£20/$20 limit would make it near useless to me, personally. I can't use everywhere in the US, but the places that do except it take an unlimited amount.

One of the retailers mentioned (Boots) are going to be limitless from November 2015.

I think more and more retailers will eventually become limitless as they upgrade their terminals.

Other than fuel I think pretty much every transaction I make in person is under £20, definitely £30.

Given the banks don't seem to know when Apple Pay will launch I find it bizarre that Waitrose do. My guess is thats its just an estimate that Waitrose have come up with. I also find it bizarre that according to 9to5mac they have known the date since March.

I think that the banks do know when Apple Pay is due to launch, they're just playing none the wiser on Apple's instruction so that they can announce it themselves..

The we 'don't know when' line is just one of the standard responses banks social media teams have been given to say.

They've got to know the exact date to get prepared technically to handle all the transactions and sign ups and to have staff trained to help. Same with launch partners you've got to know in advance to train the staff so they are ready for people paying with their phones from day one.

I had a bPay band from Barclays last year and loads of stores hadn't been told about it so you ended up having to explain it was legit..

Also I wouldn't take everything a company says on Twitter to be the whole story. For example I've seen tweets from Tesco saying they don't plan to support Apple Pay:
https://twitter.com/Tesco/status/615889672917659648

But my local Express already supports contectless so will support it (unless they turn it off completely)

Difference in the UK is contactless support means you can pay for transactions up to £20 (£30 in September) with Apple Pay. Full Apple Pay support means you can pay for any amount using it.

As far as I understand, it is only the software on the terminals that needs to be updated to allow purchases greater than 20 pounds. So the cap will most likely be a short term thing. As another poster has already stated, it would make sense for this upgrade to take place at the same time as the cap is lifted to 30 pounds. Fingers crossed that by the end of the year Apple Pay will be fully functional in most shops that take contactless.

Are you in London? Afaik Tesco have been 'trialling' contactless there for a while now, I've never seen any contactless terminals in a Tesco up here or anywhere else in the country, years later..

Really excited for the 14th... Every time I have to pull out my card to pay for something now just makes me wish it'd come sooner!!

The £20 limit really doesn't bother me. Out of interest is there any difference in pricing to the Oyster card if you're using Apple Pay (or contactless) on the tube?

No, no price difference at all. Even if you use Apple Pay throughout a day on the Tube the daily cap still applies.

I know Tesco are using contactless in select London stores but outside of the M25 AFAIK there are no such terminals in their stores.

Tesco in Watford is contact less.

My local crappy little Tesco's in Newbury has the option for contactless on the self serve tills, but it's greyed out, as they don't have the terminals. I suspect it's coming eventually..

Yes I am in London. I don't get Tescos continued 'trialling' - you'd think they'd take peoples money anyway they can!

Contactless is actually cheaper than Oyster as it gives you a weekly cap as well as a daily one, the technology behind standard Oyster cards doesn't support this yet.

Just FYI - I can confirm that that is a Waitrose flyer.

Should Waitrose be sharing the release date information considering no other retailer has?

My only concern is, I have a railcard, so buying actual tickets works out better for me. But I want to use the contactless!
Loading your Railcard onto your Oyster card and using that is surely the cheapest option for you?

Edit: I'm also aware that TfL are working towards being able to associate Railcards with contactless card numbers (incl. Apple Pay) in the next couple of years.

I'm still surprised that contactless hasn't expanded out of London. There's contactless points on barriers at my local stations of Newbury and Reading, so I've always expected it to come, but many years later, nothing. Wonder what's the holdup!

They're dragging their feet, contactless has been around for ages. Glad they're at least attempting it though. Be nice if it expanded out more!

Well the flyer is for staff, not public consumption, on the basis that it's kept within the business. They need to prepare their staff, so why shouldn't they share the date to them, so they know when to be ready?

As posted above me the option is present on the checkouts in my nearest Tesco store but 'greyed' out.

So the Watford store must be one of a few outside of the city centre.
The one in the middle of Luton has it greyed out. I didn't notice the grey and repeatedly tapped my Card on it until my colleague pointed it out... So used to waitrose working :)

The ones with it greyed out should should just be ones with old card readers. As far as I'm aware, all the ones with new card readers should have it enabled. Compare to Sainsbury's who all have the new card readers now but no mention of contactless anywhere.

I've seen people in front of me trying to use contactless on Sainsbury's terminals until a member of staff tells to present their card as Chip & PIN.

I know Sainsbury's are working on Zapp but given that places like Waitrose utilise NFC you'd think Tesco etc would roll it out too.
