Thank you Apple for producing this ad to allow us to sit back and watch all the whiners come out in full force telling us it's not a real computer.

Well played, Apple, well played.

Macs are trucks. iPads are cars. There will always been a need for trucks, but it's overkill and inefficient for the mainstream. Plain and simple. Don't fight it.

I plan on my late 2013 MacBook Air lasting me for at least another 4+ years... But will this be my last Mac? Maybe. Probably. As it is now I do 75% of my computing on my iPhone and the last 25% is split between Mac and iPad. As iPad hardware/software beefs up, I can see my Mac dwindling even further.

A keyboard that gets out of the way... A screeen you can touch and even write on. Hmm, I cant think of any real computer that can do that

Welcome to 2012.

You mean a keyboard you can get away, but you need it all the time, because applications were designed for keyboards, and a useless touchscreen, because applications were designed for mouse input, and touch targets were too small, and none of the advantages like the battery life, noise, heat, mobile apps, etc? Together with the poorest keyboard in the world, and smallest and dinkyiest trackpad ever, and it's not even cheap, and the OS is disgusting, with failed updates that get the whole computer stuck when you need it, and forced updates!?

You just described a Surface perfectly.

That's it. I'm done with this company. We want a great smartphone, instead they give us an iPhone that's thinner instead of thicker and heavier with a huge battery. We want widgets and other cool Android features, instead they give us 3D Touch. I dare anyone here to tell us why 3D Touch is a useful innovation. I mean, supposedly rivals slavishly copy everything Apple does, yet we haven't seen anyone ripoff 3D Touch. That's telling. Instead of focusing on OLEDs, they focus on stupid input method. Why would anyone want UI to be pressure sensitive?

I would never would have imagined that Apple would neglect the Mac so they can peddle the stupid Apple Watch, plus bands. I don't need to track my health because I don't care. Nobody cares, Apple. Nobody. It's in fact pretentious to think that you can take technology and cobble it together into some personal device that would give individuals more attention over their own health. But the Apple Watch is doomed. Sales are embarrassing. The only people I've seen wearing these stupid watches have been really weird-looking people. So it's over. Good riddance.

But this iPad thing. I will never ever change my opinion. Just like how I thought the iPod was stupid, and was eventually proven right since Apple stopped making them. Ever since 2010, my feeling was that it's just a big iPod touch that does nothing useful and today, it is still a big iPod touch that does nothing useful. Even the name is stupid. MaxiPad, remember? Instead of killing off the stupid iPad, which is just a big iPod touch, they continue to "innovate" this crap when they should be pouring all of their efforts into real computers: the Mac—which, let's be honest, has barely been a computer ever since Microsoft released the Surface and Windows 8.

I'm afraid to admit it, but have to nonetheless. The Mac is now just a relic. Such a shame. It symbolizes a happier time where REAL computers were for REAL people.

Sorry, on reflection my comment did come across as a bit smarmy. I didn't mean that as a direct jab at you or anybody else here.

It's just that with all this talk in this thread about Logic Pro, Final Cut – these Pro applications used by people for their livelihood, and used on the OS X platform for good reason – it's understandable that some people might take it a little personally when the latest Apple advert suggests an iPad is an appropriate laptop replacement.

Especially when considering the lack of updates; or at the very least, price dropping if there isn't newer hardware that they can justify putting in an updated Mac.

No worries. That was kind of the point of my post, though. iPad Pro can be a laptop replacement for someone. Just not you...or apparently anyone else in this thread.

I get it though. I've been waiting for MacBook Pro refresh for forever too, my MBP is a mid-2009 model!

Nobody's saying it's not a real computer.

Most people are saying it can't replace their Mac. And in that they're absolutely right.

For what MOST people do on their Mac or PC an iPad Pro can most definitely replace it. Unless you think most people run Logic Pro, Xcode, Photoshop or equivalent software.

Yeah you're absolutely right. Nobody can doubt that an iPad is a replacement computer for many people. For others, it wouldn't be.

As Jobs once said (and as others mentioned in this thread) – the computer is a truck. No car will ever replace a truck, as a truck is specialised and does what it does best. It won't sell as many units as a car (iPad), but it'll do what it needs to do better than any other vehicle.

Don't let the door hit you.

Sadly, unless Apple has some hidden gems coming up, they are abandoning the TRUE "pro" market in favor of mass consumption of average products component wise. Business wise it makes sense. Why spend R&D dollars on innovation when the masses don't care about having the latest specs? Apple fanboys are not the masses therefore they get no respect I tell ya!

I managed to build an entire website (the OS X Hackers site) with my iPad Air 2 and edit quite a few pics so it has some potential to give my MacBook a break. It already took it's spot for note taking in some of my classes as well. People here are really undervaluing the great developers that make these tablets stand out.
I still need the iCloud Drive app to get a few updates like selecting exactly what remains downloaded on the device or not like Apple Music and Photos does. I'll be golden then.

"Imagine what your computer could do if your computer was an iPad Pro,"

The answer is:
"About 2/3's less than my macbook pro"

And about 2/3rds more than your MBP. Using a Mac is now frustrating for me because of its limitations now that I have adjusted my workflow for iPad. An iPad can do so much more than a Mac...and so much less. Neither can do everything.

Why is Apple showing an ad for the Surface Pro? Not only that, it's an ad the Surface was using 2 years ago. When you think about it, it's appropriate. Apple is hugely eco-conscious so recycling an old Surface ad fits that ideology.:p:Do_O:cool:

Next ad, random break dancing millennials running around holding the iPP by a charging Pencil while lip syncing L'il Wayne's "Lollipop".

Wish: Where's Anger Danger when I need an image of a lollipop shopped onto an iPP with the Pencil sticking out of the side of it's neck... or butt.:D

edit: Ars Technica had the same idea. http://arstechnica.com/apple/2016/08/apple-makes-a-really-good-ad-for-microsofts-surface-pro/

I don't know what IPP can do..but I know mac pro will punch ipp in the groin.

Anyway...this tells me few things
1) ipp 12.9 ain't going nowhere...meaning..you can buy it now...(for those who keep asking 'is it okay to buy now')
2) Bye bye macs?
3) Apple is going through crisis.

Macs are trucks. iPads are cars.

No, Mac is a truck or a car (or a bike), built for whatever is your need or wherever you want to go. There's a hole in the pavement? You can use the steering wheel and continue your trip.

iPad's a commuter train. You follow the track Apple put you into and it takes you to the station it promises... but you can't go anywhere else. If the track is broken, your voyage ends there.
