I was riding the tube in London yesterday. To enter and exit I tap my N26 contactless MasterCard against the reader at the gate. They will calculate the distance and debit my account accordingly.
I was wondering how this will work with ApplePay? Isn’t every transaction a unique token/ID that is passed on to the reader? How do they reconcile the entry and exit tap when they can’t match a unique ID?
Sorry a little off topic but since we have noting to do till Tuesday I thought this would be an interesting question.

Its a unique number for each device that is send to the terminal... Thats why you can't use your iPhone at the entrance and if you go out your Apple Watch, that would be more expensive afaik. (because two different devices so the cap won't count)

No offense, but this thread is about Apple Pay, not about health apps and Apple Watch ECG
Who knows if ECG is not getting AP relevant? If the watch recognizes presigns of a heart attack when you see the price of your teenage kids new jeans or the new handbag of your wife, it might block the payment to prevent further damage :D

In this case transactions would be possible to track. I thought Apple always advertised the privacy feature of AP.

Every device has an unique device number. For every transaction is a one time token used to verify the transaction. The shops you shop at don't know your name nor you cc number but they recognize with your unique number. ApplePay works with the tube in London because of that. My hope is that Apple cares less about the banks and how they handle rolloutstops and just thinks: we unlocked it for Germany, now it’s up to you to decide if you want to roll it out for your bank :)

I always use my Oyster card (due to annual passes etc.), but I'm hoping they bring it into Wallet - working together with Apple on that.

If you intend to travel through London using Apple Pay then be advised: Not all cards work. For fun I tried boon. and that didn't work. It'll be interesting to see if VIMpay or other prepaid solutions cause problems. Sometimes Nationwide has proven shaky via Apple Pay as well. The debit/credit card needs a certain (offline?) limit assigned so that you can get through. Oh, and please open your Wallet and authenticate with Touch/Face ID before you get to the gate. Nothing worse than tourists hanging about during rush hour trying to figure out how it works  Don't be surprised to get knocked out of the way on a Friday afternoon at Victoria station!

Question to you all: Any new occurrences when adding your cards into Wallet? For me comdirect still brings up the terms and conditions and they haven't disappeared since last week. Hopefully a good sign. Someone on Twitter mentioned that Hanseatic Bank now show them as well.

maybe on tuesday there is only an announcement for wednesday and interview/presentation to the press, just like switzerland. I hope not but it could well be the same
Apple knows Ger is quite a difficult and yet important market for AP (data protection and security importance for the people) and that they have quite a bit of "convincing work" to do.

I can tell that boon. DOES work for the Oyster System. At least it worked the last time I went to London in April...

Two people, two different experiences.

As I don’t see the point of using my bank to process my travel expenses, I stick to my Oyster.

BTW ... looking at the Deutsche Bank Banking Website from today, it seems like they first need to get the basics right before dealing with 'advanced' stuff like AP :)

https://meine.deutsche-bank.de/trxm/db/

<< Can't understand what's the problem?

It looks like several days before....?

And the main HP says "Coming Soon"

https://www.deutsche-bank.de/pk.html

Hopefully on tuesday.....

And btw: more than 200 "pages" alone in this thread....really awesome...fantastic ...unbelievable ;)

I’m in London only every other week for one day. The ability to pay directly with a cc card is fantastic. So much easier than buying a separate ticket. This is the best part of the crappy underground in London.

Crappy? The Tube is the best in Europe and far better then any in the US. Why do you see it as crappy?

No the best metro is in St. Petersburg and Moscow. Buy far. It’s the cleanest metro with the most beautiful stations and trains come practically every 60 seconds and cheap.

Crappy? What planet do you live on?

For occasional tourists it's ok. But you can't get a season pass set up ... also with an Oyster pass you get a lot of other advantages. First off: It's instant, while Apple Pay (or cards) take a second or two. Anyway: I like it when people come over here to experience and enjoy a world-class city (along with its top-notch transit system) ;) Also I only tried boon. once, so yes: It may have been a glitch (which happens from time to time with the contactless feature). I spoke to a TfL guy and they said prepaid cards on the whole can cause problems (which happened to Monzo users a lot whilst they were still issuing prepaid MasterCards - you're lucky if it works, but no guarantee). It has to do with the barrier needing to check online, while some cards that work "offline" and have a set offline limit are faster.

Back to the topic (this thread isn't about metros or ECGs): Do we agree that this week is the last chance for a launch in good ol' Germany?

Back to the topic (this thread isn't about metros or ECGs):

We are on page 200 probably 70 of those pages are offtopic. Don’t think there is too much to talk about Apple Pay right now is it? So it will launch next week or it won’t. If it will we need to find a new topic anyway. :p

This ehssan guy might not have been right in the years before but he’s having a run this year so I guess he’s right this time again. He was with the conference call, the landing page and the Belgium launch. Maybe he’s just very good at guessing but maybe his insider (sunny?) does really know something. But I still think the week after next week could be possibly too. Christmas is only in two weeks at least my bank does not close down before Christmas.

Edit: And I don't consider Russia a part of Europe. It's more asian by far.

It’s not dude. Up to Jekaterinburg is Europe. The bigger part of Russia is in Asia yes but the part west of jekaterinburg (including Moscow and St. Petersburg, Perm last big city in Europe) is europe.

sunny isn't his source anymore. Thats probably why Ehssan has a good run.
Sunny2k1 knows nothing and he still believes iOS would need an softwareupdate in order to launch AP in Germany.
