Apple ads have been so ****** over the past few years. The people behind the ads need to be replaced.
I know people will disagree, but I think the last great Apple ads were the "I'm a Mac" ones.

They showed what Macs could do, while being funny.

But, they probably couldn't make ads like that today.

The US versions for sure.

The UK ones were terrible.

For me, it's the lack of apps. If there was After Effects, Toon Boom, etc for iPad, I might be interested. Right now, it's just not the right tool for what I need.

Yeah. This sounds about right. The issue is that we have millions of useless apps and those handful of essential apps that we must have are missing. For me, it's an IDE. For you, it's graphics related apps.

If they put the right tools on the iPad to actually make it realistic to build an entire app on it without any other machine, then developers could do the rest and build out those essential apps.

Embedded systems - After they are programmed they are read only

That's not what an embedded system is.

An embedded system is a computer system with a dedicated function within a larger mechanical or electrical system, often with real-time computing constraints. It is embedded as part of a complete device often including hardware and mechanical parts. Embedded systems control many devices in common use today.

Like having a file system and running programs? Also the keyboard is still only available in a US format, what is with that? Useless.

Moral of the story.....the iPad Pro can do about 90 percent of what 90 percent of people want to do daily

Maybe as a junior high school student, pink collar worker, retiree, etc. For everyone else an iPad only does 10% of what a computer can do 90% of the time. For the remaining 10% of the time when they don't need a computer they can use their smartphone. iPad is a redundant luxury with limited usability.

For the many trolls on here that don't seem to "get" the iPad or how it can be a primary device or arguing what a "computer" is. I'll remind you that in many parts of the world (yes they exist), people's ONLY computing device is their smart phone. And its working out just fine.

For those who want to keep in touch with friends, browse the web, watch some video, listen to music......basically not NERDING OUT......an iPad is perfect. Why spend $1300+ when you can spend much less for the same things so many average people just want to use it for.

The reason why iPad sales (and all tablet sales in general) are down is precisely because an iPhone can handle all the casual use you just mentioned. No need to spend additional $700+ when you have all you need in your pocket.

When you listen to Google propaganda aka YouTube.
This dongle will look even better when we get its brother (lightning to 3.5mm headphone jack).

For now, the iPad will not replace your desktop but the Surface pro is a whole computer in a tablet. That would be my device of choice.

I agree, and in fact that's where my money will go very soon. Not only it's an amazing piece of software (I played with it for an hour at the Microsoft Store and I loved it), but the 2-in-1 factor is sexy as heck! I hope going back to Windows won't drive me nuts...

True for some. But many of us want a much larger screen to do things like watch YouTube, edit photos, play games, brows the web/news app. Its just much better on iPad for those who can afford it.

Ok, can I run my Linux virtual machine on it...? No
Can I run a Windows virtual machine on it...? No
Can I write code on it...? No
Can I install ruby on it...? No
Can I access the terminal...? No
Can I connect my Thunderbolt equipped audio interface to it...? No
Can I install my audio plugins or run my software instruments on it...? No
Can I run Logic Pro X on it...? No
Can I plug a Blu-ray drive into it...? No
Can I install handbrake on it...? No
Can I rip my films to iTunes format on it...? No
Can I plug my external hard-drive into it...? No
Can I plug my microSD card into it and edit my video in Final Cut Pro X...? No
Can I charge my USB device plugged into one of the ports...? No
Can I drive multiple displays with it...? No
Can I run Steam on it, to play my games...? No
Can I plug my game controller into it...? No

So, it's not a computer then is it Apple?

Theres more than enough apps for working with audio and video. You can connect Ethernet and SD card with an adapter. Why you want to run Steam when App Store has amazing collection of not expensive and creative games optimised for touch and Retina resolution? You also can connect wireless game controller. There's no need to waste time converting movies when you can use Netflix and iTunes. Blue Ray is not needed with digital distribution. Wait for it to catch up with 4K and Blue Ray will be no longer relevant. You can access your external files through SSH or FTP using Transmit app.

Wow, they're really trolling us now, aren't they?

All I want is a space gray rMBP with a decent graphics card. Is that too much to ask?

Really? Just because it can't do those specific things you're going to argue it isn't a computer? Are you serious?

Ok at this point I'm definitely starting to fear for the Mac.

The Mac is not going anywhere. Until the iPad can run a desktop-class OS that supports virtualization, it can't replace my MacBook Pro. If Apple abandons the Mac for some strange reason, I won't be able to suddenly transition the work I do on my Mac to the iPad. I'll just have to buy a PC -- and I don't think Apple wants me to do that. Also, I suspect that they'd much rather sell me a $2,500 MacBook Pro than an $800 iPad (assuming they can't sell me both).

Help me figure out what most people do that the iPad is lacking 90% of.

Interesting fact there. Considering myself, girlfriend and buddy all use iPads as our home "computing devices". We are all working professionals and enjoy the simplicity of the iPad to text, browse, use split screen, watch video etc.

So while not everyones close circle is the same. I'm using it as example of the iPad doing 99 percent of what we need daily outside of work.

iPad Pro has larger screen and greater speakers and Pencil. Big screen is not just big screen it enables new kind of activities like Multitasking and drawing is only possible on large canvas. Plus it has superior battery life and amazing keyboard.

But iPad have had keyboards and styli since it's inception. Sure it might be a better surface to work with but going by this thread, 90% of the things people do on an iPad are minimal tasks that could be achieved on any iPad.

If the iPad Pro was sold as a Pro device - include the keyboard at least, with a Pro range of Apps and a Pro iOS skin to make use of all these wonderful advances in tech then it might be a contender.

But they already made most of your selling points pointless by releasing the iPad Pro mini.

It's this half assed approach that really bothers me. If it'd been don't right then I'd have bought one. I was waiting for this device since the iPad was released.
