Is there some trick to getting POIs to display details in place cards, vs only displaying coordinates?
Generally, searching to bring up a place will bring up a populated place card, but tapping on POIs on the map seem to be a lucky dip as to whether they load or not.

Am also seeing some reports actioned a lot sooner than others, and others that have just sat there for... a month now.
Things like road names that are corrected, have been changed within weeks. Speed limits on Motorways (the M5 Motorway displayed as 50 between Henry Lawson Drive and Georges River Bridge, for example) have been corrected a few weeks after reporting)

Traffic lights showing as stop signs seems to be generally fixed across Sydney - I haven't come across many intersections where it displays incorrectly.

It's far more likely to not have 'new' traffic lights (replacing stop signs) that have been installed in the past month in my local area - or just intersections with no lights at all. They've all been reported, no luck so far.

This has all been through the Maps app - my email reports were for the original traffic lights showing as stop signs (corrected), and walking paths being shown through Department of Defence land (not corrected, wasn't showing on TomTom, is used for routing)

I think the surplus stop sign issue was a relatively easy fix programmatically : “if both a stop sign and a red light are shown aspresent at an intersection, remove the stop sign” or something like that. A new red light, on the other hand, is (obviously) not in the system, not having been present when the survey vehicle came through. I’m sure they’ll get these new signals inserted based on your input, but that will take a bit more time, especially just coming off the Christmas holiday break at Apple and the need to verify the presence of the new signals in some way.

First long trip outside of the US coming up in a month so I can do an iOS/Android comparison.

Flying to Edmonton, Alberta and spending the night about 90 minutes NW of there. Next day, I will spend 2 days driving back down into the US through Edmonton, Saskatoon and Regina in Canada and crossing the border in North Dakota....then driving home to Michigan on day 2.

Pretty straightforward and boring trip actually, but will be nice to compare Google Maps on Android and Apple Maps on my iPhone running at the same time.

I think you should find Apple Maps in Canada to be quite excellent as Apple drove the country a few years ago prior to relaunching Maps. I'm very impressed with the accuracy on the whole.

That's not the most exciting drive in the world (particularly the Saskatchewan part), but northern Alberta is beautiful. Be on the watch for deer, moose and the like on the highways.

I LOVE driving, so it should be fun. My only concerned is that the dates are locked in at this point, so hopefully the weather cooperates. Driving through a blizzard or temps below zero is never fun, but I'll deal.

Make sure you're fully up to date on whatever the COVID cross-border travel restrictions are for land crossings back into the US for Canada. They've changed several times in the last couple of months.

Hope its a good trip for you. I'll wave as you pass through Edmonton. :D

I have NEXUS (which includes Global Entry back into the USA) and already submitted my COVID vaccine info to their app...I "think" I'm good for now...will do another check soon just to make sure. Still have more than 4 weeks before my trip.

I spotted an apple car (first for me) driving around the north shore in Sydney on Monday so they must still be collecting/updating data.

It is a constant process. You simply will not see as many or in all areas as one might have seen during the initial collection.

They focus on new roads/neighborhoods (duh), populated areas that change more than other areas and need updating for LookAround, and I’m sure areas that receive an inordinate amount of complaints are reviewed in person as well.

Be nice if they actually shared some of that lookaround data with the rest of us. Most do not live in the large cities.

Yeah...I wish I knew what was going on in the US....but I still think it has something to do with the image collection not being up to their standards since we were the first ones mapped and they had to go back just to get even what is released now. That meant re-mapping the entire USA just to get Look Around images.

It's obviously done at this point, but then they have to do the A.I. check, human check, etc.

I was surprised they didn't release it by the end of 2021, but I really think we are VERY close to a complete LookAround release in the USA along with street details like crosswalks and the like for the whole country. Who knows, at this point, maybe they'll even add elevation and trees as a surprise with additional detailed POI's in cities that do not have them yet?

Since this is a major differentiator between Google and Apple Maps, I'm sure they are pressing hard to get this done. LookAround is a significant improvement over StreetView, so I am anxious to get my hands on it.

In my opinion, if Apple has to release look around entirely in the United States, it will do it with an announcement. Maybe for the WWDC?

It would actually benefit them to NOT do it then as it has nothing to do with development in my opinion. It would benefit them to do it 2-3 months before WWDC to get the attention to the Maps app versus competing with all of the other talk around iOS16. It could also allow them to have time to create specific developer opportunities associated with LookAround or other Maps options.

LookAround isn't really new anymore, so the fact that it would be more widely available doesn't change much from a developer standpoint...again, just my opinion.

Given the limited time to make all the OS announcements, I tend to agree with you. Particularly if a M2 Mac Pro announcement is thrown in as well. However, I could see an announcement during a potential March iPad event. Or maybe (and I am spitballing here...) there could be a major announcement re LookAround in connection with the announcement of Apple's strongly rumored AR/VR googles later this year. LookAround would be an excellent use case for that device.

Damn…I didn’t even think of the AR goggles and LookAround. Good call!

Queens lost all of its concrete apparently…

Hard restart did nothing. Hope it is some sort of sign an update is coming.

I want to see if my eyes are messing with me or not, so I’m going to ask a vague question (vague so you can go into it without an expectation, just to see if anything stands out).

Take a look at Maps. Particularly in dark mode. Does anything look different to you? (I’m on the 15.3 RC, but that may or may not be a factor).

Not that I’m noticing…but I look at it so much, I’m typically horrible at noticing any changes.

It seemed like the colors stood out more to me. Especially water. I was looking around my town and when I came across ponds and rivers…I knew the blue was a deep blue already, but it seemed like EXTRA blue. But it could just be my eyes messing with me ? That’s all I was referring to in the vague question ?

Other than that, my area has definitely been updated recently. More building models have been added to reflect completed construction. I’d say they were around here within maybe the last 2-3 months, because the map as it is now reflects roughly that time frame. The only buildings not on the map are things that have finished since then. Some bike/walking paths have been added (though quite a few are still missing). The standard view map is actually more up to date than the satellite image layer is.

Everything looks the same to me.

However...everyone, head to Vegas, and look at The Strip hotels. On my phone, The Strip hotels are vanishing when you zoom out, despite other 3D buildings (like homes) still being visible for a few more zoom levels.
