It’s kind of hard to get photographed. But I have these spots on the bottom left and bottom right corner of my ASD.

Looks like backlight blocked a bit so it isn’t fully lit up there.

I see it in some other peoples pictures too, is that normal for a screen like this?

My understanding is that is ‘normal’ for IPS displays, mines got it a tiny bit.. but no where near as bad as my old UltraFine 4K.

I guess how often do you have a full white screen to notice it?

I'm happy. Apple build quality, 5K iMac panel, Speakers sound great, webcam is junk (but hopefully that improves with SW update). Is it the best display for $1600? - debateable. But I've been waiting on this display for 6+ years...

Happy too - but I waited 11 years for this affordable display.

From 2011, my 27" Apple Thunderbolt display worked over the years with: 2011 Mac Mini, 2012 Mac Mini Server, 2015 Macbook Pro, 2019 Mac Mini M1 w/ TB3/TB2 adapter.

$1500 is a very good price considering an 11 year old Thunderbolt display was $1000 back in 2011 that has been a workhorse without complaints, issues, or problems.

Since I felt so bad about retiring my ancient monitor, I am thinking of putting the 11 year old monitor back into service alongside the ASD.

I like your desk arrangement where you're facing the door or your back is against the wall. This is where a Display Studio shines.

Was there ever any doubt? ;) No way I would shell out for the ProDisplay XDR. Would love the local dimming zones and HDR, but for my needs thats complete overkill. I'm great with this.

My 6 years is being conservative, but its roughly the timeframe that I had been using iMac 27" as my primary, but have increasingly moved mobile between my work & personal setups. Now I have my dream setup, where I can move one cable between work MBP & personal MBP. I could accomplish this before with USB-C... but there were a LOT more peripherals involved...

I've moved it around a bit... used to face the window, which ALWAYS results in poor lighting for cameras - and my back was to the door. My wife loves to do surprise sneak attacks, so this avoids that when I'm in my office. 😂

Odd I'm not getting any software updates? Is there a special place I need to look?
Go to System Preferences then Software Update.
I got it as soon as I connected my display, and went into Software Update. You can also check the version on the display too. Launch System Report, Click on Graphics/Displays, and you'll see "Display Firmware Version". It will either be 15.3 or 15.4...

How bad is the fan noise? Is it noticeable when it's super quit like late in the night?

Software Update in System Preferences. If you have the profile to download macOS betas, disable it first.
As soon as I upgraded to Monterey, after re-booting, the ASD update came up.
Now the ASD is looking very good with all functions including center stage.

I guess I have a faulty one.

The left fan is making some crackling noise when I put my ear on the top.. the right side seems to be fine just silent air flow - you can hear clearly the difference between left and right.
I can even hear it when I am 1m away from the monitor, if am behind - have my desk in the middle of the room.

Really disapoiting to go to Apple Store with a 13kg package... to replace a 1,8KEUR Montitor.. other then that I was extremly happy....

Would be interesting to test some in the Apple Store, if they also have it.

I'm having the exact same issue. It's quite audible from the back of the display.
Can anyone else confirm that this is not normal?
