I think they should rebrand the alu MB as a MBP, and reintroduce the black MacBook at the same price as the white.

That's a possibility. Would make sense too to have the Black and White polycarbonate models as just "MacBooks" at $999 with 2.13 GHz.

Then all the unibodies as "MacBook Pros" starting at say 13" for $1,399 and 2.53 GHz.

Amen there!

Also "Build-to-order options up to 500 GB are now available"

They better add that to the other MacBooks, especially every MacBook Pro ASAP. I really need a 500GB HD as soon as I can afford to get a 17" MacBook Pro. I'd love to ditch my 320GB portable HD and have everything internal
So do it yourself, takes a minute and will save you a lot of money.

that is a surprise. i bought a white macbook and got it yesterday... :(
Return it, you have a 14 day window.

Does anybody know if these new upgrade Macbooks will be in the stores today? I want to go buy a white macbook tonight in the store to get the free ipod as part of the back to school promo, but I'm afraid they will have the outdated/not upgraded macbooks in stores still.. thoughts? I might just call the apple store

I think it would be more logical to rebrand UMBs and UMBPs as macbooks and ditch the white one. I see no logic in rebranding them as macbook pros, i usually refer to macbook pros as macbooks (though it did confuse my friend when i talked about a 17" macbook)

The white book has been getting some nice updates and keeps it fresh for its $999 price.

I recall seeing some threads about the MacBooks getting the better quality screens akin to the MBAir's. Was that all MB's or just the AlumMBs?

If the white MB has the improved screens too, that makes for a great machine for the price (for my needs).

There's no "overclocking" in the way that most people think of overclocking. This is designed to be a 2.13 GHz processor and yes it's most likely a P7450. The P7450 is also slightly more power efficient than the P7350, so coupled with more efficient parts/ better battery, might explain the extra 30 mins battery life.

Makes sense to me. I updated the wiki article.

How is the P7450 more efficient again?

Wow! For $999, that machine just gets better and better. I had an original 2006 model and I was amazed time and time again of how much I could accomplish on that 13" wonder. The new ones with Nvidia graphics and faster RAM blows the old ones out of the water. $999 is an amazing deal.

What kills me is that the PC Hunter ads would has the public believing that this Mac does not exist. It boils my blood to know people are going out and wasting $1000 on a PC because they don't think they can get a MacBook for under a grand.

It would be nice if they introduce that new carbon fiber coating they've been working on for the macbook range. I'd buy a new blackbook to replace my aging whitebook

Part of me thinks that they might introduce a 15" macbook (hopefully in black/CF), kill off the 2.0 Alu Macbook and just have the 2.4, they have been a few hints of apple wanting to make a few low end range changes.

It'll make the options a lot like the old ibook/powerbook range.
