple Maps on CarPlay.

My personal phone is an iPhone 11. Wondering if it's a bug specific to that model of phone or whether it's a bug that's just randomly showing itself on my iPhone and no one else's.

Trying to Google a solution to this is near impossible, as people end up telling you to turn down the brightness on your screen/dash to kick Apple Maps into dark/night mode. But, as noted, I can swap my phone for my work phone in my car with nothing else changed, and my work phone goes into Maps dark mode perfectly on CarPlay.

I really don't want to nuke my iPhone settings and set up my phone again in the hopes that doing so would fix this issue.

But given Edmonton is dark ALL THE TIME NOW in winter, I'm basically using Google Maps in my car because otherwise I have this GIANT WHITE GLOWING RECTANGLE of mapping in my car while driving to and from work in the dark. And yet, Apple Maps on my *phone* goes into dark/night mode exactly as it should when I toggle dark mode off and on. It just won't do it on CarPlay.

Here's hoping! One thing I'm interested to know is how milage differs. Like how many miles of road does Look Around cover in Canada on its own, Italy on its own, Spain on its own, Australia on its own...versus how many miles of road are not yet covered by Look Around in the US.

It wouldn't surprise me if the sheer amount of milage is the factor that's causing the length of time here in the US. Sure, we have a lot of "nowhere" around this country where it's nothing but road, but when you get into more populated area, there's a lot more "stuff" that needs work (especially if they're wanting to release the remainder of the US WITH labels instead of just releasing the imagery with no labels.

EDIT: Here's what I got with a quick Google search for miles of roads...though I'm not confident some of these are accurate. Some seem too low...simply because I would have expected more...
The US: 4.09 million miles. This result specified that it's only the 50 states...none of the territories were factored in.
Canada: 647,700 miles
Italy: 184,000 miles
Spain: 186,411 miles
Australia: 511,388 miles.

Let's say all these numbers are accurate. If that's the case, it's no wonder the US is taking so long! That is a MASSIVE amount of data they have to work through!

I just experienced a CarPlay issue I've never had before. Entered my parked car in a dark garage, went into CarPlay, and the screen was in "dark" mode, as it should be in a dark garage with my headlights on. But when I left the garage into the daylight, CarPlay never switch over to light mode. I went the entire drive home in dark mode. That's never happened to me before. I tried switching my headlights into different modes, but it didn't help.

I reset my car's head unit when I got home, and I'm about to reboot my phone. When I go out later, I'll see if the same thing happens.

Check the settings app on CarPlay. There’s an always dark mode setting for Maps. May have turned itself on…

That’s if you’re in the 15.2 beta, anyway

I checked that too. The visual settings were set to "Automatic", not "Always Dark".

Everything was fine when I went back into the car just now. But I was starting my trip in a light area, but a dark area.

So a second "Release Candidate" for iOS 15.2 was released today, but only for iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro models. (And maybe Max, too? I dunno.) That could explain some odd behaviors I encountered using Apple Maps in CarPlay this afternoon.

I wanted directions home from the McDonald's in Bayside I go to. For some reason today, Maps was *only* offering me a route home via the highway, which is the long way around. Maps usually offers me one highway route, and two via local roads. I activated the highway route, and then ignored it, instead following my preferred route via local roads, which is far more direct. Maps kept changing the route at every intersection to do everything possible to make me turn around and head for that highway. It was really bizarre. I had to go halfway home before Maps finally gave me the direct route I wanted.

Also, on this drive home, the camera angles were a bit different than usual. Zoomed out, but buildings were still visible.

Oh! Justin updated his website again. A new article on the Australia expansion, plus one about Google Maps.

So I *finally* figured out a solution- or at least, a work-around - to this problem.

I went back to my CarPlay settings today under 15.2 RC and realized there is a new toggle to always have maps in dark mode … and it actually switched my Apple Maps to dark mode in CarPlay!

Just a dumb thing I noticed while sitting in the car waiting for my wife in the grocery store.

Set our next destination, Costco, but obviously didn’t hit “GO” yet as not moving yet.

Saw the map “reset” itself like it was checking to make sure the routes suggested were still correct/best option, so I timed the next change.

Exactly 2 minutes.

And the suggested route just changed to one of the other suggestions.

First impressions for CarPlay: Nice, smooth, overall pretty. But I think the zoom levels and label sizes are still in a state of flux.

I noticed that the junction view is at the moment kinda useless. I think there’s a glitch where the camera is moving into the proper position, but the zoomed in details such as lane markings and trees are not appearing for some reason. Check out the below photos, compared with a photo of the same area taken off the phone.

What’s the point of junction view while navigating if you can’t even see the lane details? lol

I keep forgetting you have not been on the betas. I can’t believe that this is the massive CarPlay update we were promised. I hope not….

There are definitely issues with junction view on CarPlay. I think what’s happening is that the camera is moving into position, but the map isn’t zooming in like it’s supposed to. Because the map doesn’t zoom in, the extra details of the lane markings and trees and such don’t appear. I also wish we could adjust the “angle” of the 3D map view when driving without navigating.

As expected from my “landscape” phone tests, you can’t see lane details to begin with with driving on the highway, but 3D buildings are generally always visible now.

The camera seems to sway left and right a lot now, and it’s a bit distracting.

Here are some random photos from recently.
