Anyone planning on using this with the space grey MBP? Does it bother you that the colors don't match?
That’s what I have. It’s fine. From the front all you see are the black screen and perhaps part of the stand.

MKBHD usually doesn't say bad things about Apple products, he is usually a very balanced reviewer, yet even he has suggested that this monitor is CRAP...Maybe I should return it....🧐🧐🧐

Now, if only I could gaze into the future and confirm for myself that the 32-inch 8k/7k Mini-LED monitor is in production, then this monitor is going straight back to Apple....yet I can't confirm it...

Hmm....I still have 1 more week for the return...
That’s not what he said at all. He’s suggesting it’s overpriced. Judged purely on specs, perhaps it is, but the only remotely comparable monitor is $1300.

Point me to where in the review he suggested that it's "crap."

Is anyone still waiting for theirs? I ordered within hours of preorder opening. My order status is still “Processing”

I’m still waiting for my nano-texture VESA mount that I ordered 15 minutes after the presentation ended. I did pick up a standard display with the height-adjustable mount by waking up early on launch day and looking at in-store inventory.

This LG OLED 42-inch 4K HDR TV has piqued my interest...

It's $300 cheaper than the SD and uses superior panel technology. The only downsides:
  • the PPI/isn't retina
  • no webcam
  • no speakers
I am heavily debating returning the SD and picking up the 42-inch OLED when it starts shipping in May...

Thoughts?

I have an LG OLED. LG TVs come with ads and constantly reset picture quality settings to really bad defaults.

Unless you really want the larger size, skip the spyware TV and get the SD.
What does the TV show instead of ads if it doesn't have internet connectivity?

Looks like you have a defective unit. I had an LG OLED E6 for four years and have had an LG OLED GX over a year, and never did the picture settings (or any other setting) reset.

If you don't use the built-in apps, you won't see any ads either.

Tailosive Tech did a live stream from his Studio Display, and I must say... I'm really impressed by center stage. I didn't think it would be a useful feature, but I could totally see this being utilized as a lazy-man's camera man. It's actually quite pleasant to watch the video pan around and always have the subject centered during his livestream. I'd imagine something like this would be nice for a video call - it's surprisingly pleasant and gives this strange sort of organic but lively feel to the videos as opposed to a stationary view:

Not to mention, I could see this being a precursor to a nice tech horror movie about center stage panning to frame ghost figures in your calls 😆 Reminds me of when Alexa started to randomnly laugh at night scaring consumers lol

What I got from it was that it's not a good deal; like a Rolls-Royce. Probably not a good deal, but a great car for a specific type of person. That's what I gathered from MKBHD's review 😅

I finally made the decision to stick to the tilt+height stand, and wait it out for delivery despite the backorder (at 2 months). I will be checking the stand for any slants as reported on the thread. No monitor riser for me :) In the long run I think it will be less of headache fighting for desk space. Mouse + Keyboard + Tablet + secondary Tablet + 2 Laptops + Monitor + bookstand. A riser will most likely crowd out my keyboard + tablet + bookstand while working.

How are you guys dealing with cable management? If you have any good solutions to keeping things tidy, I'd be curious to know which products are being used. Thanks!

I have a Studio Display and a Mac Mini M1, works great. I also have an old beefed up 12 core Mac Pro 5,1 (2010) I'd like to use with it occationally for some games and whatnot.

I'm thinking of grabbing a used 5700 XT which is just about the latest supported GPU for this old Mac Pro. Would I be able to output 5K60 to the display via a Displayport 1.4 to USB-C cable (8K capable) or is that a no go?

The 5700XT supports DSC so theoretically it will work.
The big question is, however: Does DSC work on third-party GPUs in macOS? If it doesn’t, “4K” is as good as it gets.

In any case, make sure your cable goes from DisplayPort to USB-C (or is bidirectional) and has a separate USB connection for the speakers etc. to work.

Thanks a lot, that's great. :) I think I would be happy enough with it running 4K as well.

What's a good bidirectional Displayport to USB-C cable to get?

That these two displays are so fundamentally different that I think you'd benefit from spending a bit more time exploring your actual needs / wants :D. There isn't such a thing as one being "better" than the other, it's rather a question of being best suited to what you want.

BTW LG OLED TVs aren't the only option if you're interesting in a 42-48" OLED panel and you even have full-fledged monitors with DisplayPort available (or soon to be in 2022).

Using such WRGB large OLED panels as monitors brings many drawbacks to the experience alongside the positives and in my opinion while they're the most appropriate choice for some specific applications, you should think long and hard before going that route.

I love my LG OLED, but as TV - not sure I'd be happy running it as my monitor, super worried about burn-in, especially as MacOS has so many persistent UI elements compared to Windows, also 42" on a desk just seems MASSIVE!

Had a full day using the display for normal dev workflow.
Not as nice as the LG 38in ultrawide I use in the (home) office (in so much as side by side window placement) but this is being used in the house when I fancy a change of scenery.

Speakers have been blaring out all manner of random choices, videos, podcasts and they are plenty good enough.
The bonus being it's one less bit of clutter in the house so as not to look too "officey".

Height is fine for the chair I'm using - if it needed to go any higher I'd get a wooden stand with space underneath for a notepad and things.

Single cable use is great as well and happily charged an iPad from one of the other ports on the back.

Replaced an LG 27in 4k and a Dell 32in curved 4K that both went back for a variety of reasons.

After having meetings with the world and his brother the past week I've not managed to have any the past day or so and havent used the webcam or mic in anger.

Edited to add - the empty box weighs more than a small child.
