I think the range of the Apple Pencil is phenomenal. Sometimes I'll be sitting on the couch 100 ft away and I'll still get "Battery Low" reminders from the living drawer I left it in two weeks ago.

Art on iPad Pro with Apple Pencil:

I don't understand why they don't do a decent ad which showcases the kind of creative work (drawing, painting etc) that can be done with the iPad Pro and Pencil. Just look at the thread with people sharing their work and it is impressive.

It could be like the shot on iPhone campaign.

Pro Tip: Your employer knows you're on job search sites and can quite possibly decrypt your SSL traffic traversing their network. Better go with the LTE iPad.

What was that saying again?

Skate to where you think the puck will be, not where it currently is?
Except that the puck is nowhere near iPads as has been evident for the last few years. The iPad (read: tablet) market has been in decline with the iPad plummeting faster than a New Jersey mob victim in cement shoes:

Yet Tim still stubbornly believes that the iPad is going to magically bounce back. There's a difference between skating to where the puck is going to be and stubbornly claiming that your ship is unsinkable after having smashed into an iceberg.

if you have school age kids, many of their assignments are still required to be turned in on paper. There are also old college teachers that still want assignments on paper.

I was making fun of one of Tim Cook's ipad presentations when he questioned why anyone would buy a PC anymore.

Not a crazy fan of the acting, or the premise... but I am liking the callback stylistically to the I'm a Mac ads.

For years I've been "printing" to PDFs and reading in my iPad.

I hardly print anything. Last time I bought printer ink was a couple of years ago. I think.

I stopped buying printer ink nearly a decade ago. My printer read a code on the ink cartridges, and refused to print if the ink was "too old." For the small amount of printing I did, the ink turned out to be incredibly expensive.

I didn't even print at work. For my last job (over five years), I never even connected my computer to a printer on the network.

It isn't just me. Over those five years I noticed other people were printing less as well. The boxes of records I remember seeing stacked in hallways to be carted off to archive storage and recycling largely disappeared. My previous job (a consulting gig at an industrial site in Hereford, UK), I saw entire multi-story buildings which used to be for the processing and storage of paper records. Now they are rented out to other businesses.

I worked in the 90s when the term "paperless office" was tossed around a lot, but the combination of low-resolution screens that were no fun to read and the easy access to laser printers meant that paper use was actually skyrocketing. I printed emails that I wanted to save. I printed sections of technical manuals. I attended meetings where every participant had a printed agenda that went right into the trash or recycling at the end of the meeting.

I've definitely seen a reduction in the amount of paper frivolously wasted in offices (and at home) over the past 25 years.

I don't know what Tim "stubbornly believes", but in terms of unit sales, iPad sales are close to double Mac sales.

Apple sold 13.081 million iPads in Q1 2017
Apple sold 5.374 million Macs in Q1 2017

Is it any wonder that the Mac Pro is not a high priority? How likely is it that Mac unit sales will magically catch up to iPad sales?

I love these ads. Funny and I think they sell the value proposition well.

This. For every Mac sold, Apple sells roughly 2 iPads and 10 iPhones, or 12 iOS devices. Is it any wonder why Apple's priorities are what they are?

And since the iPad shares the same code base, interface and apps as the iPhone, makes sense that it would be easier for Apple to push for the iPad over the Mac.

Lol, Apple isn't pushing in any category. It would have taken them minimal efforts getting their inner parts of computers up to date to today's standards. If you neglect a product for a long time, are you surprised it won't sell in big numbers? You can only charge above premium prizes if your product is better, technologically more advanced and has to offer more than your competitors. What company can sell 4 year old technology like it was new? Chinese people are very technological driven and you only have to look at china how the iPhone is doing. Huawei for example is selling here too. It came from nowhere to the number one spot of best selling phones in only a few years. People who think they're cheap and crap phones are so wrong. Gone are the days Apple can have those exorbitant big margins on phones if they want to stay relevant in mobile phones and if Apple is staying on the same course it's doing now it's only justified.

But I wonder how much cause and effect comes into that difference. Whilst I agree that Mac sales will probably always be lower than iPad sales, you could infer that Mac sales are that low because Apple has been neglecting their computer line-up over recent years. I'm only one person but I certainly would have replaced my Mac Pro with a new one last year if the current model was anywhere near up-to-date or better value for money.

That's what happens when you lamentate a market, instead of driving it.
Selling 5 yr old cars at new prices could be even worse (with only ludicrous turds blaming soft markets)
The ad depicts the mental state of Apple's workforce:
With that much talent and so little accomplishments many employees must be looking elsewhere.
Imagine working there and getting all your designs rejected except for 1 in the 4 years - which doesn't become a success due to its crazy restrictions.
Must be maddening to spoil your time in Bezel-land...where the futuristic debates are about USB-C vs. dongles and find my toothbrush...

iPad means not only post-PC but also post-PRINT era now. The lack of basic features is an advantage for smart marketing guys.

But the point here is that Apple is trying.

Look at the MacBook Pro. It has the touchbar, Touch ID sensor, sports a larger trackpad, butterfly keyboard, an array of thunderbolt 3-equipped USB-C ports, and is thinner and lighter to boot. Even MagSafe and the glowing Apple logo is gone.

In short, every aspect of the MacBook Pro has been overhauled, using the latest tech Apple had access to at the time.

Does this look like a company who doesn't care?

Like you said, Apple could have simply done a simple spec upgrade and call it a day. They didn't. That ought to say something.

Is this the same Huawei we are talking about here?

To the people saying that it can't be done by Apple, let me quote Casey Neistat.

"Watch."

"Watch, as Apple continues its inexorable ascent all the way to the top, and learn."
