Yeah… this is happening.

It was not mentioned if phone calls could be made with Vision Pro without an iPhone, so I assume not. I was hoping so. That way the wireless providers would offer the Vision Pro as a device for monthly payments. I could save for the Vision Pro but I also would have to save for Apple Care + with Theft and Loss which I'm guessing would be $400.

Not that I would buy it if it cost 200 but that is really going to limit purchases I would think. Way too much
if Apple makes 200,000 to start… they will sell every single one.

between Apple “fanboys”, early adopters, developers etc… there is a massive market for these despite the price.

Definitely gotta get it right, but man missing XMAS holiday season is a killer, missing Q4 or any year going into Q1 of the following, you’re going into the LOWEST consumer buying period of the year. Bonne chance.
Given the Pro moniker and the price, this is obviously a consumer. This is priced around the same as MS' HoloLens but with significantly more advanced technology. This initial product is going after that market. IOW, the enterprise and enthusiast market. The non-Pro version is rumored to launch 1.5 to 2 years later.

No one said the Apple Watch was too expensive, only the steel and gold models.

I think personally, I would spend maximum £2000 on one but I expect a £3800 price tag once it hits the UK.

Its not a 4k display.. its a display that feels like a 4k display. We do not know the exact resolution at this moment.
The web page says “23 million pixels across two displays”, which would correspond to circular panels with a 3826-pixel diameter or to square panels with 3391x3391 pixels.

The only thing I don't quite get is the battery life, I really hope they take the time to improve or offer more expensive power packs. Seems like an easy solution. I am sure there will be kickstarters or 3rd party solutions of power bundle packs or something to increase.
I don't know. Offering expensive upgrades just doesn't seem like Apple.

A glasses-based product is a fundamentally different experience, though I'll admit one I'd probably welcome more. You can't get immersive theater experiences (without some add-on blinders, I suppose) but you could still get augmented reality, gestures, and the ability to see and be seen with natural vision, not a bunch of cameras. Personally, I would make that trade-off (i.e., I'd sooner buy glasses over goggles) because, try as they might, even Apple hasn't solved the "human element" with these things. Live footage of your eyes on a screen doesn't make anyone forget you're wearing a computer on your head.

Yeah, I feel as if Apple would have had much more traction introducing a set of AR glasses, tons of useful stuff you can get out of AR glasses that can be worn most of the time. Maybe segmenting this into 2 devices, one VR with some AR, and one dedicated AR. For those who haven't used a VR headset, they get REALLY uncomfortable REALLY fast. They weigh heavy on the forehead and eyes, because they block light they don't let in much air so they get very stuffy and sweaty, and call me vain but they wreak havoc on your hair. Take a VR headset off and you look like a racoon with a perm gone bad, not exactly conducive to those social events.

Oh man. If this thing could connect to my Mac Pro and allow me to work with After Effects and Cinema 4D would be a ground breaking experience for me and many designers. What a missed opportunity. Hoping this thing lasts up to a version 2.0 and isn't DOA like the Newton.
The demo showed it connected to Mac and assuming the role of the monitor. Surely they can make it connect to a Mac Pro too.

I'm surprised that they couldn't fit an adjustable diopter into the lens system like they have in binoculars and many camera viewfinders! 🤔👀

The technology is impressive but Apple has lost touch with reality. Extremely expensive niche product, it will undoubtably be cool as hell the try out, but real-world usage will not be there. They went "all in" on VR, and because of the time involved in development, (7 years?) they are not where they need to be with this.

I was really expecting an AR product, not a VR product, and I think they could have done much better with a less complex, lighter, better-looking and cheaper AR product.

As a VR enthusiast and user, I’m not loving this overall.

Unique pros:
  • extremely high resolution
  • compatibility with iOS and Mac
Cons:
  • $3,500
  • needs to be plugged into the battery or power to work.
    • If my battery is dying, do I need to power down the headset momentarily to switch to a new battery or power source? Never mind. You can charge the battery via USB-C while in use, it seems.
  • unknown whether or not it can stream VR games from PC
At this point, I see myself getting a Gen 2 Meta Quest Pro before even considering this.
Or wait for a Meta Quest 3

I don’t think Apple expects this to be a blockbuster from Day 1, but they do appear to be aiming to have the best device out there. Hopefully enough first adopters take the plunge so that the technology improves and becomes more affordable.

They aren't expecting it to be a top seller. This generation is for the early adopters so that they can work the bugs out and figure out how to make future versions cheaper.

Lot of people in here don’t know what a high end vr device costs.

Comparing to oculus quest isn’t just stupid but it’s ignorant.

Day 1 purchase.
High-end VR headsets should allow users to stream VR apps from PC to headset, and as of now, we have no idea if Apple will allow that.

It's 2023, we're on the brink of a recession and Apple seems to think this is the right time to release a VR headset for $3.5k + TAX. Cook is smoking something...
Cook couldn’t have predicted a war which lead to a recession. The product has been in development for years and it’s right to release it and let the market adapt rather than wait any longer.
