Germany has to enter the digital age at some point, I hope. No Apple or Google Pay, slow broadband in many places, mobile data allowances are pathetic, free Wi-Fi in trains, bars, etc is a rare thing. This is beyond a joke, and is hurting the economy.

In germany if you would ask anyone they would argue with privacy thats the ironic part about it... Apple Pay is the best thing for privacy and they dont realize it. (or dont want to)

I mean the big banks like Sparkasse... Apple Pay wont lauch with N26 or Banks like that i dont think so. Apple Pay is also about image, if they would launch with small banks like N26 everyone would think of it as a niche thing and they dont want that.

I honestly didn’t expect it this time, so I’m not even disappointed anymore. Luckily enough I was able to activate Bunq before it was closed. It’s not my main bank but it will do for now. I suspect the Dutch and German banks are as much to blame, let’s hope they’ll find a way out at some point.

I still think that we will see Sparkasse launch its Android NFC Payment along with Apple Pay. Following this thread Apple Pay will start in Poland in mid of June. So there is still enough time to start AP in Germany on 30th of July (when Sparkassen will go NFC on Android)...

In my opinion this is the only reason Apple Pay has not been announced/started in Germany. We do have enough banks who wouldn't wait starting Apple Pay here (N26, bunq, ING-Diba, etc). Some of them already working with Apple Pay in other countries. So there is no reason not to start it in Germany. And Sparkasse is big enough that Apple would 'wait' for them to get their stuff ready.

I would also add to this list Austria, Belgium und Luxembourg. Don't get it what's so different here.

Sad thing is that we will never find out. But it would be really really interesting.

One thing I don’t get. There is a lot of talking that Germany is a country ppl want to pay using money. But it’s kinda hard to live completely without using money and just using electronical payments.

At least here in my town you do need cash. When buying a ticket for local transport (bus or tram), parking car, etc.

I think much more ppl would change to electronic payment when it would be possible to live without cash.

And when I think about ppl paying when shopping. I see a lot more ppl paying with a card and not using cash.

weird enough. Now nearly all neighbors can come to germany and pay with Apple Pay ;-) The infrastructure is there and widely spread where cards are accepted. There are still some situations where they dont accept Creditcards at all (usually public institutions like swimming halls, government site etc.) but the most other stores and institutions changed their way of handling cards. and usually when the accept NFC, which gets into that business more and more, apple pay works.

then there is absolutely no explanation why we don't have Apple Pay. only explanation was 'apple is waiting for Sparkasse' to have a huge player with them and not doing the same 'mistake' like they did in Switzerland...

Let's use this thread to discuss Apple Pay in Germany...

Experiences, developments etc. all in a single thread!
Hints about when Apple Pay is coming to Germany have been few and far between over the last year, with negotiations between Apple and German banks allegedly stalling due to conflicting views over fees and controls.

The last rumor came back in May in previous year and suggested that Apple Pay would launch in the country in the fall or winter, but today one MacRumors reader provided us with another potential hint that Apple is gearing up to introduce its mobile payment system in Germany imminently.

There are always at least to partner to launch AP.

But: The big players like Sparkasse and Volksbanken are the most important. Without them its not worth to launch AP.
Of course Apple wants to make money, but if the Banks wants AP, it already started.

Most of their customers dont care about mobile Payment. Its okay, but why the Banks arent pushing mobile payment?

If you see whats going on in Germany its f* ridiculous. We have Girocards and should pay for creditcard?
We have to pay a high amount for withdrawals with our cc?

They are pushing the „Geldkarte“, „ELV“ and their latest big thing „paydirekt“
Not to forget the „new“ Girocard concatless without nfc co-badging.
The Banks are still selling Cardpaymentlosution with „Girocard only“
So many tourist cant understand whats going on if they want to pay with creditcard

All of there fact are frustrating. Mobile payment is coming to android without CDVM.
Congratulations Sparkasse. Its going to be the same fail as always.
That is one point why german people arent using new technologies. The convenience is just bad with these technologies.

They invested more that 500 million euros in payment. Market share= less than 10%.

First to-do today: gooing to sparkasse and shut down everything.

I dont think there were any serious talk between Sparkasse and Apple at all - Sparkasse Organisation will have an own solution, since the own solution cant work with Apple - they just blend it off and Go with android. Sorry to Break your Hopes but at least this Or i also think next Year i dont expect Apple Pay from Sparkasse oder Volksbanken to Go live!
