Seems like this is going to be how Apple gets accurate blood pressure monitoring in the Health app. As for whether they are copying the market, Apple first started filing ring patents the same year as the Oura was on Kickstarter; so they were probably playing around with the idea before then.

If they can do all the health data and payment stuff on a wearable device that lasts for a week on a charge, I would absolutely go this route instead of a watch that needs to be charged daily.

Will Apple design their own hardware, or will they buy Oura?

Apple watch do enough for humans...no need for a garbage ring...remember, for men the watch is the only "jewelry" allowed
That really depends on where you live, but in most countries at least one ring (wedding) is socially acceptable. It won’t take long for Apple, Samsung, and third party ring companies to make wearing a second ring fairly commonplace.

Add notifications and text messages that scroll banner style around the ring on a thin OLED and I'm in . Better yet, Game Center for the 128x9 ratio screen in the center of the ring band!

Nope nope nope nope nope nope.

I have a hard enough time wearing a watch. I cannot wear rings. They become incredibly uncomfortable within seconds. I don't understand how people can do it.

Hard no on this.

It sounds ok in theory, I wonder what the practical battery life is as well as the data range. Maybe a touch id sensor to use Apple Pay? But again i prefer a watch. I can sleep like a baby wearing my watch but i know thats not the case for everyone.

Wow that is a horrible freak accident. Thankfully rare I am sure. I don’t usually wear rings because i am afraid of my fingers being swollen for whatever reason and it getting stuck. I would be tempted by this ring though.
I know five people who have lost fingers (in part or whole) in accidents like that.

I don't think it's accurate to call it a "freak accident" given how common such accidents are. Fingers aren't held on all that well - they come off fairly easily. If you interact with machines that involve squeezing or spinning in close proximity to fingers, you're just one sloppy mistake from losing a finger (and rings increase the odds of such an accident occurring - that's just some extra metal that's already wrapped around your finger and ready to yank it off once it's integrated with the machinery.)

I don't see the point in it and I hate rings so I'll never buy one.

The watch is more than enough for me. It's an extension of my phone for notifications, reminders, controlling media, and tracking workouts and I can use it to quickly pay for things. I was never really a watch person but I feel lost with my Apple Watch now.

Apple will need to do something very exciting. Rings are boring. Maybe if they make me live longer, turn me invisible, and understand evil languages then it might be worth considering.

I find these rings pointless, cost as much as a smart watch, try to sell them on the premises of luxury metals, yet with a minuscule battery that will die after 2 or 3 years, but I guess you can wear it as a piece of jewellery then. Still not impressed if Apple just copies the market here.
Where are you buying your ring? As much as a smart watch. Hyperbole much? my battery died in my Oura ring. They sent a replacement. Customer service is not that hard.

100%

This is why jewellery, neck ties and long sleeves are frowned upon in machine tool environments. I once witnessed the immediate aftermath of a man who was dragged into a milling machine by the long sleeve of his shirt. It was like something out of a horror movie. He lost his arm. And a lot of blood 🤮

Interesting… but then I’d have to wear my wedding ring and that one is soooooo heavy.

Considering hundreds of millions of people currently wear rings without having their fingers cut off, I think it is safe to call it a rare freak accident. Doesn't make it any less terrible though.

I'm not going to bother debating you on this though. There's no way you know 5 people who have lost fingers that way so you're already debating in bad faith.

Have a good day, sir or madam.

@Jim Lahey thanks for the thumbs down, I appreciate the feedback.

I do wonder what their software strategy is... they don't seem overly fussed. It would be great to see a big re-launch of Apple Music, for it not to just be a sea of unused white space with tiny text, for it to not feel like a web-window (which his what is is really). For it to be a centre-piece of the apple experience (like when cover-flow was pushed).
Cover-flow was great, I miss it. Apple could create some really cool experiences using cover-flow in Vision Pro...

You could call it rare but it’s no freak accident. If you wear appendages in those environments you’re playing with fire and should expect to come undone eventually 👍

It’s a simple disagreement based on first hand experience and thirty years working in mechanical engineering and manufacturing. It’s not a freak occurrence. It’s rare but not unexpected. Kind of like most accidents. No need to take it personally 👍

Mr. Lahey,

Since you decided to push yourself into a conversation between two others, I'll respond to this.

The word "freak" in "freak accident" implies rare. Google it as the kids say if you don't believe me.

Sincerely,
Mr. Fan.

yeah, I doubt it. But if they make one, the size of Oura, with features of Woop, I would get it! Since my watch died, I don't feel tempted to get another watch. It is just too tiring to charge it everyday. But ring would be awesome for sleep tracking.

I wonder how often the ring would need to be charged. Oura is 3-4 days I think.

Wow that’s some ego. I meant no offence and was simply in disagreement. But let’s not fall out over it.

In summary, a freak accident implies something so out of the ordinary that no one could ever have seen it coming. In fact the opposite is true and that is exactly why these rules exist in those environments. That’s the last I’ll say on the matter because frankly it’s way off topic.

Would you buy if Apple released this concept? 😂
