Don’t think there is something. Even if Apple is saying something about Apple Pay in Germany next week. Don’t think it will start that soon...

Is it a coincidence, that Sparkasse releases its own mobile payment solution for android at July 30/31, exactly one day before Apple maybe announces new Apple Pay countries? Or is that just too much interpretation from my part?

Speculated on the same thing a few weeks ago.
I was told the girocard was important to support at/close to launch in Germany. Seeing that girocard is THE key product of Sparkasse/Genossenschaftsbanken, I would guess Apple has made a deal to implement the girocard and get SPK/Genossen on board as strategic partners, but also had to wait until the girocard digital solution is able to be launched on all big operating systems within a few weeks or months maximum. Sparkasse especially has stated on social media they are 'interested in Apple pay'.
As much as some people think this is just to keep the dogs from barking, in this context I see that as a confirmation of the aforementioned situation, without SPK having to admit the delay is due to their own inability to launch girocard digital earlier.

So all in all, Apple delays AP to be able to launch with the big boys instead of just some direct banks and fintechs.

Well maybe Apple Pay is ready and they just wait for Apple to „push the button“ on earnings call.
I don't think they'll push the button on earnings call. They would only announce it for later this year and push the button in September or October

After Rudolf Linsenbarth's latest statements on Twitter I also believe we will not see AP launching until later this year, regardless if it will be announced next week. Which still remains entirely possible though.

It won’t launch before October. So don’t get your hopes up :) Also, still debatable that Sparkasse will be part of it... there are many more banks in Germany that are of interest.

Don't worry, my hopes are pretty low. Is that it won't launch before October just a speculation from you or from where do you have this information?

I don’t think that they will push the button. But when ppl think there could be something in common when referring to date of earnings call and the start of digital girocard or something else with Sparkasse. Then it would be the only way that this could have something in common.

I think they announce it on earnings call and 1-2 months later we will be able to use it.

Tough it could be possible that they refer to something like „80m potential customers cause of supporting digital girocard in Germany“

Read and interpret. I think this is a very interesting answer.

Erm. Wow. I recently was in contact with someone from a Sparkasse department (not a specific Sparkasse, but one of their service providers) and again I was told that Apple Pay is not going to happen. This would completely contradict it. How can this guy say stuff like this in his position on Twitter? Where does he have his sources? Maybe the Earnings Call might be interesting after all... or maybe not.

On a side note: It has happened before (I believe Italy), that countries launched without prior information or the landing page having shown anything about an imminent launch (ie. for Germany it would be https://www.apple.com/de/apple-pay/).

I don't know who is right in this case.

Erm. Wow. Either their social media team has lost their thread of thought or this is gonna be big... I still believe they're probably confused between iOS and their Android solution. I want to be proven wrong so badly

Sie werden in der kommenden Woche noch von uns hören. Da werden wir dann etwas ankündigen.

Sadly i do think they mixed something up... On the other hand, why would he say in the next weeks? The App already launched pretty much and nothing exept Apple Pay would need an "announcement" as he said... I mean its only about 3-4 days till the earnings call... who knows if the social media guys know more so close to the launch?

Nope, thats wrong. The Sparkassen reply was a direct answer to the question for a solution for iOS/Apple users.
The start of their android solution is already official, it is on monday (vgl. https://www.t-online.de/digital/han...-fuer-mobiles-bezahlen-startet-am-montag.html)

If you followed Sparkasses twitter account you should know that their hands dont know what their feet are doing. They have been mixing up things ever since they started tweeting about mobile payment and their social media team clearly seems to not know what they are talking about. And they have been denying Apple Pay over and over again in the last couple of weeks/months and they are surely not allowed to announce a announcment of Apple Pay. So my guess is they are just going to announce their Android solution again because there has been some confusion with the whole "available in july"/"available on july 30"/"available in august" statements...

Right. But when u look exactly they write “ankündigen”. Why should they made so stress on a Apple conversation. My interpretation is that they announce something new and don’t promote their own app. I’m a big optimist . Lets hope the best for next week.

It makes no sense at all that they have been denying Apple Pay just two/three weeks ago and now make a twitter statement like that. And Apple surely would have forced them to shut their mouth about anything related to Apple Pay. You can bet on it that soon Sparkasse will either delete that tweet or again make a statment like "Seems like our social media team is not up to date. We are currently only pushing our own solutions."

Yeah it looks so. Or it’s a joke. Like „we don’t interests us for Apple Pay“ and than „yeah guys it was a joke“

Do you really think they would make a „joke“ like this? I need to trust my bank because I’m giving them my money. If they are „joking“/lying about unimportant stuff like Apple Pay to their customers what holds them back to do even more suspicious things behind their customers back. Banking is the last thing on earth to make fun with. Sparkasse is mit that stupid.
