Just went into the Apple Store and asked a couple of members of staff about if they "knew what time it's launching tonight". However they really didn't seem to think it would be and said that even their card terminals had not been replaced with ones that would support contactless / Apple Pay which they were sure would be happening for day 1. They and the managers had been told to say July 31st.

However, I asked them to double press the side button on their watch, and on one of theirs (UK) it did come up with the "go on your phone to add cards to Apple Pay". So who knows!
I'd say this is the usual for Apple Store, they don't release any details as they know they will get crucified by head office if they are found out they give out any information

source: happened to a friend who worked at apple, previously.....

I asked her to let me see a card terminal to see if they had been replaced with contactless ones :p

In more positive news, I just spoke with the area manager of a new Sainsbury's store and he said Sainsbury's would be completing the replacement of their card terminals nationally within the next 2-3 months, and contactless will definitely be turned on in all stores (in one go) when every store has had all the terminals replaced.

There seems to be movement, I never got the terms and conditions page previously with First Direct but I do now.
When did you last try? I've been getting it with FD since last week. Gives a generic HSBC/FD set of terms?

Personally i'm with Natwest, they're supporting Apple Pay, Touch ID login and their app is great apart from the fact it doesn't support the iPhone 6 screen considering it's been almost a year how can they have forgotten to implement something so basic?

Ah you're right! Normally this bothers me. But I guess I am in and out of the app so quickly and it's not very information dense so I hadn't really clicked on.

Surely they'd look to avoid enabling before rush hour. If something goes wrong, that would be one MASSIVE PR crisis.

At least, that's what I would do. Then again, I'm not the CEO of a $700bn company.

I would say that you'll get the ability to add in passbook at midnight, as apparently, that's when iOS devices check the JSON file, but you've then got to wait on the banks to turn the back end on. That could be midnight, 6, 7, 8 am.
Curious, where did you hear about the midnight check? the json file still says US only so does this refresh at midnight from your knowledge or?

I read it somewhere last week, that iOS checks it at midnight local time, tho I'm struggling to remember where. The question is, when will Apple update the JSON file and, if what I read is true, does it check at midnight.

If it checks at midnight the latest the JSON file can be updated to be active on Tuesday is 2359.. lets hope we get it soon!

Midnight UK time or midnight Cupertino time (which would be 8am here tomorrow morning)?

I posted earlier that if it's gonna be midnight, it'll be unlikely to be Cupertino time (c. 8AM GMT) due to Waitrose briefing mentioning them 'live with Apple Pay' from the opening of business tomorrow morning. Opening registration at 8am half an hour before the store opens wouldn't give people a lot of time.
