i think that the aluminiums are getting spec bumps at WWDC. and the aluminium macbooks are turning into macbook pros .

anyone else think ?

I do. It would make sense. I don't think this will be the only surprise coming though. I'll be jazzed if they announce a Netbook as "One More Thing".

is the increased battery life to do with 10.5.7?

I think so ... but they could have also done something to the batteries.

It's down to cost. The unibody manufacturing process doesn't come cheap.

No, the only thing about Apple that's cheap is the smack talk around here. :p

I love the Unibody design, and think highly of Cupertino and the design team at Apple for it - but the design can't fully justify the largest margins in the industry. They can and should be trimmed a bit.

:apple:

Ahem, you're not wasting $1,000 if you specifically want a PC. There is much more value in the Windows world.

That depends on what value you place on excellent engineering, longevity of hardware, good sell-on fees, intuitive OS, etc. All qualities Apple is renowned for. :) That said, I'll not buy any laptop with glossy screens - no reflection on the product, only a personal preference.

And I know you're going to bring up the "it still uses Windows" argument, but with Windows 7 coming out your point is moot. This MacBook I own is looking more lame each and every day. Good thing these have great resell value.

This is a much better bang for the buck:

After rebate, it's the same price as the Unibody Macbook, and you're getting a Quad-Core laptop CPU, 4GB ram (upgradable to 8GB for $300), ATI 4650 GPU with 1GB of dedicated video ram, and a 500GB hard drive.

Part of me thinks that they might introduce a 15" macbook (hopefully in black/CF), kill off the 2.0 Alu Macbook and just have the 2.4, they have been a few hints of apple wanting to make a few low end range changes.

It'll make the options a lot like the old ibook/powerbook range.

That's what i was thinking they would do. They'd have to put a better screen in the Macbook though, but they have the one used in the air.

I hate that argument, because in reality, you never know what you're getting hardware-wise. Some people run flawlessly for years and years, and others with the same exact hardware are boggled with issues. You never really know what you are getting, it doesn't matter if it is Windows-based or an Apple product.

LOL, and my sister just got her 2.0 GHz model last weekend...:p

Maybe their next tweak to the white MB will include an OLED panel and a BD drive. :D

Now I'm not saying Macs are amazing value for money or anything but that weighs 7.7 lbs and is 1.7" thick. Hardly a portable machine. There are far better comparisons to make than these two.

That's a nice $699 spec laptop, but I'll still sell lots of them anyway to the "all my cool friends have one" crowd, thanks to Apple marketing and the clever and entertaining Mac ads. :apple:

Wow, it's only been about 4 months since the last major update (2.0 GHz NVIDIA).

If it keeps getting refreshed at this rate, then I think I'll wait until the next "silent update" in late September, or even next January. :p

Great value, until something goes wrong with it under warranty and HP refuses to fix it, dicks you around, fixes it but breaks something else....I wouldnt touch a pc laptop from HP if someone payed me to....

That's the rub with buying apple stuff. You pay a premium for nifty looking gear (I personally think they are more sturdy), a different OS (one that I really like using better) and iLife. For me, I'm OK with the paying the premium.

Maybe not for munchkins, elves or runway models. :D

For very portable solutions the netbooks are flying off the shelves. I sell a few dozen a week. One customer dropped by with a big grin on his face and showed me Leopard running on it. :)

This is a nice bump, and for me unexpected. This also indicates that they meant it when they said that they would make the white macbook for a long time.

Very good deal... I might be able to convince my gf to get a mac now...this with a free ipod touch...

Does the white macbook still go yellow? My MB looks like an incontinent cat has been living in it
