Chill friends and family :D

A "computer" doesn't just exclusively mean MacBook Pro hahahaha. It's just the sake of advertising to the lowest denominator of gadgets consumers is all, don't worry, meh ..

We can never predict what Apple is going to do, it's pointless. Just sit back, save up and get ready to give them all our money - so easy.

Love you all very mucho..

But does Dell have the demand/numbers the Macs do?

Any manufacturer can order components in the quantity they need. If it was a supply problem, then it would show in the form of customers waiting a little longer for their orders to be fulfilled. Which we've seen before.

But the fact is, Apple didn't even try to adopt sky lake. And is unlikely to produce Kaby Lake systems anytime soon.

Apple is simply sitting back and churning out 3 year old computers and hoping nobody asks what's inside that shiny case with the Apple logo on it.

The issue is we don't know the constraints Apple has, do we? I mean, we all want an updated Mac, but No one here can ultimately determine the hold up. I wish I knew. It's all speculation until it actually happens unfortunately. Maybe in six weeks we will know at the September Key note.

We'll find out soon enough if Apple will miss out on Kaby Lake too.

That's a valid point. I was just telling another forum member, maybe in six weeks we will know more. Until then, we can only can speculate. And we will truly never know why Apple has not released a refreshed line up. I personally think they will continue to push the iPad Pro and Mac Air line up, at least for the time being.

iPad has never been for work. It's a thing for playing. No mouse support = no precision work.

And the keyboard stand is terrible. One angle only... And the keys :-O And ... Only in an english version. No Apple - iPad can NOT replace a computer as long as iOS is as it is...

For a great many people the iPad and iPad Pro line really CAN replace a desktop or laptop computer. Often they are used only for browsing, online shopping, social media, email and writing simple documents. Excel and Word are available on iPad and are pretty good for most use cases.

However, it cannot run Xcode, Logic or FCP as three simple examples of common programs. For many in the media industry, be it audio, film, photography or digital art, the iPad Pro is a complimentary tool and not a replacement for Mac.

Apple is not getting the point with the iPad. People wants iPad to be a computer but it's not. People want full photoshop, full illustrator, full apps for a complete work. They want replace their MacBook with the iPad. The cursor is not more a problem because the pencil is way more precise and can work with full apps, even with little menus... Why can the MacBook 12 run full apps and the iPad Pro not? What's the difference?
Apple is putting marketing on the frontline, they want to continue selling MacBook and are trying to find out a excuse to buy a iPad but hey, people don't want to carry a lot of computers every day.

In fairness, Intel has been delayed with their processors, which ultimately will hold the Macs from being updated. This has been an ongoing problem for while, sounds like this issue may be resolved. I guess we will find out.
Not exactly. If you build a PC, you can choose Intel processors that outperform Apple choices, but then, if Apple wants thin computers, it's obvious that Mac and i-toys will converge into the same product. I'm just going to build a $3000 Pascal Titan based Linux box because I don't have any alternative from Apple.

For me, a tablet is a retrogressive ergonomic mess: it won't balance on your lap; the screen gets dirty with fingermarks; touching the screen unbalances it; selecting and moving text is slow and cumbersome; etc, etc, etc.

I don't mind ARM or an OS based on iOS, but I do want the rigidity and stability of a laptop form factor; trackpad input; and a clean screen.

I understand that Apple wants to bring people into the iOS/ARM world, but I don't see the advantage of hamstrung form factors that are unstable, get dirty, and physically tiring to use.

I do have and use an iPad, but without a MBP, I would see no reason to keep using Apple's products and services.

**The Mac range** is what makes Apple unique.

Here is the funny part .... How many users , home users have bought scanners, printers , speakers etc etc that were connected to thier computers , all through that simple USB interface, all at once.

If you throw out the "computer" and get an iPad Pro you need to replace everthing your own with new hardware that has wireless support , and damn you are going to have to know what you are doing to set a wireless home setup .....

Sorry a desktop or laptop at home is a far simpler solution, also using office and multitasking on an iPad Pro compared to a computer wants me to throw the damn thing across the room.

What it is great for is the mind numbing tasks like browsing online, and content consumption , pics and media. Even browsing is painful at times when you are presented with mobile versions of sites.

Simple fact, things just work with a computer , and an iPad Pro is now way simpler , it's is though a lot more profitable for Apple .

As iPad hardware/software beefs up, I can see my Mac dwindling even further.
What are you talking about? Speaking of cars and trucks, what is the form factor of an i5 surface going to look like in 5 years. Dont worry candycrushers--ios has you covered

Didn't Apple say the A9X was a desktop class processor? If that is the case why won't they give us a desktop class OS on the iPad Pro?
Because it's not a desktop. Putting macOs on it is terrible. If you look at the surface pro, no one actually uses it like a tablet because it has a desktop based os.

I believe the better solution is for Apple to port their pro apps to iOS. Fully optimized for touch.

The way I see it, think of the person who you are constantly helping with thier computer needs, say printing, scanning, downloading media from thier holidays, running old software their have a need for.....

Now would getting them iPad Pro, make thier life easier.....it would be hell, to try to teach them how to do all those tasks without a computer, some would be impossible .

A computer is not an iPad with a expansive keyboard ..... As Apple would like is to believe.

Heck, my Apple Watch is a "desktop replacement" I can painfully do many things on it that I can do on a computer ....

I can also use a screwdriver as hammer, but nothing beats the best tool for a job. Release updated notebooks Apple and stop being greedy.

The best replacement for a laptop is the Microsoft surface range , cause its initiative for the user , running a full OS, and if they plug in a mouse and KB , nothing changes. Unplug the KB and mouse and they have a notepad . The surface is a good computer that is an okay notepad, the iPad Pro is a great notepad, and an awful computer.

Can it run a compiler? Can it run any professional CAD or 3D suite at all? Does it have a filesystem? Is it fully functional without a cloud service? No, no, no, and no. So I'm sorry but this is not a computer.
But apple is about computers for the rest of us, and if you took the design and code communities out of the picture--your still competing for maybe 80% of the market.

I disagree that USB printers and scanners are simpler to connect. I remember a great number of occasions fiddling with drivers and swapping ports to try to get printers and scanners to work. My printer at home... which is currently refusing to work with Windows 10 wired OR wirelessly, lets me airprint from my iPad 2 without any installing of software.

why can't I have a 30/70 split on my iPad when using two apps? Why must it be 50/50 or 70/30?
Less options makes iPad iOS more stable and simple especially for this case when there would be 0 new value from this option.
I understand sometimes you want to switch between 70/30 to 30/70 but I recommend you to use 50/50 instead, there's big chance you will want to switch again.

Ok. But my point was that those single task DOS computers were considered computers. So ability to multitask isn't essential for a computer.

Computers didn't have screens, storage and mouse/keyboards too. So ability to do these things isn't essential for a computer either, right?

There's no denying it's a computer, but is it a more useful computer than a regular desktop or laptop?

That can depend on the use cases, but for most people, the answer is no.

But what do must people do on the iPad? Or on the laptop? PC? I know many people who used to buy laptops or PC just to do emails, web browsing and stuff like this, who now either have just smartphone or a tablet. I can't imagine majority of people using Adobe programs and power hungry video editing programs!! I use final cut pro x, and Adobe aftereffects & Photoshop therefore just have an iPad mini and iMac at the moment but I have the feeling I don't fall on the majority.

"Just when you think you know what a computer is, you see a keyboard that can just get out of the way. And a screen you can touch... and even write on. When you see a computer that can do all that, it might just make you wonder hey, what else can it do?"

but noooo.. we refuse to bring touchscreen to Macs..

Apple, we need proper filing system before i ever even consider getting rid my computer

i agree, there is no reason why apple cannot just put and iPad pro screen with all its touch system in a macbook, i mean ive had my macbook pro since 5 years ago and I'm still not impressed! they can do a lot better than this!

I believe the better solution is for Apple to port their pro apps to iOS. Fully optimized for touch.

Well, what about Adobe Creative Suite, for instance? I work on a 27" Retina screen, use a mouse for precision input and am able to sit a distance from my screen, with my keyboard and mouse within easy reach, sitting in a position that's comfortable to me. I don't want to be hunched over a 12" screen (I've even opted for a 15" MacBook Pro due to its extra screen size over the smaller Apple laptops) that I can't even use on my lap; I don't want to have to type whilst holding an Apple Pencil (picking it up and putting it down on a regular basis wouldn't be condusive to a balanced workflow) and I want a structured OS that doesn't rely on the Cloud and lacks a desktop-style filing system that, as a Mac-based Professional, I've been used to ever since I started using 'a computer'. I'm afraid it can't replace 'MY computer'. And, as some have previously mentioned, if Apple are going to adopt this marketing strategy, and people fall for it, then in the initial we'll be waving goodbye to the MacBook Air and then incrementally, the more useful Macs will start to disappear as time and tech move on. In no way am I convinced that this is a viable proposition and, what's more, if the current lack of Mac updates is in any way close to being a by-product of this thinking, Apple may well have cut their own throat. Here's hoping otherwise...

People, calm down. Yes there's been a while MacBook Pro and Mac Pro got an update. This ad has nothing to do with this.

If you think about things like cursor, second screen, file system and etc. you are clearly can't use iPad as your only computer. It doesn't mean something wrong with iPad. It doesn't mean it need to be transformed into Mac.

There's many users out there who never used a PC and they don't even think about files and windows, for them it some technical term that makes their iPad work. Like for us binary language. Many young people out there who don't evan own a Mac and they doing everyone on there iPhone. When I showed to some people how Multitasking works on iPad they are surprised and they call this very useful. For this people and theres going to be more of them, iPad is not limiting but empowering. This ad is not for you it is for them.

I am software developer and iPad is my primary computer at home. Only thing I use Mac is Xcode.
