If they do launch a 2nd generation, I’m only upgrading because I don't have AppleCare on my Ultra, in case something were to happen. I like to have that peace of mind.

Is that what happens with the black DLC watches?

Take a look at Garmin watches that have black coated titanium. They use DLC on high end Fenix models, and they’re very prone to color scratching off.

Maybe Apple can pull it off, but I’d personally be nervous of this.

Thanks. Hasn’t Apple done black SS and Ti in the past? I thought they had. Maybe I’m wrong.

Yes. They did space black Ti Editions. I believe it showed scratches for some. I’ve read that it wasn’t nearly as scratch resistant as the Space Black SS Apple Watches.

Just the typical Apple. First gen they only do it in silver, the next one they say black is the newest innovation.

So you’re asking Apple to quadruple the battery life in the Ultra, not going to happen.
Yeah, I’m not getting an AW Ultra. I’m far more likely to spend more and get the Epix 2 Pro and double the battery life from 2 weeks to 4 weeks. I’ll come back to an AW when they get to at least 2 weeks of battery life, sometime in the next 10 years, maybe.

There's a reason AW battery life sucks. It has a nice display, doing all the background stuff, smooth animations and all the computing stuff.

Yeah Garmin might have weeks or battery, but it stutters and sluggish a lot when we interacting with it. Feels too rigid, and keeping a ton of "low power modes" just to preserve some battery. Overall, I think those non Apple smartwatches feel like Casio digital watches with built in maps and some limited graphics.

I agree. My Ultra has had a few small chips (the first one really hurt!) on the top part of the casing and at first it is really visible. It almost completely fades over time as the (I think) oxidation of the scratched surface means that the natural titanium look will return. It may not look horrible on the black Ultra, but it is going to be more noticeable.

Edit: wording.

It's going to look terrible in a short period of time, especially that chamfered edge.

Can we please get rid of the silly giant orange button? It doesn't go with anything...
That button is literally one of the few reasons that I'm not selling the Ultra to go back to S8. Works perfect for quickly starting activities and precision start while swimming, which are my primary use cases for the AWU.

nonsense, it goes GREAT with an orange band, an orange t-shirt and a whole lot more ...
… orange shoes, orange hair, orange hat, orange sunglasses, orange nails, orange pants, an orange …

“Orange” now sounds weird when I say it. The word is now ruined for me.

Orange you glad I didn’t say, “banana”?

They may have been complaining about the color. I never understood the orange color except as a style accent. I never look at the buttons on my watch (AW5) anyway. I don't care what color they are. Actually, I'm glad Apple had to get rid of the solid red Digi crown cap to make space for the ECG electrode. Serendipity.

We can have a commission on the "oranges" of the question. ;)

Would love to buy one of these but since I take a size 5 solo loop it is never going to happen.

Lovely! Just exactly what I needed. Instant buy!!!

I don't care if I already have Apple Watch Ultra. I'm upgrading to this one!

Update! I just checked my Apple Watch Ultra battery health and still at 100% 🔋 💪. Yup! Still upgrading this year!

TIL WatchOS has a battery health function, mine wasn't quite where I wanted it.

I’m nearly ready to replace my series 4 and, now I work in a warehouse I’ve been looking at the Ultra. This black v2 might just come at the right time for me.

Nope just got my AW Ultra this spring and I like current color with my third party matching titanium band

Best Apple watch to date, my opinion. I chose not to hook mine to cellular, but only Bluetooth from iPhone. Have deleted every single app which it will allow. I have no use for those anyway. I try to keep on Low Power mode, but need to check regular. Seems like it wants to revert back to normal mode there. I have all sounds off and only Haptic for phone calls and texts. That is all I want from it. My airplane world reaches me either of those 2 ways. So with all those other amazing features disabled and deleted, I have great battery life. Have not tested to confirm, but am certain would get 3-4 days battery life. I am excited to get the next version which is rumored to be a bit larger.

I don’t want anything over the front of my phone. I currently use Apple’s Black Leather Case, and I’ve never had a scratch on any of my iPhones. I do tend to baby them however, so your use case may differ (pun intended)… 😉
I started with bare front cases but scratched my screen a few times. Now my baby is deeply swaddled in rubber. :)
