Just some random information for those who care about the Apple „field trip“ next week in Chicago. Apple will hold that event at 17.00 Central European Time. But there will not be a livestream. They will release a video of that event later on though. So I guess this event really and only is about and for teachers and students.
And as I already heard no AP announcement for Germany via a livestream. So via a press release or they just flip the switch, when it is ready.

Well I think we can all agree that sunny was a damn liar. Not a single word of all his prediction came true. Not one.
Let´s wait until April. Not necessarily. Sunny had his sources and in the end they were gone or plain and simple he was a liar as you say.
[doublepost=1521969387][/doublepost]
And that will be whenever basically?
He did not want to go into detail.

I don't care as long as Apple makes options available for real "fans" outside Apple Pay supported countries ;)

My bet is still on Apple Pay Cash as their first foot in the door in all Euro countries. They need a European bank to deal with the backend (like Green Dot in the USA for verification and payments) and just a simple guess of mine would be Wirecard. They have experience with Apple Pay in supported countries, building backends for banks such as N26 or others, run boon. (which has similar functionality sending money P2P with boon. Plus) and could make it available to all users in Europe (especially through PSD2). And yes, the Apple Pay Cash card can be used for P2P payments, but also as a card for payment in store. With that Apple could at least let people get to know Apple Pay before they roll it out with banks directly. I do hope they get their skates on ;)

They did this never before but if your guess is right, do you have a guess for us about a possible launch date?

Don't think, that Apple Pay Cash would be an ideal start for Apple Pay in Germany. Nobody wants to precharge in order to pay his coffee at starbucks or go shopping at Rewe or Ikea. Especially with Apples allergy againts direct debit (ELV), which is still king in these markets, the preferred payment option for most customers.

And even c2c payments are not very attractive as of the low market share for iOS here and in other missing countries.

You do not need to have a balance on the APC card to use it (in contrast to GeldKarte (and Girogo)). Any (exceeding) amount will be deducted seamlessly from a linked card during payment authorization.
[doublepost=1521993172][/doublepost]Deutsche Kreditwirtschaft is holding an Event one week after WWDC on 13.06.2018 and will present girocard digital.

Then Apple would have to accept ELV as a payment option in Germany and Austria.

And thanks for tie information about the event!
[doublepost=1521996035][/doublepost]btw: would be the time span in which the Deutsche Sparkassen- und Giroverband wants to start its payment option on Android. Perfect timing for starting Apple Pay also.

What do you mean by "aren't even ready"? The EU finalized the future rules at the end of 11/2017. And the financial services have to implement them within the next 18 months: until 05/2019.

if i'm correct.

But this would mean, that, if PSD 2 is so important to make it easier to start AP within the EU, we´ve got to wait even longer? Or is PSD2 not so important as sunny told us?

A) Apple Pay does not require PSD2, if both sides are willing to sign and to negotiate the details.
B) PSD2 makes it easier for other companies to get access to specific informations. they get some sort of "right" to use certain interfaces
C) they have time until 05/2019. this does not mean, that they will wait until 05/2019.

A local Sparkasse has just announced that they'll have a "Sparkasse-Payment-Tag" in April.

Companies and shops are invited to participate. Someone from S-Payment (the main Sparkasse organisation dealing with payment tech) is holding a keynote speech as well. Although "payment" sounds fairly generic, nearly all the information on the leaflet is concerning contactless "Sparkassencard und Kreditkarte", but also "mobiles bezahlen". The event promises to show merchants what's possible now and what's upcoming. Also all participants will get special deals on an "ElectronicCash Paket" (whatever that is).

And yes, on the last page of the leaflet someone is just holding a phone against a payment terminal :D It's just a >>generic<< phone though!

I do hope if the big push for contactless mobile in Germany is this year, that the big banks in Germany (and Sparkasse as a whole is defo one of them) does a clean sweep. They need merchants, ticket machines, media coverage and exposure. It's in their own interest if they've been developing this Wallet app for Android.

Honestly, I also still think Apple Pay is on the cards for this year. WWDC is the one to look out for.

Why couldn´t it be April? And I would not bet on WWDC.

I like that the "Genossenschaftsbanken" (Sparkasse, Volksbank etc.) are planning to go for a big release.
I mean, if we would have AP alread it wouldn't really pays off. At the supermarkets it is no big deal to pay contactless but especially at the smaller stores, bakeries and the local traffics it is not even possible to pay with the "Girocard".

Thats why i think a big launch in Germany with Giro-, Credit- and DebitCard is the best for all of us.

Big launch with every type of Card > Launch with only MC/Visa/Amex

No!

Yes, we are late! But most of the people are still using cash. If you compare the rising of cards used in the last 2 years it is a great improvent!

The people still dont know, that it is easier to pay cashless.
The "old" Banks (Sparkasse, Volksbank etc.) launched nfc cards at the beginning of 2017. They only replace the cards if they expire. It will take 2-3 years that "everybody" got a nfc card.

The next problem is, that card payments are not very convenient in germany. Many terminals still got the contactless function locked cause of "security doubts".
Why should you use AP if its not working 100%? This is the assigment of the banks to build a well working NFC infrastructure. That that event from Sparkasse is one of this.

There are so many signs: "Cards above 5/10€". It is ridiculous but they are still there. And if they wont change this, the people will use cash!

We are a country sill living the 1990 digital dream. We think we got the digital headway by using a smartphone and streaming 720p videos on our 16mbit internet connection.

Not enough people want the change to a cashless society. If there is no demand -> nothing will change
