I’ve been on the fence about buying a Garmin, but my problem is is that the Apple Watch does so much more, and the Garmin are just too expensive. With the Apple Watch ultras advancements I am more inclined for the ultra so that way I will have a single device on my wrist instead of multiple watches. If I was off the grid for longer periods of time, that would change my decision because of the battery life.
I have been a long time AW owner and recently purchased Garmin's Fenix 7X. I used it for three weeks and returned it. I did enjoy the size, the look, battery life, however I did not like the lack of smart features and lack of integration with iphone. I am glad I did the return because the Ultra was announced a week later :)

What were the top smart features you missed from AW?

(I was using AW S0-S4 and then jumped to Fenix 6X that I am still using. Now contemplating on getting back to AW with the Ultra)

You only ordered it last night right?

Either way you must have been right on the cusp of shipment allotment and got pushed... hopefully it swings back for you to the week sooner! Good luck!

No I ordered it last Thursday morning, the day after the announcement. Not a big dieal, I just have to wait a few more days. I may try some of the local places and see if they have any on launch day.

Thank you.

After I ordered AWU - then I went and got my Garmin Fenix 3 out of storage just to be sure. I thought, I use to LOVE this watch and used it for 2 years every day before switching to AW. Let me try it again for a week or so hiking etc...

I can't. I gave up after like 8 hours lol

I am so used to having cellular connection.
I am so used to having Apple Music streaming.
I am so used to easily loading my off-line music onto watch.
I am so used to Siri reading my messages out to me and being able to reply hands free while climbing.
I am so used to being able to take calls when I leave my phone at home (go to gym)

And other conveniences...

It's just the AW battery life that hurts me... I did an 18 hour Everest climb with the Garmin and it was great...

Still - Apple has me trapped in their (I think great) ecosystem!

I just saw my first hint that my Ultra ordered through Verizon will arrive on the 23rd, the date promised. Although I ordered on the 9th, up until now, there has been no indication of my order within my online account. Now I have a pending order. If I am remembering correctly, this means that shipping is right around the corner.

I’m in the 9/29-10/6 group and curious what others experienced from other launches. when did they see delivery times improve, the day of the launch, before launch or combo? Just not a patient person :) I’ll be checking local apple stores as well on the 23rd…. What time do they typically allow you to check stock and reserve? Thanks

If the ultras are coming from China, we should see the 9/23 orders pop up in ups MyChoice (for US) and go preparing to ship over the weekend. The orders in the later windows might start seeing their dates pushed up during the course of next week.

In my experience, any non-Launch day order I have had with Apple has ended up with a delivery that date was was in a window that was 5 days sooner. So I think there’s a good chance that a 9/29-10/6 window is actually delivered in the 9/24-10/1 range.

But every product is different.

I'm crossing my fingers my date moves up from Oct 24-31, probably will move up a few days but nothing crazy probably, mainly because i got the Trail Loop and it seems like most everyone with the trail loop got some sort of delayed shipping

My gut tells me they are pre-staged and will come from the US.

I guess it depends whether they're doing the usual bulk ship to local logistics firm (syncreon in the UK) before local shipping, or whether they'll come straight from china (I've always had UPS / DHL for UK)

After waffeling back and forth over upgrading my SS S6 to the Ultra, I bit the bullet and ordered one today. I'm hoping the ship date moves up from 10/14-10/21 to early October. I'm going on a 10 day vacation at the end of Oct, and having the extra battery life sold me. I took my S6 off the charger at 7am and it's already down to 73%.
