No, that’s right they won’t. If the watch still works, it’s classed as cosmetic which means no replacement. My comment for direct replacement was in reference to what they do when they do honour AC+

I predict there will be a lot more ‘accidental’ rear casing breaks for the Ultra compared to previous watches 🙊

But….if your watch has cosmetic wear, and is then accidentally run over by a car they will replace it….and they aren’t going to refuse replacement because you sanded off the orange button.

I’m not sure what you’re trying to say? What you’ve posted says what I’m saying.

AC+ covers accidental damage but not cosmetic damage that doesn’t impact the function of the watch. What am I missing?
No nothing, just posting it that's all :)

What did you do to remove the scratches? The Scotch Brite method? Thought that would only work on brushed titanium…

For my S7 TI I used 8000 grit cloth around a pen, and then a microfiber towel and buffing compound to polish it back up. This was for a tiny blemish from some metal buttons on one of my shirts, and I was being overly picky - you could hardly see it before I “fixed” it.

If the bezel ring edge on the ultra gets some surface wear, and I think it will, wrapping very fin grit cloth or paper around a pen or pencil would give you that fine edge to polish it out if you wanted and never touch the glass.

I think you may be right. Waiting for my first one and see how my OCD side gets over it 😅. I may bang it against something intentionally to see how it goes 😂🤪
😂 you know what I have the same feeling , I can’t wait for the scratch to appear , I might just do it myself really .

There were scratches in these two places, but I removed them in 2 minutes! I couldn't believe it!!
I am in the assumption that titanium will scratch easily but will not displace the metal , meaning it will not gouge it. I am happy to be corrected otherwise. If using a kitchen utensil scourer can remove the scratches out , then I am definitely keeping my ultra!

See this is why I prefer buying fender, custom shop, relic guitars….

You pay extra to get them beat up at the factory, and if you add a few more days yourself, I’m pretty sure they just increase in value from there!

Not even the first scratch worries me. After all an Apple Watch is a tool with a limited usable life span (yes you know what I mean, we all had a few Apple Watches already of the last years).
That doesn't mean that we shouldn't take care of our tools and enjoy how they look, however (which I'm sure you know what I mean, as well)...

Taking care of tools: yes! Enjoying how they look: no! Enjoying how well my tools work and serve me well: YES!!

This has been my experience with the S6 SS and S6 Ti.

It’s part of the nature of titanium. Titanium is a premium material, but it is less scratch resistant (though the scratched really do blend in.) Titanium is extremely strong, stronger than the steel models actually. Don’t mistake surface scratches with structural weakness.

All the people ranting and raving in this thread (not you, OP) ranting and raving about durability have no idea what they’re talking about. Titanium is used for many of the toughest watches in the world.

Yes, a more scratch resistant, lighter version of titanium exists but it’s actually an alloy with other metals; it’s also extremely expensive to produce and machine. Grand Seiko uses it on several watches [EDIT: In other words, watches that cost 10x the price of the Apple Watch Ultra]; it’s almost like a lightweight white gold, in practice. It would be less fit for purpose.

Please don‘t scour or sand your watches to ‘remove the scratches’… 🤦🏽‍♂️ just let them blend into the titanium naturally.

Thank you for your anecdotal evidence.

It’s only been grey & rainy here the past few days. Is the sky actually blue? I don’t think so.
I have worn the SB AW on my wrist for the last 5 years and it is the only watch I have ever owned to not have a scratch within the first few weeks of ownership.

This will be the last time I ask...

or was the chunk more like a tiny winy ickle sctratch ;)

Love it. A big chunk to an OCD person is a tiny scratch to a utilitarian!

I've tried to explain the difference between durability & scratch resistance for a few pages before I realized I was wasting my time. A few posters here just seem content existing in their mini echo chamber. In their world, feelings negate facts & any actual evidence is considered meaningless.

It's still slightly mind boggling how a lot of people really have absolutely no clue what they're talking about half the time, but their pride/ego won't allow them to consider any possibilities that stray outside of their preconceived notions.

Amazing that their fear of scratches, which they perceive as a structural issue, is leading them to literally sanding down the metal.
