What if I told you that Best Buy is not selling the Nexus 7 because Amazon has strong-armed them over the Kindle Fire?

I don't think the profit from the Kindle Fire can be an effective strong-arm tactic against BB. However, the Apple margin is a different story.

Besides, Amazon allows companies to sell the Nexus 7 in their store.

Yes, it's truly discouraging. I've been a loyal Apple customer (but not a fanboy) for a very long time. I've bought loads of laptops, and other gear from them. They were once a great company that appreciated customers, responded to feedback and copied others as well. It's a part of doing business.

But today they've become out of control with their posturing, launching law suites, and just acting like a bully. It's out of character and it simply doesn't need to be this way.

Apple is acting as though they are scraping by.

They're certainly not acting as the successful uber rich company they are.

You guys are hilarious.

If the iPad mini sells for $199, I guess they won't sell it according to that logic. BB can make a little profit on the protection/upgrade plans. Plus they sell tablet cases and pens and a high markup.

They also sell the Kindle Fire and a number of < $200 tablet/readers. The Nexus 7 is the hottest selling Android tablet right now. The more I think about it, the more I believe the sales associate's story.

There will not be a 200 iPad mini. The fire and those other readers are lower spec than the N7. That's why they can sell them and still make a profit. BB doesn't have to carry the N7 to sell N7 accessories.

Just picked up a 2nd Nexus 7. Micro Center has them in stock.
But MicroCenters have big Mac sections compared to BB. according to the conspiracy folks Apple wouldn't allow it.

Micro Center has 22 stores in the US; Best Buy has > 1,100. Those few stores won't take too much of the Apple Mini market share. However, Apple is hurting Nexus 7 sales big time by not letting BB sell them.

There is still no evidence that this is the case (not that the fandroids need any). The word of some shelf stacker is not enough.

You need to have proof beyond what some salesperson thinks before stating that it is true.

I highly doubt that Apple or Best Buy corporations would make a public statement that they made a back-room deal not sell a product that seriously competes with the Apple Mini.

Having said that, I would like to see Best Buy make a statement why they are not selling what is arguably the best Android tablet that is in high demand (Micro Center staff member said they were selling briskly). Of course if you have an anti-Android bias you probably won't believe that salesperson either.

I work there, you are simply wrong. They can't manufacture enough of the 7's to get the bulk order Best Buy would need to supply its inventory.

I just stopped by my local BB and noticed they were still not selling the Nexus 7. I asked a sales clerk why they had no stock and he told me Apple threatened to pull their Apple products if they sold it. That is definitely a sign Apple is worried about the competition for the Apple Mini.

Luckily I purchased the Nexus 7 two weeks ago. Since then I rarely have turned on my new iPad. In fact, the only times I used the iPad was to power it up and note the Apps I had installed and then downloaded the Android versions on my Nexus 7.

The iPad was my first Apple purchase (been a Windows user for > 20 years). If the BB clerk's story is true, that will be the last Apple product I purchase.
1. Store personnel have no control or knowledge of what happens at the corporate level, in sales agreements.

2. Apple would be in as much **** as Intel or Microsoft have been in the past for trying to push such an agreement.

Total farce.

So now we need to take the word of a BB employee and a MC one? Come on man.

Once Best Buy starts selling the Nexus 7, we can put this rumor to rest and chalk it up to an uniformed salesperson.

Our Best Buy is next door to a Staples which has been advertising the 7.

Curious that Staples, who has ~ 1,600 stores in the US, has stock.

LOL. There is no rumor. There is only an uninformed BB salesperson and an uninformed thread started by you.

Pretty sure I can get an N7 today from BB if I were in the market.

Could you check? I'm surprised no one on this thread has checked their local BB for stock, and if they had none, asked the sales clerk/manager why? It would be interesting to see if there is any reoccurring explanation.

Our equivalent to Best Buy in Australia, JB Hi Fi (they aren't in any way related to Best Buy, they're a completely independent Australian retailer, they just fill the same niche), sells the Nexus 7, so it's interesting that Best Buy doesn't. My local one advertises it on the front of their store- I tried to buy mine from them but they'd sold out. The salesperson I spoke to said they sell out of every shipment they get within a few days. I ended up getting mine from Bing Lee, who said they don't advertise the Nexus heavily as people keep coming in and getting disappointed when they don't have any. I was lucky, I got the last unit of the most recent shipment.

Like I've been saying, I ****ing work there. You just don't listen to the truth when its told to you.
