I doubt it will become an issue, it’s not like the ASD requires peak cooling performance. So even if it looses a bit of cooling over the years it will be fine.
I guess I was thinking more if the fans need to spin faster due to dust and causing more noise

Great battery management as I don't unplug the laptop very often.

I am thinking about selling the M2 Air and get a Mac mini M2.

Is this MacOS native? Nice! I use the AlDente app that does the same on Intel MacBooks, but I'm glad it is now native with Silicon laptops!

I have a Mini M2 Pro paired with my Studio Display, works perfectly good. Depends if you always work at your desk or if you sometime enjoy working in a cafe / library / another room.

Yup native. I have heard of AlDente but prefer native. This feature is not limited to Apple Silicon laptops, maybe my usage is more predictable lol.

I would love a Mac mini M2 Pro!!

I do work at my desk most of the time and I love using the Studio Display :p

I think the outermost (closest to the right side edge) USB-C port on the ASD doesn’t work with Apple’s MagSafe charger.

With the recent charger firmware update, I connected it to that port (which is always free) on the back of my ASD. Nothing happens - the iPhone won’t recognize it.

However: (1) all ports on the ASD are fine; each works with anything else I plug in - bus-powered external drives, thumb drives, headsets, BFP, even connecting the iPhone directly with a USB-C/Lightning Cable. (2) The MagSafe charger works normally on the other two ports. (3) The charger also works perfectly plugged directly into my Mini or my wife’s MBP, as well an Apple wall charger.

Maybe that outermost port gets less power than the others?

Can't test it properly as I have a third-party MagSafe charger (MFI certificed) so mine didn't get the update. But in terms of power my charger is working as expected with all SD ports. Maybe it is a bug due to software update?

Havent been following this forum lately but tried to browse through the pages.
Any of you experienced dirty screen effect?
I got 2 Studio Displays, and both seem to be impacted. Purchased them in August 2022. One is more severe than the second one.
What do you guys think?

Brightness at full - photos look relatively close to eyesight, maybe a bit overblown.

Is my unit on par with everyone else’s?

I have zero complaints; just curious. I’ve had a couple of high-end monitors in the past, and this is by far the best backlight bleed among them. This is a replacement unit. My first one was a perfect panel but sadly, the power supply had an issue with electric noise and buzzing.
wow that's terrible. Mine is not that bad but I still went to the Genius Bar. I just posted my photos in a previous post. And yes, it looks worse on photos than in real life. Is this just the expected behaviour? I've had a Thunderbolt Display for a good 5 yrs and never had issues. Then my LG Ultrafine was just in a terrible shape after 6 years... I expected my ASDs ( I have 2) to be perfect like the Thunderbolt Display....

My Studio Display has this issue too. I went to the Genius Bar and replaced the panel in March, and the edge has begun to have discoloration again recently...

Mine is looking okay but it only a month old. Do you guys know if this is a panel flaw or if it happens after intense use?

Thanks for sharing. Did it pass under Apple Care for free or did you have to pay?

well - it was not a great experience at the Apple Store... I feel like some of the staff are a bit out of touch sometimes...
At the end, they took the ASD and they will replace the panel. I should have it back in about 10 days. And it's still within the first year so nothing to pay. I will be considering to take Apple Care though cause Im no longer very confident about the ASD...

Yes, its free under Apple Care

I'm starting to notice more and more backlight bleed the longer I have the monitor.

Bought 2 vesa mount, standard glass ASD's in May 2022.

Now just short of a year out, both are developing worsening bleed and uniformity especially on the right hand side. I usually run at about 30% brightness, never above 50-60% brightness.

Anyone else noticing similar issues? @scch is this what you were noticing when you had your panel replaced?

Oh God you guys are scaring me… anyone had same experiences? Maybe that owns this display since a year or so? I wish I can use my SD not worrying too much about the panel developing this kind of issue!

I pay for applecare so I'm not worrying quite as much. If the issues worsens, I'll just go an swap it out as needed. With these reports though, I recommend you get applecare as well.

I don't think it's that serious. I've not once noticed the backlight bleed under regular use (dark/light mode). My panel is also on par with Rtings' black uniformity test - this is typical for any LCD display. Backlight/edge bleed aside, the grey and white uniformity is the best I've ever seen on a monitor at this price point, which in my view, is far more critical than backlight bleed at 100% brightness.

I've not seen this in mine. I have two VESA mount standard-glass ASDs. I have them at 80% brightness each and I've not yet noticed any non-uniformity that wasn't there when they were brand new (some minor typical IPS bleed, but absolutely nothing serious at all).

Man I just got mine today. Bummed seeing this.

I got my display back. So within 3 business days they actually replaced the panel which is a great outcome.
As mentioned earlier, I have 2 ASDs and I noticed the issue with both. One of them was more severe than the other.
Because I couldn't physically bring both monitors I only took one to the Apple Store, and the whole thing was quite silly. They made me feel like I was trying to negotiate something, and definitely making me feel like I was being picky. The Apple staff assigned to me was saying that he couldn't see the difference in colour... That "it's all grey...". Then, he ran some software tests with prompts asking him whether he was seeing Dead pixels, to which he kept responding no.
His manager came at some point, and had the brilliant idea to suggest to look at the ASD they had in display. Claiming that if the bleeding was the same, then it's just what I should expect from this monitor.
I did mention at some point that if it was a 300gbp monitor I wouldn't be bothered with such issue, but given the price I expect colour uniformity. To which he replied that maybe this is as good as the ASD gets, and if I want a better monitor, Apple offers a display called the XDR...
Finally, the manager went for his lunch break. The other staff started to see some differences between the edges and the rest of the screen and was ok to get it replaced.
My new panel is now fine.
I have to do another trip for the second monitor... but they discouraged me quite a lot...
Also, when I got back the other one, I asked if I could take Apple Care as originally I did not expect to have any issues just like my experience with the Thunderbolt Display, they said it's too late...

You guys are making me nervous. I have a new ASD and a Mac mini since about 1.5 month now, and everything works perfectly. The ASD is beautifull, but I'm now wondering about its long term longevity.

I still have 2 weeks left before paying for the AppleCare offering (119$CAD for 3 years), but it's not clear to me what coverage I'll get for the ASD.
