This is what I saw today... Apparently you can buy tokens for the self washing machines and vacuums with AP.

Nothing really new, they only used another implementation through this separate NFC reader.

In every Mcdonalds I walked as far as I remember were already self order terminals with NFC. But the NFC reader usually was in the display of the card terminal.

I used Boon/Apple Pay there several times in the last years.

Ok, in Munich I have never seen that. Only in different countries.

I already had stores accepting NFC and underlying the only supported Girocard.
But then the case is „they don’t support creditcards“. Not „they don’t support Apple Pay.“

Merchants don’t have to „support Apple Pay“. They have to accept NFC payments and if you have an accepted card in your wallet, you can pay with your phone.

Well they do accept Amex in general. But the terminals don’t accept those cards using Apple Pay.

Gonna wait till something happenes in my local Store. Or maybe try to get in contact with McDonald’s

Just a sidebar about AMEX Gold.

Looks like from today onwards it’s only 3 months free instead of 12 months for new applicants!
This card just became highly unattractive to recommend to someone.

I also don’t see any new “benefits” offered to justify this new cost. (They lost Boingo partnership last year e.g.)

Hard to guess why they would do this. I thought after Apple Pay things would start looking good for them.

Yes, it was working through Amex Apple Pay.

I am wondering if some shop does not accept Amex cards, but accept NFC and ApplePay for Visa, MC etc ... can you pay with Amex through ApplePay?

Then its better to have Visa on you ApplePay because its much more accepted everywhere in Europe, specially now when American Express is actually leaving many (or even all) EU countries till the end of the year because of new EU law.

Amex leaving Europe?

You are right. On the other hand when you see how low is Amex acceptance in Europe they can close everything here. It will be even lower now after this decision. But thats for some other topic...

The one thing has nothing to do with the other. And Amex is growing. Even in Germany. Wider acceptance at stores and sites, more customers.

There is a good wording in German:
Traue keiner Statistik die du nicht selbst gefälscht hast.

Look at the map of Frankfurt an judge the experience with Bluecode to pay in a store:

How can they be number 1 if I can nearly never pay with it?
