seems so... but isn’t that something we thought Apple wouldn’t do again? Or is there just one (very very very uber) large bank?
Rather big.
About 60 Mio Customers, 100.000 employees, About 450 Billions total assets.
(total population about 210 million in brazil)

Compared to
German Sparkassen Finanzgruppe: 50 Mio Customers (still growing), 320.000 employees, 2300 Billion total assets
(total population about 80 million in Germany)

In that case it's comparatively small actually. Some numbers I found put it on 3rd place overall in Brazil, although I have no knowledge whatsoever of the Brazilian banking sector.

So now the game begins again. Where will Apple Pay stop next?

I am so glad, that I can use Pay already since a couple of months with boon Ireland (used it about 30 times in 10 different stores from January-March).
And with iOS 11.3 it even gets easier, as updates from foreign stores are handled without changing AppStore region.
Don't know when Pay will come to Germany, but actually I don't care that much anymore. It would make it a little easier because of the TopUps I have to make to boon. But as this works over Creditcard flawless, you can even do it 1 minute before a buy, without having the card with you (you just have to remember the CVC).
The usage without Pin is Great and makes payment so much easier without any hassle. Just yesterday paid in a restaurant, they had the mobile payment solution from SumUp. Very interesting and the guy was very interested in the technology.
To summarize, I don't wait anymore for Pay in Germany, I just follow the state of it ;-)

same as me - as i said before, i dont care anymore - and i get cashback points with boon which i wouldn't get with sparkasse / dkb / n26 / whatever.

Why dont you start auto top up? i setted mine up to top up to 200€ if i have less than 150€. no remembering some pin or cvc . its wonderful ^^

I was lucky enough to activate it on the Dutch Bunq before it got deactivated. And I love paying with it, so much faster than taking out wallet, getting card etc. Yet I do care for a Dutch rollout. First of all, Bunq is not my main bank, I'm topping it off weekly, and in some way it helps to keep track of my expenses a bit better this way. Yet, I would like to use it with my main bank (ING). Second, my partner was just 15 minutes late to activate his Bunq Apple Pay card, and I would love it if he could use it as well. Third, it's rather ridiculous that these nations in this very wealthy part of the world do not have Apple Pay rolled out. I somehow feel it should at least have some kind of priority for Apple. We're not bloody Botswana or Zimbabwe (with all do respect for Botswana and Zimbabwe).

Well here in Germany many people fear that there will be no cash anymore in the future. Some think that the government could just take their money away or something like that so thats why they dont want that... I think its stupid because Apple Pay is just as private as it can get but they dont know it and thats sad. Some articles even compare Apple Pay to Google Pay and thats not comparable in terms of privacy. As i understand it Apple Pay cant track your shooping habits and people dont get that.

That is just wrong as i understand it and if journalists dont differentiate, how can normal people do this?

I was at my local Apple Store here in Germany looking at the Apple Watch and the employee was actually advertising Apple Pay for the watch. I was joking about if it’s even be available in Germany and he said that he is already using it. I asked him if he is using it with an Ireland account (boon) and he said that he is able to use it already via Apple ( wortwörtlich: Durch Apple intern kann ich es schon nutzen).
Idk if this means anything for Apple Pay in Germany, maybe Apple Pay Cash activation, but interesting that he was even talking about Apple Pay. I thought they are not allowed to talk about stuff like that.

Why not switch from ING to bunq entirely? It’s really easy with the Dutch overstapservice. Second, there is a way for your partner to get Apple Pay (and for you to add a MasterCard). Just search twitter for bunq love.

May sound corny but ING literally was a life saver when I was stuck in NYC after 9/11. That bank did all they could and more to help me.

Maybe they have Apple owned credit cards they can use. Don’t think they give them the ability to use whatever card they have to get AP working here. Or they are part of something like an betatest.

Keep calm and drink beer. Erm tea. :D

I bet, Apple will start AP Germany, the Netherlands and Czech Republic this summer.

Until then I don‘t want to mess around with foreign pseudo-credit/debit cards with manual or automatic charging. I want to use my regular GiroCard and/or my regular MasterCard and/or my regular Amex card.
Anything else is pure playground.

I can understand your loyalty in that case ;)
This is something, some people will understand, when they are in trouble and nobody at bunq/n26/wirecard/... will help them. Because there isn‘t someone anymore, to talk to. Perhaps already knows you and has the rights to help you.

On a side note: I've applied for the KBC IE Basic Current account (which might actually come in handy at some point) as I have read of users having problems using boon (Twitter/Forums). Who knows how long it will continue to work? At least KBC would be a good backup option. Also: It's a proper bank account, the language is English and the currency is € with makes it a good option for me. Two of my UK accounts have increased their foreign POS transaction costs, which means it's become basically unusable abroad. On my recent trip to the US I usually payed with boon (1,75% + MC conversion rate -> I thought that was a decent deal, with added benefit of Apple Pay security). Never had a problem. Next time I'm in the UK I'll try to open an account with Metro and/or Starling bank, as they have good deals on their accounts - especially abroad. But you need a UK address / residency which most won't have, but for those who do: Those are the banks to go with.

I agree with docfred that this summer will be primetime for Apple Pay / hopefully in Germany. And if nothing happens (or no announcements), then that's more or less it until 2019. I enjoy using boon in Germany, but would also appreciate Sparkasse/ING support. People keep talking about DKB/Commerzbank, but ING is by far the largest direct bank in Germany. They also offer Apple Pay in Australia (with many holdout banks there) and the German branch is known for at least trying to be at the forefront of tech / position itself as an innovative bank. There is a good chance of them being a launch partner. They also don't have an Android payment option so possible a chance for Google Pay there as well. Another advantage: They actually offer Girocard contactless, which many other banks (apart from Sparkasse/Volksbank) don't offer. A problem is the business proposition: This is where direct banks have an advantage, as they live off transaction costs / mortgages / loans, but customers cause high costs with free accounts, free money withdrawal. If they can get people to increase spending by card / smartphone, that saves them money - even when you deduct the "Apple pay tax".

I just hope Apple Pay launches before the WWDC. ING doesn't do contactless credit cards and Apple Pay would be the only way to get that. I don't want to carry stacks of cash around while in the US.

Also, it would be great to have a backup in case my cards get stolen.

If your card is stolen, you have to inform your bank. They will disable and lock this CC and you won‘t be able to pay with Apple Pay either.

A benefit though: Some banks (at least Nationwide in the UK offer that) can issue replacements (which when you're abroad is difficult) and these can immediately be added to the Wallet app!

Don‘t you need the CC physical to add it? CVC and so on?

Nope, at least not last time... as far as I remember. I added the Visa number and got a confirmation email with a security code I had to enter.

Apparently it's changed, so you can continue to use your card - even if it's been stolen and locked (-> https://www.nationwide.co.uk/suppor...ple-pay/apple-pay-faqs#xtab:what-if-lose-card). Other banks allow you to add the card from their own banking app. The replacement card is offered, tap add to Wallet and you're done!
