No, sorry if there was a misunderstanding. Nothing is happening in the foreseeable future.

These were the results of the field test of the Sparkasse Siegen and MasterCard. Co-brand with Girocard won’t work either.

Yup.
And afaik, the only reason why DSGV cobranded the girocard with maestro/VPay and not with MC/Visa Debit is because the large retailers were so adamant about being able to get the IBAN if the account by reading the card chip to be able to do ELV and since this wouldn’t be possible with usual MC/Visa card numbers, DSGV had to use VPay and maestro since they support longer PANs (19 digits).

Sorry I don‘t understand what‘s the big plus point of MasterCard Debit for online payment. Yeah you can use the creditcard number to process your payment but that is highly insecure or not? What if the shops databases save creditcard numbers and get leaked? Nightmare. Or am I getting something wrong please help :)

This issue is going to be non existent from Sep ‘19 because from this point on, all online card payments will have to use 3D secure, meaning that a thief can’t to anything with your card unless he gets access to your phone as well.

Thank you very much. That‘s indeed very good!

Then you know more than involved people

About what? Don't worry. As excited as I would be, don't expect your local Sparkasse to get rid of their Girocards and issue MC Debit's only ;) As much as MasterCard would want Sparkasse to jump aboard their "Debit train", DSGV will be sure to push further with Girocard, just as they have done with Paydirekt (and other partners have retreated from their promise to put money into the funding pot).

Back to the main topic: Interesting, as today was actually quite a busy day for Apple Pay. HSBC and and apetiz were announced as coming soon in France today, Credit du Nord (belongs to Societe Generale) launched, along with Intesa San Paolo in Italy. Banco Itau in Brazil started issuing debit cards for Apple Pay today as well. Over the last two weeks bunq and Monzo launched immediate in-app provisioning of cards after opening an account / ordering a card (not sure if that is a backend thing on Apple's part).

I still think the launch will take us into next week, but usually such changes to Apple Pay have been an indicator of things to come fairly soon (at least in the past). As always: We'll see.

Just found a nice tweet ... look at the detail slide...

Think about one idea: Get a Girocard for german POS and MasterCard Debit co-branded on your Girocard for online-shopping and abroad... it is not far away!

The problem is ... it would really make sense that you don’t get to much dependet on US services and companies, that not every single bit of information gets computed on US servers.

But it would have to be an European solution to get acceptance and to be competetiv.

And how are the chances that enough European banks are working together to get an independent solution?

To quote one of the threats: sad, very sad.

You can‘t really retire your EC card here. I was at the cinema yesterday, without cash because I pay everything with my MasterCard usually, and no terminal accepted MC. Had to look for my EC card, which I thankfully also carry with me.
The kicker is, it‘s a pretty massive cinema here with hundreds of people there 247.

Off-topic somewhat, but as it applies to Apple Pay being accepted... I just saw the opposite, they are putting up new parking ticket machines here where I live (Berlin-Mitte) and the only card option is Mastercard and VISA, no girocard ("EC-Karte"). NFC accepted :)

We have very similar ones here, but they don't accept any kind of cards, cash only. :(

Very cool! Around this area Deutsche Bahn have installed all new ticket machines with LED lighting and NFC functionality. It's really starting to pick up now!
Machines for parking tickets in Tübingen still only take coins or the dreaded "EC Karte". Apparently they will be replaced and should support NFC at some point as well, so I was told.

By the way: Aldi Süd have now got new standby screens for their terminals, showing GPay and Apple Pay. Weirdly the logos for MC and Visa are out-of-date.

They are very very new, I only took a photo this morning because I hadn't seen the machine before. The paid parking area starts on December 1.

Those machines have also been installed in other parts of Berlin Mitte. In June, paid parking started in my area and they all accept NFC. In some parts, the old machines also got replaced with the new ones (Hackescher Markt partly). Very useful I think. I started using ParkNow, so you check-in and check-out with your phone and there is no need of estimating the time in advance.

Also all BVG public transport machines accept NFC. What I personally miss is card acceptance in restaurants, bars, late shops, bakeries and so on. And also Deutsche Bahn clearly needs to catch up with NFC acceptance.

Another guys writes that the dates are only the validity of the Aldi newsletter

No, the newsletter says that the stores will be receiving Apple Pay acceptance stickers which will be put into the terminals on the day of the launch and that they’re not allowed to put them on the terminals before the launch. So i would say that it’s a pretty credible source.
