I have the same stats on my 2019 5k iMac.
Cool, thanks, that's really good it can do BT2020, at least it can show/edit wide colour gamut. So it's an HDR monitor in a way, unlike the LG. When it says it doesn't have HDR, I thought it's not capable of showing wide colour gamut at all.

I'm on Display Firmware Version: Version 15.3 (Build 19D8050)
is this the newest version? I dont see any available update.

Can other owners chime in on this? I would be using it under 75% at all times, so wonder whether it would be an issue. Thanks!
I have intermittent buzzing at all brightness levels and I haven't yet figured out what is causing it.

15.4 is the newest version, make sure you're on the latest mac osx version and that you have restarted your computer (fully shut down) to see the update.

That concerns me as well. I have a late 2015 iMac and you can see it in my lower left screen blow, Almost like a cat paw print at this stage. It's on no other corner though. I've seen the videos on how to clean it, no thanks....

I'm surprised that the glass wasn't bound to the LCDs like phones are. I hope this doesn't happen :/

Here is my ASD review and thoughts.

My first Mac was a Mini paired with a 20" ACD. I had that setup for 10 years and then moved onto a 5k iMac in 2018. My third setup is now the ASD with an M1 Mac Mini.

Aesthetically I prefer the smaller visual footprint of the display versus a large iMac. I also prefer the idea of having to just bring my Mini into Apple in case it needs service versus placing a huge iMac into a box and carrying it there and back.

I'm using the nano option. I have 7 large windows behind my screen. Once I switched over to using Dark Reader with Chrome the glare behind me became a huge issue. The nano is a God send. Yes it makes text a touch softer. However it doesn't bother me one bit and the lack of glare on the screen now is extremely well worth it for me.

It was immediately apparent to me once I started using the ASD that the screen was brighter compared to my 5k iMac. The Max Tech review on YouTube simply confirmed this.

The build quality of the display is stunning. It reminds me so much of my 20" ACD. I have heard stories about how terrible the LG UF can be regarding wobble during typing. This display will not budge whatsoever during use.

We all know the webcam has an issue. I am hopeful and optimistic that Apple will fix this in a software update as they said they would.

I don't think the speakers are anything special. I have cheap $20 2.1 speakers and they sound much better.

Something that isn't brought up enough is the advantage of Apple support regarding displays. If I have any issues with the ASD I can simply bring it to my local Apple store. Good luck dealing with customer service from another display company. I also opted for yearly AC and that gives me peace of mind which is invaluable.

I feel the complaints about lack the of mini-LED, ProMotion, and HDR are ridiculous honestly. All those things are coming in the Studio Display Pro very soon which will be far more expensive. It was important that Apple was able to offer us a display at less than $2,000. Regarding those things specifically, people here have complained about text with mini-LED in dark mode. I have ProMotion on my iPad Pro and never notice it. And I'm not sure HDR is really that important in my specific use case.

I do feel the premium for the height adjustable stand is silly. However you can also simply use a riser or a Vesa mount if you need such a thing. I have a 27" high desk with an additional 5" for a second level so ergonomically the standard tilt stand is perfect for me. If that weren't the case I'd just get a riser and stick the Mini below it.

In terms of value I feel the display is $300 more than it should be. Consider it the Apple tax. The LG UF should not be the same price 6 years later. But the 5k display market is so scarce that our options are super limited if we want this 5k resolution.

If I had to complain about anything it would be that this display does not come in a 32" variety. Hopefully that will happen at some point as 27" isn't big enough for everyone and the Pro XDR is too expensive for many.

I'm very grateful Apple is back in the display game for those of us that wanted something that wasn't $5,000. This is long overdue.

On a final note, here is my first Apple setup and my latest.

Same question here. I’d be profiled to a brightness of 80-120 cd, and nowhere near 75%.

I’m thinking to go with the BenQ 32” SW321c which is cheaper than the ASD and has more features I would use for photography.

That is a very bold claim, bordering on paranoia. Do you have any proof to back that up?

I connect Ethernet to my LG every other month or so to check for software updates, other than that it is not allowed on the Internet. (They could of course be caching collected data and shipping it off when there is a connection, but I'm hoping this edge case is not worth the development it would require.)

It doesn't cover the BT 2020 colour space (I don't believe that any monitor can right now ?). There is a difference between the colour space the content is working with and what the display can actually reproduce :D.

It covers P3 very well, Adobe RGB not so much, and by extension can't have a particularly good BT 2020 coverage : https://www.dpreview.com/news/85970...ay-2022-an-excellent-monitor-at-a-steep-price

The contrast ratio also means that it can't display HDR content properly, regardless of whether or not Youtube allows it to be used.

Jesus… thanks for the links, very informative. At least you can opt out of these tracking "features". Here's a guide for the most popular devices:

Just checked on mine, all were already off.

Or just never ever connect the TV to the internet and use an Apple TV 4K for all streaming purposes.

Wow, yep, when I increase the brightness (~75% and up), the sound goes away.
Well, this seems like it is the same issue as with the Imac M1. It is also on the left side of the display. As far as I understand, it has something to do with the PWM brightness modulation.

Good to know that this happens with the Studio Display as-well. This is for me, personally, quite a dealbreaker for this display as I tend to work in a quiet room and can hear that annoying buzzing sound if I don't wear any headphones.

Has anyone seen any updates, even speculation, on whether a software update will be able to fix the webcam issue?

Alternatively, does anyone know how long it takes to receive an invite for the Opal webcam? I signed up for the wait list.

So this doesn’t seem to be a fault, all Studio Displays have it. Maybe some will not hear it in their own setup, but comes across to me a by product of the brightness control mechanism. A buzzing sound would be a dealbreaker for me too, would be good to hear more feedback from current owners on this. I see that it has been picked up in other fora too, such as Reddit.

So almost a week in, and a few niggles I've noticed:

- The fans seem to always be running, they are very quiet but you can certainly hear the air flowing through the display and feel the air coming out the top.
- This seems to be the case even when my MacBook goes to sleep... does anyone else notice this?
- The speakers are very good, really loud and clear... but I've noticed maybe a bit too tinny on certain songs, almost like a very subtle rattle from the left side

Maybe I've just got super sensitive hearing?!?!

I noticed the fans running when my MacBook is sleeping as well, perhaps it's because the monitor is still charging the MacBook?

Yeah, was thinking that. It doesn't bother me that much as it's in my office... but more worried about wear and tear over several years (glad I got AppleCare!)

Could you please make an audio recording, so we can get a feel of this airflow noise? It would be very helpful
