When you say they don't support Apple Pay do you mean (subject to available funds/limit) or capped at £30?

Because (by rights) anywhere that's contactless should be aOK with Apple Pay.

'But as we all know Apple Pay still functions up to the value of £30.'

Yes the contactless allows for normal Apple Pay payments just like anywhere else in the UK that takes contactless but you won't see the Apple Pay stickers on any Tesco windows.

Sorry it was late at night when I replied (and I was half asleep).

In all fairness it doesn't matter Tesco won't have Apple Pay stickers on any windows; Morrison's do and they limit it to £30.00.

Yeah this really bugs me. If a company states they accept Apple Pay then they should accept it limitless. Tesco on Twitter state their stores in London accept Apple Pay with a limit of £20/30. That's just contactless! Same with Wilko and Morrisons, they have the stickers but they don't accept more than the usual contactless limit. The rule should be that if a company has contactless then there'll be a limit of £20/30 when using Apply Pay, but if they display the Apple Pay logo then they should accept it limitless.

I completely agree - it's almost a lack of knowledge/research into the technology which is poor for companies of this size. OR they assume the common consumer is ill-informed and won't question it - at the end of the day it's just about getting the customer in the door because the customer will always have another means to pay when they realise they can't spend more than £30.

I have a more frustrating story - the university I study at attend takes contactless payments in all cafes and shops but they insist that Apple Pay is disabled on their readers because apparently last year the university 'received a massive bill from Apple'. ;)

Have you tried just saying I'll pay by Contactless and whip your phone/watch out at the last minute :). I've encountered this in a few shops that say they don't take ApplePay so I've given up saying it.

I do exactly the same. I never ask about Apple Pay unless they display the sticker. I always say contactless please.

On the bus today I ran in to a ticket inspector. I had correctly scanned my phone when boarding but his reader kept saying "failed" after three or four times. He let me off (purely because I was getting off at that stop), but you would have thought TfL would have sorted these issues out by now.

It's so awkward!

My local Tesco Express now has contactless! It's on Cobalt Business Park near Newcastle. I spent the total of 59p via my watch today.

With a bit of luck this will sort out the ridiculous lunch time queues when everyone is using chip and pin for a £3 meal deal!

It's not worth the hassle - some people are so stubborn with things like this. Often half way through them saying 'that won't work here sorry' I've already paid with the phone and they then go 'Oh, ok then'.

I feel so backwards paying with a contactless card now.

I live in Derby.

Just the Tesco at Mickleover to join the party now!

Mind that's one of the 73 stores earmarked for non-24 hour opening from next month.

Reason I was asking is because the one I work at is an esso garage and I was going to say that the Tescos are being updated with contactless all down the same road.

Now we just need Asda and Sainsbury's to wake up and stop messing about with their own payment system.

My nearest Sainsbury's and Asda have contactless capable PIN terminals. For whatever reason Walmart are Hell bent on their own payment system (at least in the US) but Sainsbury's are touted as rolling contactless out during 2016.

Do Apple retail stores have a £30 limit as I tried to pay for a watch band using Apple Pay on the Apple Store app using easy pay and it declined so had to pay using my card, then I went to Morrisons for some shopping afterwards and it went through straightaway.

No, Apple Stores are only limited to the available funds in your account/credit card limit.

I know this to be the case as I used Apple Pay to buy my Watch (and Sport Band in December).

Has been some time since I used the Easy Pay part of the Store's app but it shouldn't have declined!

Having said that when I bought my Sport Band it took longer than necessary to complete payment (the store worker couldn't get the mobile handset to recognise my phone) so could be a "hiccup".

Just signed up to state that I paid £552 using contactless on Friday.
This was for work done at a vehicle body shop in Nottingham.
I guess that that type of business rarely will do sub £30 work, rather hundreds/thousands of pounds being the norm, and they had a newer reader so there was no limit.
