BNP Paribas Fortis app and Hello Bank! Just got an update. No mention of Apple Pay or so but the timing is suspicious.
[doublepost=1542996352][/doublepost]Also planned maintenance this weekend at BNP and Hello Bank!...
An update to banking apps is not a good hint for an ApplePay start date, none of my cards required to have a banking app installed on my phone.

I saw the Apple Pay logo on the payment terminal at my local Aldi Süd today. I think the launch is close...

Generally no. BUT they have some updated T&C that are applicable from the 30/11/2018.

Can you translate it to English?
Third-party payment applications

Depending on the bank's capabilities, the Easy Banking App service allows the cardholder to access certain third-party payment applications in order to link his bank/credit card issued by the bank to them in accordance with the dedicated provisions of the General Terms and Conditions applicable to the card concerned

I tried my best some translations are probably a bit rough.

how does apple pay work with bunq?
will they create a virtual card for apple pay, or can we ust add one (or all?) of the three cards included to apple pay?

and do I need to have the plastic card, or will apple pay directly possible?

You’ll be able to add all of your cards to Apple Pay, and yes, you will need to order at least one plastic card which you’ll the add to Apple Pay.
The good thing is, that you don’t have to wait for your plastic card to arrive to use Apple Pay.

If you don’t want to wait a few days for the German launch, you can use a workaround to get an Italian maestro or MasterCard which you can already add to the wallet.

That workaround is now a lot more difficult which will involve you having to download the open source bunq banking software. If I were you: Just wait until it launches ;)

Calm down, this NFC API has been there since iOS 11. it’s really limited actually. Apps can only read NFC tags and only specifically programmed ones. Meaning that this can not be used for NFC payments. Nor can passport or ID card chips be read using this API because it’s not able to parse those infos (too many MB‘s for Apple‘s specifications) - hence why the British government is currently in talk with Apple to include support for ID cards and passport NFC chips.

To that, the nfc Tag reading UI is not programmable by the specific app developer, a developer can only tell iOS to launch the built-in, native iOS UI (the one you see on the second screenshot in the article).

Unless an EU governing body forces Apple to FULLY open NFC, it won’t ever happen, no matter which bank tries to make them do it.

what, I don't believe it !!??
there are two things available for some time, NFC passes and NFC reading on iPhone.
But with both of these it's had to make alternative payment option especially as to use the first option (NFC pass) you have to get apple approval.
These are used for some time now eg.: https://appleinsider.com/articles/1...ss-pairs-nfc-with-face-id-touch-id-for-access

so please do not start the story that Sparkassen are going to use that as an apple pay alternative.

I'll wait and use boon in the meantime, but want to be prepared to get a maestro into apple pay on launch day (for all places where credit cards are not accepted).

For the NFC:
I am glad that they don't open up NFC fully at the moment.
You can see on Android, that every bank tries to make their own solution. If you have only one bank, you might be fine with it, but multi banking guys like me would get into app-hell.

Well there is no need to do the workaround. As soon as your place the order of your card you are able to use it for online purchases etc. That also means you will be able to add the card to your wallet as soon as Apple Pay launches. No need to do the workaround if you want to be ready on day one. If rumors are true and AP will launch on 28/29 you should be able to wait another couple of days.

They were always going to offer it!

The question was never IF they’ll be offering it - I was referring to those who used the Black Friday deal to get the free account - and if Apple Pay launches this week this would mean it would launch before bunq cards would arrive. So I wanted to know if you can add the Maestro card before it arrives.

You can anyway! I ordered another new bunq card last week (hasn't arrived yet) and it already shows the option to add to Apple Pay. German address and so that option shouldn't come up. Probably within a BIN range already ready to support that feature :)

Only problem for me is: The account is just a tad too expensive and I hope they bring a cheaper version (3/4 euros, max. 2 cards, max. 5 accounts or so. That would do me.
