Quick question for owners. Are any of you using this with a Mac Mini? I'm thinking of buying this combo with the 16GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD in the mini. I just watched the below review where the reviewer is comparing Mini v Studio and he thinks the Mini slows down trying to power the 5K ASD. For a very non-demanding user like me who uses the Mac to web browse, MS office work, watching content etc. No video/photo editing and no gaming. Will this be an issue or should I think of getting the basic Studio?

Total nonsense, I'm running my Studio Display off the fanless MacBook Air M1 with only 8GB ram... and it's smooth as butter with a similar workflow as you... don't waste your money!

Phew! Thanks a lot for that. I think he's saying that as he's doing heavy video editing and so of course the Studio will be faster.

Not an issue at all; there is no noticeable difference when running common tasks on 5K, 4K, or both on the M1 mini.

I’m running my ASD off my M1 iMac, which needs to push an extra 4.5k screen In addition to the 5k. The M1 handles it very smoothly.

For anyone running their display from their MacBook... do you notice the fans still running when it's asleep? Assuming it's because it's still charging the MacBook, but seems kinda weird.

Tempted to log with Apple Support, see what they say.

Anyone find the standard height to low? I´m 6´3 and I don´t want any raiser on the desk. I put my actual 27 Dell at 48cm and I can´t tell if its OK or if I want it to be OK so I don´t spendd 400dls more on the height adjustable hahaha.

The tilt helps a little I think It should be fine... :p

For what it's worth, I did some measurements when trying to decide. The top of the ASD is 47.80 cms and the top of the actual screen is 46.53 and you'd want to be eye level with that for posture etc. I have a 27in iMac and the top of that is 51.6 cms and the top of that screen is 49.06 and that screen is perfect for me at 6 foot.

I'm personally going with the height-adjustable stand. It's a rip off here, €460 extra which is $507 but I want to keep this screen for years and I don't like the various risers as they're too high.

Thank you, yes, here is also 460€.

I had an iMac for years and I can´t remember complaining about the screen height (and never used any riser or something like that). But the screen is far lower on the ASD for what you are saying, compared to the iMac... 2.5 cm, is a lot on the screen height.

Yeah, it's a full inch in old money.

The tilt can help a little bit; I set my display so the top of the screen is at 46.5, it´s not bad, but I know is low...

Maybe Amazon make a good deal later this year, they always put MBP at 150/250€ less than apple, a couple of month later of the launch day.

Sounds pretty normal to me! Maybe sound is bouncing off/being warped by something under or behind your monitor?

Also I would try in photobooth or voice memos. Teams is chalk full of glitches with Apple Hardware. I have a feud with it,
Just tried it with Teams again and Voice Memos app. It still has way too much bass. My voice sounds thunderous even at low volumes.

Yep, the fans are running during sleep, must be due to the charging.

I wonder if they'll fix this, seems odd to me - the charger that came with my MacBook is much smaller... and doesn't need a fan to charge :)

Yep... running off a 14" MBP in clamshell mode and with it asleep I can put my cheek by the top of the monitor and still feel air coming out. So it seems like the fans never stop.
Can't be good for the fans to run 24x7 can it... and not really very 'green' - maybe it's their solution to stop dust getting in :D

I was wondering the same thing. With as little air moving out of there though, maybe it is not enough to suck in dust or use much power.

Any amount of air movement will suck in dust, even with no active air movement, things get dusty inside overtime.

One thing I am wondering about, why the airflow is not the other way around ?
The amount of dust collected on a table would be bigger then floating in the air at the the back.
(I know reversing is not an option)

Convection already brings cool air in the bottom and pushes hot air out the top, so the fans help this passive airflow along.
