So the sports tab in News has the UCL but the literal Sport app doesn’t? Frustrating.

I like the idea of this app though- I hope Apple plans to flesh it out some more with its foray into sports in recent years. I always find other sports apps overly busy and cluttered so if they can make a clean, simple and sleek one I’ll be happy.

I’m in Canada. No NFL or CFL listing. Weird.
Makes sense for now with both of those leagues being out of season

With things like those leagues and others being out of season right now, those probably will get added later on, as well as things like notifications and stuff

I for now have deleted the app until those things get added in, and on the recommendation of someone else in this thread, I have switched to Sports Alerts, as it has all kinds of nifty notification customizations and dynamic island support too

Seriously, do we have to suffer with "this app/product/service is not perfect yet!!!!" everytime? Seriously, every time?

A lot of the trust I give to Apple is that I know they will consistently improve products over time. It's why I always laugh at Samsung's "let's throw in the kitchen sink on every device" approach, and all the nay sayers saying things like "Samsung has 100X zoom!" as though this version of this phone is the end of all development.

Take a breath. V1 is always V1.

THAT SAID...

My biggest gripe with Apple and sports (and really, every company and sports) are SPOILERS! Take the NFL for example. I use NFL Game Pass, and watch games after they have been played. There are times I'm watching 1 game and Apple TV flashes the score of the other game on the screen. The NFL does this as well, and it annoys me to no end. In the modern world, a lot of us watch games from recorded versions, and knowing the score beforehand seriously harms the experience of watching sports.

All spoilers should be opt-in.

So it IS an unfinished app.
I'm not sure why you replied with this in regards to people not reading the article, but no app is ever finished. Hence updates and tweaks. Just like a car. There's always room for improvement with updates. This app is obviously missing things, its basic right now. I'm sure more updates are to come in the future.

Sports content has gotten more and more prominent lately in the TV and News apps across all platforms. I’m sure it’s nice for fans but is just an irritating waste of space on my devices (especially the phone). Been kind of wishing for an update that lets me just disable the whole Sports tab in those apps. But maybe this new app will get a real development push and they’ll just turn down the sportiness in the other apps by default.

I disagree. We’re not talking about a policy of continuous improvements. This app was simply not ready for release. It’s missing basic functionality - and anyone who uses other sports apps knows it. It’s almost an insult. And, since no one was necessarily expecting it, it begs the question: Why didn’t Apple wait until it was ready for release? Or are the geeks in Cupertino so clueless that they didn’t realize it - or care?

No ads is nice but the app just appears unfinished. I’ll stick with my theScore app.
The Score is what I Have used for years. It's excellent, many more leagues covered with scores (about 30!), standings, and stats.

If the main language in your country is not English, Apple simply deems you a lesser person.

Have you ever had a look at the language and subtitle options that Apple provides for their Apple TV programs? To my view, Apple is one of the few companies that takes a global look.

I suspect it’s because neither league is playing right now. But maybe I’m giving them too much credit. I also don’t see tennis or any form of motorsport. As I posted earlier, the app just looks unfinished.
Yup, and I think it says right in the article too that "Additional leagues, including MLB, NFL, NCAAF, NWSL, and WNBA, will become available in the app over time."

I can only assume at that time that things like granular notifications that you can set per team/league like breaking news, score changes, game start/end will then make their way in too
