To me it is nothing more than flyover with time specific lighting and approximate weather. Has nothing to do with routing.

If I can’t use it while driving, it’s more or less of no use to me. Eye candy. Pretty eye candy but eye candy.

Thanks TimFL1 wouldnt have noticed otherwise :)

Has anybody been able to trigger the AR walking directions in a supported German city? Whatever I do, I cannot get it to kick in. The AR symbol does not show up regardless if I am in the inner city of Cologne or in the suburbs.

I think I got throttled now, went through dozens of POIs to rate and upload pictures throughout the countries I visited over the last few years and now I get an unexpected error.

This is not available in Germany.
No German cities are listed on the iOS and iPadOS Feature Availability page under AR Walking Directions. However, Apple said in the German press release when they released their own map data there that the feature was available in Berlin, Frankfurt am Main, Hamburg, Cologne and Munich.

Do you have an iPhone with A12 Bionic? If yes, I advise you to send a report to this email:maps_support@apple.com

Just saw on Reddit...Cycling Directions now appear to have been expanded to cover everything to the east of the Mississippi River that was not covered in the most recent expansion. Apple could probably cover the rest of what remains of the US in one more release (assuming Alaska and Hawaii come with it. Unless, does Hawaii already have it? Haven't looked yet)!

Is there any way to add a custom destination as a stop when you are in route to another location in Apple Maps? I recently tried to add a stop to drop off a family member at the airport while in route to another destination. When I chose the add a stop option, it gave me some presets like restaurants, gas stations, etc, but no option to put in a custom destination. Had to switch over to Waze to make this happen the way I needed to for this trip.

“Hey Siri, directions to XYZ Airport along my route.”

If it is too far off your original route, it will ask you to end navigation and start a new route to the airport… And then you can just pick up your original route by seeing it as the last selected item in destinations

Bike directions are nice…BUT I WANT LOOKAROUND!

Agreed! Google Street View is in a very weird spot in my area. You can see imagery from 8 months ago and then when you click to move down the street...you're looking at imagery from double-digit YEARS ago! I can look at my house and our completed street on Street View and then with one click, I'm looking at nothing but dirt and construction equipment! It's pretty jarring!

Whatever Apple's oldest imagery is...would still be more accurate than Google's most "recent" imagery in parts of this area...

I'm sick of my own prediction that it is "right around the corner" for the entire USA as I have been wrong on the timing....but...I really do think it is coming...and very soon! And with detailed city features present!

(there I go again...)

I agree with you. We will likely see it with the public release of iOS 16 in late September.

If I recall correctly, much of the Maps work is done by outside contractors. Those workers are less likely to work from home and thus there was probably a delay in getting them back to work polishing Look Around for the entire US. That has to be a massive undertaking, so it is not unexpected that its taking awhile. I’ll also hang on to my speculation that it will be released either as part of RealityOS or as part of something else of a major nature.

I think that connection makes so much sense...especially with the news yesterday that Apple board memebers recently previewed the new AR goggles. Sounds like they may be ready for launch this year still.

The only reason I am not going all in on my speculation is that while I think we will get a preview of RealityOS this year (and maybe the launch of a Developer prototype of some hardware), I think it will be next year before anything is released to the public. But it might make for a nice tease, either at WWDC or the iPhone event in September.

So a few things have been different for me since iOS 15.5 dropped. While navigating on CarPlay, the blue road name bubbles for roads you’re scheduled to turn onto now have a noticeable white border around the bubble. That’s fine.

I’m also noticing that when your blue route line turning onto a new road…it’s a much more…gentle curve now. Am I going crazy?

On a bad note…ever since the update to iOS 15.5, I can no longer force Camera Mode “B” to appear, which was my preferred camera mode. That really sucks. I mean, I certainly want Maps to be consistent, and not need to constantly unplug my phone and plug it back into CarPlay to get a different experience, but I want the default experience to be as good as possible!

I’m still getting tiny POI icons by default, which I can *usually* fix by unplugging and replugging. C’mon, Apple…fix your CarPlay experience!

Random side note…as of iOS 15.5, it looks like the Weather app now has “Report an issue” options, sort of like Apple Maps! Very interesting….

You even report a rainbow. >.>

Lately I have been getting annoyed with Apple Maps.
Advertisements.

Example - went to one of my favorite hole in the wall places (one the map) and this is the difference - AM vs GM
btw - yes, had lunch there today - yumm!!!
