New theory (or did I say this before…I can’t even remember).

With the release of cycling directions spreading like wild fire (even for my lame area of the country), does this mean that when LookAround is finally released, will Apple also release the Detailed City experience country wide? Without a large group of detailed POI’s of course.

Cycling obviously includes elevation data and it seems like Apple, with processed LookAround images most likely complete across the USA, simply needs to process elevation and tree data to add to the street markings to release EVERYTHING at once.

Or am I just making excuses for them for being so delayed? Hah!

At this point, I really think that is what happening. There is going to be a HUGE update to the USA all at once and then follow in other released countries shortly thereafter.
Maybe Apple will release look around as cycling?

I think Apple is preparing for the wide release of its own map data in Germany and Singapore. I just saw that they added 3 new Apple
Maps Hyperlocal guides for Singapore. It’s the first time that we see Apple’s own guides for places outside the United States as far as I’m aware. It would tie in nicely with a wide release of the map data there and probably in Germany as well maybe later this week?

A few of my friends had the new maps data here (Germany) for a few weeks but they noticed it‘s gone as of this week. Could indicate that they launch it soon.

I heard that Apple used to release new map data and the city experience on Thursday
Nah not really. According to Justin, the UK was released on a thursday, Canada on a thursday, Spain on a monday, Italy on a friday and Austalia on a thursday. So its likely but not always the case.

One thing I have noticed in my area for bicycle directions, Apple Maps does not always offer the easiest nor best way to take. It also does not always offer the fastest. Sometimes it will offer two options. Other times it offers three.
As some have noted, when cycling to an area park or beach area, the route takes me to an access point and not to a pinned or mapped location on the map itself.

Unlike driving, I am finding bicycle directions need some work.

fyi - bicycle directions via Google Maps is better for my area at this time.

Update: area is Ventura California. Thought I would add that in with all the other country posts.

I only tried one route this morning and it gave both options I would take.

Going to test some others later to see what they say.

It‘s out for me as of this morning (Germany).
Same here. :) But they didnt fix any issue that I reported. (even major ones imo like instead of going left, maps said to go right and make a u-turn) And on this screenshot the shopping mall has no 3D model. I reported that as well, but it didnt get fixed which is really weird.

I found with the Australian map it went back between 12-24 months in some places, like an area which had a roundabout had it removed with a level crossing removal in 2020/2021 then the roundabout was back end of last year. Took them a few months to fix.

I think just wait for now and keep reporting!

Look Around is available in Munich and other cities will follow according to the press release. Augmented Reality Walking Directions are available in Berlin, Frankfurt am Main, Hamburg, Cologne and Munich. No mention of AR Walking Directions in Singapore. However, guides from OddleEat and Chope are coming in the future according to the press release. No mentions of cycling directions being available or coming in the future to Germany or Singapore.

Apple seems to have removed the Singaporean press release from the list in the Newsroom. I got it before it disappeared and it looks like the link is still working. Edit: it seems to be back. Nothing has changed as far as I can tell.

The press release states that speed checks are available (the German press release). I guess Apple is referring to it more broadly and not specifically being available in Germany. Can anyone confirm?

So after driving a bit with carplay, here is what im thinking:

The camera angle sucks. There was a discussion in this thread about the camera angles in the iOS 15 betas I think. And Im pretty sure you guys said, that you pretty much always get the 3D buildings. Thats not my experience. (15.5 B2) While driving I only saw 3D buildings sometimes and mostly while making a turn (Top down view). Now im always zooming in one time to get the 3D buildings to show up, even tho thats kinda low for Autobahn driving.

Other than thats its an amazing improvement and I hope many more regions can be mapped soon.

3D buildings will typically only show up on local roads, unless you're in an area with "City Experience" detail. On highways, it zooms out to a point where buildings will not appear.

But you should always be seeing buildings on local roads. How large is your car's screen?
