How does this explain leaving the old iPad Pro at the EXACT same price after releasing an update 16 months later? I love apple, but between the MacBook Pro, iPhone, and iPad price increases it does seem to be a money grab.

I was holding out hoping for a new iMac.... Considering the only updated option is a Mac mini for $799 with an i3 or $1099 with an i5-8500 I am considering switching over to a windows pc.

I mean I can get a windows gaming laptop with a 6 core 8300h for $800. I am very surprised by Apple's prices

It seems that Apple is pushing the pricing brackets for everything through the roof on purpose.

iPhones were $649-$949
Macs were $999+
iPads were $499

Now iPhones are $999+
Macs are $1,199+
iPads are $799+

I am an apple fan but damn the new prices made me rethink my new purchases
Same here. I agree they make the best products out there. I just am not going to continue the price they ask for their products. It’s not cause I cannot afford it. It’s just out of principle. I just am not going to do it. I’m sure others will be more than happy to pay what they are asking. That’s ok. To each their own.

Apple sells iPhones, iPads and Macs below the starting prices you claim.

Of course if you want the best flagship devices with all the latest cutting edge design and technologies, you must be prepared to pay more for it.

I'm quoting the price for the flagship devices.

It is an absolute fact that, in 2016, the flagship, latest-technology iPhone started at $649 and now it's $999.

So you can afford to pay the asking prices but you are going to deprive yourself of the best new products? Sounds a bid weird to me. You are only hurting yourself.

What’s for sure is everybody who bought an iPad 1/2 won’t be buying iPad Pro.

The cheaper IPad probably sells better and people keep IPads longer.

The truth is IPad Pro is a niche and I doubt at the high price tag many will buy one.

Nobody is “price gouging”, unless you are being forced to buy a product.

Gas stations charging $10/gallon or stores selling $20 bottles of water during a hurricane is price gouging. People here need to get a grip. If you think the price of a new iPad is unreasonable, then you are free to purchase a competitor's product at a better price, or simply not buy at all.

iPhones are a lot more advanced than they were and those advancements come at a price in terms of R&D and engineering processes.
The same applies to iPads today.
No flagship Mac has been $999 for as long as I can remember

I like the new iPP but I will wait till I can find a 256gb model (new or refurb) in the price range I deem worthwhile.

It might never happen, in which case I will just get the regular iPad 2019.

The Pro models are probably out of most people's radar. That said, I do hoped they keep the regular iPads at ~$300 and not jack up prices to ~$400-500.

I hardly ever see people with tablets anymore. I think I'm the only idiot who bought one recently.

Honestly I think Apple can shove their Apple pencils up their ****ing ass.
I see tablets but stuff like Amazon kindle have vanished. To be honest I see more smart phones than anything. I remember when the first IPhone X came out I never seen one anywhere other than the phone shop due to its price tag.

I’m no Apple apologist, and I do feel prices are going up too quickly, but at the same time consider that the first iPhone was what, $500 11 years ago? And the first iPad was $500 8 years ago?
Taking into account inflation alone, the price increases over the years are not crazy.

I think the sticker shock is related to the price increases on the premium/pro products in the past 18 months.

I wonder what's the price point that will force people to switch.
I'll admit I can't stand any of Apple's competitors' devices. Literally hate using either Windows or Android. So, realistically, I'll never switch. But I'm using my devices for much longer than I used to. Which, unfortunately, may be part of the reason why Apple is raising their prices. I'm guessing the remaining group of customers who upgrade more often are increasingly less price sensitive. So it's a vicious circle. ;)

I prefer a tablet over any smartphone, no matter how good the latter can be.

However no one has to put up with these stunts anymore. I suggest looking into alternatives such as the Galaxy Tab S4 or similar products. Granted, Apple has good hardware, yet their products are not 100% essential to me (in a way that I couldn't replace them) and boycotting this sort of thing is what I've been doing for a while. They will not listen if we don't do that.

That’s the sad thing they released these products today which appeal to only two people:

1. The rich
2. Apple fans who buy all things apple.

Get people neck-deep into your ecosystem. Charge 20% more for no reason whatsoever if they want to stay in it.

Do you have any explanation for the old iPad price staying at $649?

Because the new Pro is more expensive they feel they can keep the higher mark up price

Actually I think the new Pro could easily be $649, too. And the old iPad Pro could fit a nice price bracket at around $500 where there's nothing.

They're not essential and they're not even that much better.

For all the stuff that dude said, at the end of the day the new iPad has round screen corners, is thinner and that's IT.
