I wonder how much longer until they release Maps v2 for germany (and if that also includes their proprietary ratings system). Friends of me have access to the new version, I don‘t (and I‘m the only one who routinely fixes POIs in Apple Maps).

The new Maps data could release this week or next week in Germany

I wonder if the bike paths are a "candyman" situation ? It's something I've mentioned multiple times over the past few months...and just again the other day. Opened Maps this morning...some (but not all) of the missing bike paths in my town are now on the map ?

Now for the real test: Look Around. Look Around. Look Around ?

Don't get me started...I have to think that, while it has nothing to do with WWDC, they will finally get LookAround out for the US. If anything, maybe they DO have some sort of new developer tool they will introduce that makes use of it?

* ETA was WAY off when I started and I arrived nearly 40 minutes earlier…with stops. In my experience, Apple Maps is always way closer to the actual arrival time…has it learned my driving habits?? Yes…I drive fast… ?

Meant to respond to you earlier about this. Sadly, it doesn’t learn your driving habits! I’m the opposite to you and tend to find that on longer journeys Apple maps always underestimates the time it takes. On the motorway especially I tend to drive more conservatively to save fuel (typically 60-65 instead of 70). Plus on busy UK roads it’s difficult to stay averaging fast for long periods of time, in some areas Apple maps always assumes you’ll be doing 70 when variable speeds are in operation, and theres a fairly long stretch (maybe 6 miles?) of the M4 around Newport where the speed limit is 50 but Maps thinks it’s 70.

I was driving to a campsite today but Apple maps wanted to drive me to another place completely. The pin and the address on the map is all correct so not sure how to fix this. It also directs to the right place when I’m here (I.e it says 1 min away). Where would I report this issue?

I have found that problem with “Park” poi’s since the poi itself is in the middle of the actual park (whether 1 acre or 5,000 acres) and the directions to the poi take you to what it considers the entrance or closest road.

Apple needs to do a better job with these by asking which parking lot, entrance, “anything” that gets you to where you want to go.

I’ve fixed some in my area by actually adding the parking lots or lost with specific names. It still reverts sometimes though.

I did wonder if it might be other side of a park, but the final destination is 6 miles (20 minutes) away from the actual pin and nothing to do with the campsite . The pin is on a public road and if I use the post code (EX15 2DT) it works fine. Weird, but it doesn’t help with having confidence about other places

I had that bug about half a year ago in Germany. It somehow got fixed in one week or two and it was a supermarket POI.

New theory (or did I say this before…I can’t even remember).

With the release of cycling directions spreading like wild fire (even for my lame area of the country), does this mean that when LookAround is finally released, will Apple also release the Detailed City experience country wide? Without a large group of detailed POI’s of course.

Cycling obviously includes elevation data and it seems like Apple, with processed LookAround images most likely complete across the USA, simply needs to process elevation and tree data to add to the street markings to release EVERYTHING at once.

Or am I just making excuses for them for being so delayed? Hah!

At this point, I really think that is what happening. There is going to be a HUGE update to the USA all at once and then follow in other released countries shortly thereafter.

A moment of realization that where you live isn't actually as flat as you thought ? Plugged in biking directions from home to work (something I absolutely would NOT do, because I don't have that kind of time...or dedication...and it's also snowing). Those elevation changes are things you don't really notice/think about when driving a car! When you're looking at the route, you can click into it for more detail of course, and then can also click for more details on the elevation graph and I know exactly where that significant drop in elevation is but since I've never had to pedal up or down that hill, I didn't really realize how significant of an elevation change it is!
