Just my opinion, but I'm going to be hopeful and disagree with you on this one. Apple's website still says, "later this month" in the Hot News section.

http://www.apple.com/hotnews/

That is your opinion, however the later this month could in reality mean any month, when they decide to release the update and usually for Apple, they release updates on a Tuesday, i know some updates have come out on other days, but all i can say is it has been 2 weeks and 1 day since he said the update would be released, and its not here.
Like everyone here i want the update to come out, i just don't see it coming today or this month, he has today or tomorrow to bring the update out in January which i think is unlikely.

Relax my impatient people. The update will be released when it's ready to be released. They are most likely working on some last minute changes or QA. I would rather wait a few days and have an update that has been QA'd properly, then get some buggy "new" software. So I am sure that when it's ready it will be released so there is no need to worry about it, just relax and it will be there when you least expect it just hopefully soon.

I too bought my appleTV back when it had first come out. Before even the YouTube update. So, I have been waiting for the abilities this update will bring for a very long time. While i was one of the first posters on this thread and I'm still very excited about its imminent release, I guess one or two more days wont kill me. It will give me something to look forward too.

Wow. So what else have you done before anybody else?

Still waiting.... Yesterday when I saw how much this thread grew I thought, "OMGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!! It's been updated!!" Then read a few posts and thought, "uhhh..............."

Haha... I thought the same thing. I looked and saw 11 pages worth of posts and thought "How did I miss this? Why wasn't it on the main page?"

I guess misery just loves company.

it looks as if the apple site is down, maybe a site/server update. mesu.apple.com/version.xmlis also down.

Well.. that sucks. Hopefully they'll release it sometime these days. I don't like the way Apple is handeling this situation. All they have to do is say when they're planning on releasing it, now that Steve broke his own deadline.

These headlines just hit bbg at 1225

"Apple says new apple tv software update 'not quite finished'"
"Apple says new apple tv software to be available within 2 weeks"

Only Apple

I've had my eye on this thread (and cursor poised over the Software Update Button) for 24 hours now (OK, I did sleep a little). Once again it occurs that either we must all be slightly insane, or Steve and boys - and girls - know exactly what they're doing.

Let's face it - it's probably both.

The irony is that I could have been there and back to Blockbusters half a dozen times since this time yesterday; but where's the fun in that?

mesu.apple.com/version.xml still shows the same version number as before. No change there that I can see.

Hey it's Weldon! How's your ZFS machine going? Still waiting on your install guide ;) just kidding.. got it figured out.

Do you really need some new movies that badly?

Delayed

Engadget has just reported that the Take 2 update is delayed with more info to come.

Engadget has just reported that the Take 2 update is delayed with more info to come.

"Well, the rumors are true, the Apple TV "take 2" update, which was due yesterday, is officially delayed. According to Apple, they are planning to "make the free software download available to existing Apple TV customers in another week or two." Not a deal-killer by any means, but certainly a temporary bummer for those who can't wait to start renting (HD) movies on their device."
