how many current AVP owners are still using it as much as they intended to? My gut feeling is the novelty wore off and now they're using it a couple of times a week to watch movies. Considering the induced physical pain as a result of the weight and strain on the eyes, I can't imagine this as a computing replacement.

eye strain is not always present in the headset because it really depends on each person. This is not what will make you blind, I think, or even damage your eyesight. unless you use it in an extreme way.

Do you realize they make stuff up for movies?

Because they show something in a sci-fi movie doesn’t mean it’s even actually possible (or actually desirable for that matter).

Just to let you know, we aren’t gonna be traveling at Warp Speed anytime soon either

Ever hear of a guy called Jules Verne? I get it, you mock what you can’t have. And you clearly haven’t been keeping up with quantum mechanics either. Some of us see past the ‘glory’ days of hackintosh. The avp is a good first step. Glad people outside of the US are now getting the chance to find out for themselves.

I use mine just about every day and have only used my iPad 3 times since I got the AVP the day after launch day. I have no need for an iPad or iPad Pro anymore. A actual Bluetooth keyboard and Magic TrackPad let me use the device to point, click and quickly type.

Why be forced to only be able to run two apps side by side on an 11” screen when I can have 4 or 5 apps open at once around me and have certain apps with windows in certain rooms? Walk into it the room and there they are. Walk out and they’re gone.

It’s also great to watch TV shows or movies on my entire wall instead of my 65 inch TV and while not all of the 3D movies are well done most are. I had already bought quite a few movies that already had 3D versions out there. The immersive content is amazing and being able to record spatial video on my iPhone and play it back in the AVP is pretty awesome too. There isn’t nearly enough immersive content yet and I’ll be extremely disappointed if they don’t start putting more out the door at regular intervals post WWDC when it launches in other countries but outside of that I have few complaints. I’m used to the weight and can wear it for hours thanks to a second battery I always have sitting on the charger.

This last weekend was the first weekend I didn’t use it at all because of of a celebration of life for my uncle who passed away last winter early Saturday afternoon and hanging out with my cousins for a night on the town after that followed by Mothers Day on Sunday abc getting some QT in with my mom out in the lake but outside of that very few days go by where I don’t the throw it on for at least 30 minutes to a couple of hours. My wife’s a second shifter and I work first so I have plenty of time to kill when it’s just me. She sleeps in late than I do so I’ve got a few hours by myself to kill most Saturday and Sunday mornings as well. We don’t want kids and don’t have any and like being DINKS (Dual Income No Kids) and the lifestyle that comes along with that. We’ve got plenty of nieces and nephews and the beauty with them is once we’re done hanging out with them we can take them home to their parents unless their out of town on a trip for a few days.

Think about it... If people in the most developed nation on the planet (i.e. with the most disposable income) don't want this thing, what makes you think people in other, less developed countries will?
And there it is right there. That is why your country is a laughing stock to all the rest of us around the world 😂

This is incredibly sad to read. Please reconsider.

I consider to buy it, but I’m really disappointed because the delay.
Half of the discovery pleasure is already gone.
I totally get that! Actually I had no intention of buying one until a Star Trek app was announced at release time. I did the demo and was blown away. I’m hoping visionOS 2 is going to be significant. So if you did get a VP as soon as it’s available in the UK you’d still very much be an early adopter.

I couldn’t disagree more. We don’t want kids. There are enough children born to parents who don’t want them without us contributing to that mess either by putting them up for adoption or raising them without dedicating the kind of time and resources they need to have a chance at growing up to be happy, productive members of society or doing so but feeling animosity toward them, yourself or your spouse for being put in that position.

If you’re not sure you want children and don’t want to dedicate the time and resources it takes to properly raise them yet have them anyway IMO you are a part of the problem. I know plenty of people without children who live perfectly happy, fulfilling lives. Having children doesn’t come with guarantees that they will go on to be successful, well adjusted human beings who lead successful, happy and fulfilled lives nor is it a guarantee you’ll be a good parent.

If parenting isn’t for you and you know it having children anyway hoping you and your spouse will both come around is, IMO, a terrible thing to do but I do appreciate your concern. It’s just not for us and we’re perfectly happy with that decision I can assure you.

meta quest 3 is no more spy than AVP. especially since for some time now, having a Facebook account is no longer obligatory. In addition, the Meta Quest 3 is an excellent headset with a huge number of games available and even exclusives. Is the 7 to 8x the asking price for the APV justified? Honestly, I don't think so. even if it's a very good headset too but it's more of a prototype than anything else.
Well you haven’t followed the news then. It is now even more spyware than it was before, from now on it will be collecting pretty much all the data they can , including everything the camera sees, your environment , your hand movements, your microphone, all your voice interactions, etc…

if that’s not the perfect definition of surveillance, i don’t Know what it is

  • "Your audio data, when your microphone preferences are enabled, to animate your avatar’s lip and face movement"
  • "Certain data" about hand, body, and eye tracking, "such as tracking quality and the amount of time it takes to detect your hands and body"
  • Fitness-related information such as the "number of calories you burned, how long you’ve been physically active, [and] your fitness goals and achievements"
  • "Information about your physical environment and its dimensions" such as "the size of walls, surfaces, and objects in your room and the distances between them and your headset"
  • "Voice interactions" used when making audio commands or dictations, including audio recordings and transcripts that might include "any background sound that happens when you use those services" (these recordings and transcriptions are deleted "immediately" in most cases, Meta writes)
  • Information about "your activity in virtual reality," including "the virtual reality events you attend"

a bit like all VR headsets that have cameras and electronics. But despite that, the meta quest 3 remains an excellent headset with many applications available and compatible.
