Apple Pay Apple Pay in Germany

Apparently, the Sparkassen App for mobile Payment is live for some branches (https://www.mobiflip.de/mobiles-bezahlen-sparkasse-android-app/) and Sparkassen are able to charge for using their mobile payment app (probably the reason why they don’t want Google Pay...) Banks in NRW are traditionally total crazy... 
Many cities are near bankruptcy and force their companies to raise prices and make more money out of every little "fliegenschiss". Don't think, that many other banks will follow them at pricing.
Thats pro and con of the S-Verbund, every bank can make their own prices. My account is completely free of charge, in other regions they are force to pay up to 10€/month. If the local bank is in big competition, they can not afford to price this service.

If the information about the test are correct the social media team from Sparkasse cannot know this because of NDAs.

Hope this is a good sign for Apple Pay too. Would fit with the earnings call the on 31st. But even if Apple Pay wont launch in the near future it is nice to see that finally something is going forward in germany in the mobile payment department.
tbh I think we will see Apple Pay this year here in Germany and I do think we will see Girocard with it and with Sparkasse and VRBank - hope DKB, ING-DiBa and other usual suspects are with them from start on....

So I want to share my experience with bunq. I was able to use bunq with Apple Pay because I did get it right in time before they blocked it for German users. My wife and i we have both been using bunq with Apple Pay over the last couple of month and it did work without a problem. But today seems it stopped working. Neither with my account nor my wife with hers is any longer able to make payments with Apple Pay. Bunq did update the app three days ago and far as I know there have been made some changes to Apple Pay but im not sure on that. Can anyone confirm that Apple Pay with bunq for German users no longer works?

Apple Pay acceptance. I still have the card in my wallet same goes for my wife and her Apple Watch but for whatever reason the terminals are not accepting it anymore. The terminal keeps saying „card not working“ or „insert card in terminal“. And this happened at multiple locations (DM, Tedi, Edeka and Kaufland). We have been paying at those place many times before but no idea what’s going on today. Just not working.
I Advice you to just ask bunq support why this could be using the in app support: https://www.bunq.com/link/support . They are very helpful and I’m sure they will help you. Just mention that it stopped working for you.

Yes there are. I have seen them a lot in my last travel to the states (Anaheim) in May. Usually when I have seen them, they were built into something, pretty often swipe reader at the side of the cashier screen. But also sometimes old external device with signature pad. But mostly it was the first situation.

If anyone cares to check back with what I reported a while back from the Sparkasse event I attended, everything has been confirmed so far. Information by S-Payment was also, that Apple Pay is a no go. Sparkasse want access to the NFC chip.
