So you're saying the courts that have banned certain products are controlled by Apple ?

I certainly see no significant design conflicts that would justify something as drastic as banning a product like the nexus, so essentially, yes. Albeit not in the outright manner you're insinuating.

As I've said before Apple will feels the vacuum of not having Steve Jobs. Apple has been operating in defense mode ever since. When you can count on the guy who drove your companies creative juices Apple needs to get rolling with new products that competitors haven't jumped on. That was how Steve did things. Now it's all about the rehash of the iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Mac Mini, MBP, iMac etc.

When I see Apple do something that's really cool and do it on a consistent basis I think they will be fine. But I get the bad feeling that the Apple Top Brass really misses what he brought to the company and are doing whatever they can to keep the competition away.

Um...I don't like Tim Cook as the CEO. I think there could have been someone...better

Um...I don't like Tim Cook as the CEO. I think there could have been someone...better

I think Tim Cook is a solid CEO who's brought Apple a lot of it's financial gains in the past. He knows how to wheel and deal with his suppliers and to squeeze them for every last drop. That's what a successful CEO is suppose to do and that is to make the company a profit in the long term.

My main concern for Apple is NOT Tim Cook but who will replace Steve Jobs in bringing in fresh and new ideas. A person that will say, hmm this hasn't been done successfully I think I know how. That's the kind of stuff Steve excelled at. I don't know if Apple has that person.

Now the good news is Apple has about a 4-5 year pipeline of products like most companies do who mfg products. Steve surely put Apple in that position before he passed away. It's after that where i'm concerned.

Maybe Apple is operating in the mode of, we are selling bucket loads of products and when they are ready they will release one of Steve's idea's.

The problem is and it's even here on this forum where you read that iOS feels boring. I think Apple should freshen things up a bit on the iPad UI or OS. I don't think a massive overhaul is required but a fresh coat of paint would be nice since the OS and UI works so well.

Um, a sales clerk would not have this type of information, which would only be available at a very high level within Best Buy.

Complete BS

Ya know if people got that tired of apple bullying the easiest thing would be for every store and cell phone carrier to drop them. Let them wither away in their retail box in isolation. They could use all their money to build their own wireless network but the amount of time that would take would certainly push them to the breaking point.

I just stopped by my local BB and noticed they were still not selling the Nexus 7. I asked a sales clerk why they had no stock and he told me Apple threatened to pull their Apple products if they sold it. That is definitely a sign Apple is worried about the competition for the Apple Mini.

Luckily I purchased the Nexus 7 two weeks ago. Since then I rarely have turned on my new iPad. In fact, the only times I used the iPad was to power it up and note the Apps I had installed and then downloaded the Android versions on my Nexus 7.

The iPad was my first Apple purchase (been a Windows user for > 20 years). If the BB clerk's story is true, that will be the last Apple product I purchase.
I don't believe it for a second. Apple tells Best Buy not to sell the Nexus 7, a relatively low-volume device, while allowing BB to sell all the Samsung phones and tablets they want?

Nonsense.

Besides, it would be very blatantly illegal for Apple to demand this of a retailer.

Would never happen.

Nothing but anti-Apple bias on behalf of a paranoid sales drone.

(and in case you don't think I'm impartial, besides the Apple gear in my sig, I also have a Nexus 7, a Samsung Galaxy Nexus and a Galaxy S3)

ORLY? Apple threatens to pull their products from one of their biggest resellers and we only hear it from some dude in a blue t-shirt. Sounds plausible.

This.

BBY employees don't know anything about the supply chain. I used to work there I know.

You'd hear all kinds of BS floating around the store.

It should also be mentioned that Apple products don't make the retailer squat. Neither do computers, or video games, or DVD's. Those are items to get users into the store to sell warranties, accessories, services and home theater equipment.

If BB really stopped carrying the Nexus, it's more likely because Nexus doesn't sell in large volumes. They'd rather use the space for something that sells well.

If Apple was going to ask for something to be banned, it'd probably be Samsung's products.

False story, but it is true that BB does not carry the Nex7.

Why? Who knows.

No one here knows, you would have to ask Best Buy management.

Having owned a retail tore however, is most likely because they don't sell well..

This doesn't even begin to pass the smell test. If Apple that had that much influence over Best Buy, why is Best Buy selling a multitude of Samsung devices? Indeed, why is Best Buy selling anything other than Apple devices?

Where is the outrage about Amazon not selling either the iPad or the Nexus 7?

Then again I imagine there are more egregious stories and axe grinding on amongst Best Buy employees than there is here.

Apple is utterly dominating the Tablet market and you think they are threatened by Nexus?
The iPad mini will be a runaway success regardless of whether Best Buy stocks and sells Nexus.
End of story.

PS. Best Buy is struggling and faces a major change in their operations. The Apple v Google crap is the least of their worries.

----------

They suck at competing not in the sense that they aren't making money, but in the fact that instead of using innovation as a competing tool, they simply sue and attempt to ban the competition. As a result they can bring products to the market that could be better. And people will buy it.

I love Apple, but you can't deny that all these lawsuits and banning of phones just shows how insecure they are with the competition. Why get they just bring out a kick ass product that would blow Google out of the water? I would love to see Apple do that and I use Android for my phone and tablet.

Do you realize how stupid this reads?

Apple is among the most innovative companies ever! Other companies try to emulate Apple and evidenced by countless "me too" copies including the underpinnings of Android or "borrowing" the form factor of MacBook Air.

I'm willing to bet the sales expectations and margins don't make sense from a business perspective.

Nothing nefarious about it.

Sounds pretty unbelievable to me... If a manager or the ceo of bb would have said it than most likely or definitly correct but the way it is right now... probably not.

I was kind of shocked when i personally was shopping for an n7 and discovered that bb wasnt carrying it. I bought my ipad2 and 3 and an open box macbook pro and some other stuff from bband got some very good deals and their 18 month same as cash payment plan is a no brainer. But i wound up getting my 16gb n7 from the most unlikely place -- radioshack.com. And sent free fedex. Regarding the op, i believe that apple put its foot down with bb. The n7 is a serious tablet and beat apples ipad mini to the marketplace and apples pissed. Bb is in deep financial trouble and apple is a major product for the chain. So they listened when apple layed down the law. Having had the n7 for about a month theres nothing it cant do that the ipad does. For me, its only missing a rear camera. I hope the ipad mini has both cameras. The 7 inch form factor is great though it hasnt replaced my ipad. I bought the n7 mainly because of its power price portability and a desire to go beyond ios. But if the ipad mini has a rear camera i'll get one. I really think that apple will drop the redundant ipod touch as it now stands and make the mini an ipod air at 7 or 8 inches.

I was surprised BB don't carry the N7 but I don't think it competes in the same space as the normal iPad. If there's an iPad mini, sure, but it's more the ereader 7" market. There just too little screen real estate for the N7 to do what an iPad does. Often the N7 apps are just phone apps blown up which isn't necessarily a bad thing but it would look way whacked out on an iPad.

Pro-Tip:

Sales associates don't know a ****ing thing about how the stock works or about how the vender deals are made. ESPECIALLY AT BEST BUY!

The N7 is being sold at such a low price there would be no profit for BB.

I think this is partially true, but part of the problem would be that Google would have to either subsidize the N7 for Best Buy so they CAN make a profit, or Google would have to raise the price of the N7 in Best Buy.

If the iPad mini sells for $199, I guess they won't sell it according to that logic. BB can make a little profit on the protection/upgrade plans. Plus they sell tablet cases and pens and a high markup.

They also sell the Kindle Fire and a number of < $200 tablet/readers. The Nexus 7 is the hottest selling Android tablet right now. The more I think about it, the more I believe the sales associate's story.

What if I told you that Best Buy is not selling the Nexus 7 because Amazon has strong-armed them over the Kindle Fire?
