^ no as .exe viruses do not run on Macs. the download is just a video file and no .exe is downloaded as well. there are however a few rare Mac trojans out there in dodgy malicous downloads, so all you have to do is be careful what you provide your password to. so if a say a movie file asked for your password you will realise that it not correct behaviour and may be a trojan.

Listen everyone, if you had full unfettered access to a very pre-release version of a highly sought after device and you were trying to show it off to the world, you wouldn't take just a couple of pictures and videos at bizarre angles with x-files type lighting, framing and composition. No, if a person actually had full access to this device and wanted to send out the info about it then they'd be flooding us with 100's of photos and videos, with bright lighting, showing us every angle of the thing, and showing us extensive videos of every aspect of it in use.

Just think about. Logically there's no way a person who really had full access to this device would be posting stuff the way this person has been doing. Logic strongly points towards this being a fake. Unless the OP starts flooding us with hundreds of well-lit and well-composed photos and videos showing every angle of this device he has full access to, then there's absolutely no reason to believe that this is anything other than a faker.

+1. Very good point.

Didnt he say multiple times it was just a dev kit to show off the software? I don't see the point in taking photos of hardware that isn't actually something that Apple would release, rather their taking photos of the software which they seem to havr in possession.

This guy clearly wants props for leaking this, and he's clearly trying to convince us that this is real, so the point of taking reasonable pictures of the hardware would be to put people's doubts to rest. More importantly, the photos and videos he's posting are all poorly focused, at weird angles, and poorly lit, and they all show extremely limited usage of what would be possible to show us if this device was actually real.

For instance, in the first video he opens up the Notes program and types in one single letter. Who the heck would do that? A person would have to purposely be trying to only type in one single letter for that to wind up being their action. Think about it, if you go into any typing program and want to type anything into it, I imagine that the VAST majority of people would type in something like "test", "hi", or just a string of a few random letters, but to just type in one single letter? Nobody does that. I imagine that this is just an animation he created and then mimed the physical motion for the pre-scripted actions in the video. If he were to type in a string of letters it would be very obvious that his finger taps were not syncing properly to the timing of the letters appearing on the screen.

A lot of work went into creating this fake from a technical aspect, but examining the evidence from every logical standpoint just screams fake.

This is my first post on Macrumors but i would just like to say i think this video is real. and i also think apple had something to do with it getting posted, and here's why:

1. The videos are everywhere. I find it hard to believe apple would let everyone show them if they didnt think the showing served a purpose. this brings me to point 2

2. Assuming this is real, these videos really help apple. They soften the ground for releasing the tablet the way it is. meaning people wont be shocked when they see it for the first time, as not only have they seen the concept of iphone apps running in small windows inside the tablet, they also have had time to like it. Most of the backlash to such an idea has been already posted as response to this so-called fake video, and now there is more room for the complements that come later (notice how Gizmodo, in a very short period of time, has already gone through both phases).

3. On one hand, people wont be surprised as to the general concept of the tablet, but on the other hand they wont be bored. these videos reveal the concept but very little else. the reason they are so short is that it leaves much to the imagination. Also, the OS in the video is obviously unfinished, leaving the "wow" factor for the announcement of the final finished version.

All these points are assuming this is real, which i do assume because the pictures/videos seem so tailored to apple's needs.

OH man OH man OH man!

This is exciting... I hope this is just a touch optimized full leopard, and not glorified iPhone OS.

P.S. maybe that supposed iPhone 4G was really a tablet mac that got lost? UPDATE: I just read the dev machine bit

I'm getting more convinced that this leak is real. At the least, it looks very like what I'd expect this tablet to be.

Very good points there. The low-quality videos leave a lot to be answered plus I'm sure there's more upcoming features than a systemwide keyboard.

I tell you what, if I was making these videos, I'd be making damn sure there was nothing else visible, wouldn't want any chance of my identity being discovered.

I have no doubt as to the authenticity of these videos, the animations are too perfect.

What it is, though, I have no idea. Is it a discarded prototype OS or is it the real deal?

Without knowing any of the details, I am venturing a guess that this is the real deal.

  • Why are people asking for a picture of the device? The OP clearly says this is just the devkit, not the actual device.
  • The amount of finesse it would take to fake something like this seems too high for it to be a fake.
  • Regarding the claim that the real device wouldn't have a device-wide keyboard: in rev. 1, this makes perfect sense. If Apple keeps the iPhone-size keyboard on each application's window, there is no extra work required for developers to get their app to run on the tablet. This is a smart way to start.
So, though we haven't seen the actual device, this is probably the real interface.

I'm fairly convinced this is a legimate dev kit.

However, I already have a fairly good idea of where, given his location, this dev kit likely comes from, so I think he's very brave/stupid to post as much as he has without more obfusication...

I'm not sure I want to be the one to break that open, but there's a very important company who might well have access to this, and just so happens their mobile UX team is based in a few offices in Western Europe...

I so want this to be real. Talk about awesomeness. Imagine playing games like monkey ball on a bigger screen and with more graphics power... sweeeeet.

The only reason I don't think this is real is the OP seems fishy. If he can't speak english that good, how is he a devoloper? And he seems to just be making excuses as people find faws in his videos. When someone said Why he isnt showing the actual device he said it was against a wall. Now its a dev kit?
Im not believen it.
