The saddest part of the demo was when the Vision Pro user was wearing the goggles to video-record their children playing, and the narrator implied that Vision Pro would bring you even closer to your loved ones. How? By putting yet another layer of electronics between you and others?
I thought that was really really sad.

It’s very innovative as expected from Apple, but no way would I wear one just walking around, opening the fridge, watching the kids play, Lolly-gagging around the house etc.. especially for that price. I guess we’ll see how comfy it is when it’s released..
We will know who has one by the tan lines on faces.

My biggest question is whether the device supports more than one user. Is it like a Mac, or like an iPhone?

As far as the cost:

M2 + R1: $1500
2 Studio Displays: $1600 x 2 = $3200
Spatial audio sound system (AirPod Pro): $250

So you are in for almost $5k with this setup. Even with one monitor, you are in for almost the full $3,500. Of course, all of this is based on a direct comparison. This will be a whole new experience....one that a StudioDisplay can not deliver.

If you are using Studio Displays, you are already tethered to a desk....so being tethered for a headset to get power isn't much different. The value will depend on your overall system. I think many will have to make a choice....Mac or Vision Pro. If you're only using your Mac for things like browsing, e-mail, Microsoft Office....Vision Pro does seem like a better value. However, it will need to be comfortable on your face for extended periods of time.

I want to say this is not a product for the "average" consumer or user. But nearly everything they showed in the presentation targeted the "average" consumer.

So it's very confusing to me. To me, this just looks like a public access Concept product and the relatively few who buy this are doing it just for that reason. Not the reasons shown in the presentation.

Apple knows that it's not going to have a massive audience and it's priced like a high quality LOW volume product. Currently, there is no Economy of Scale with this product, simple as that.
I think it's being marketed as a Mac system replacement. Not just a Mac, but the whole system....

A M2 Mac, considering Vision Pro has the R1 chip: $1500
Studio Display: $1600
AirPod Pro: $250

Just those three items is $3350. Many "average" consumers have those three items. Then you have all these added sensors and cameras....and the experience itself. You'll have the equivalent of many screens....not just one.

This is why Office was included. Apple wants you to know that many can replace their Mac with this device.

This is a developer tech demo. Obviously in the future the battery will be inside the device. If you are going to buy this one day one, you will be developing for this or have a lot of money to spend on tech betas.

Make no mistake this is the future of personal computing. In 10 years nobody will own an iPhone or a Mac with a screen.
10 years isn't as long as you think

Not very good if you want to use this thing on a flight, or want to walk around your house for a full work day as they showcased in the presentation. but I'm sure Apple will sell you additional batteries for $500 each probably lol.
Most airplane seats have usb power outlets to plug in to, so I don't think flights would be a problem

Ok, I'll admit this looks cooler and has more functionality than I expected. That said, based on Apple's history I would still never buy a 1st generation Apple product, especially one that costs that much. I'll think about it when gen 2 or 3 comes out.

Anyone else find it ironic that they advertise an iPad health feature which measures the device-to-eye distance, yet their groundbreaking new product has 4K displays an inch away from your eyeballs?

Your child’s eyes are being damaged by too much time indoors!

Here’s a new device that will make them never want to go outside again!!!

You must not have kids. The benefit of that type of video recording is to be able to share it with others or be able to look back at it in a few years and see your kids at a younger age.

Some of us probably won’t think about it until Gen 5 when maybe the price is similar to a higher priced iPhone.

One message was for the benefit of reducing myopia in children while their eyes are still growing. The Vision Pro was aimed at adult usage. I don't think they are marketing the Vision Pro for little kids.
